Children of Korlis seems like a much better combo enabler for this card rather than Transcendence, because with Transcendence you have a cut-off point, whereas with Children, you can go further more reliably, I like this for Legacy.
Transcendence is a nice combo for EDH, but for a competitive format, I like Children more.
Since you still can't pay life you don't have, Children also has a cut-off point unless you have an additional combo to recur it arbitrarily. For example, if you have Treasonous Ogre, Children of Korlis, and 20 life, you can add 12 red mana to your mana pool. Transcendence is an infinite combo (that will cause you to lose the game if you don't have an instant-speed game winner (which you do if you're using that combo)), Children of Korlis is a way to do something twice. Useful, but a long way short of infinite.
Yeah, Notice I said "Legacy" not "EDH"
Transcendence is good in EDH, where a 6 mana Enchantment that does nothing when it hits is "okay"
In Legacy, that 12 Mana on Turn 3-4 could win you the game...
But surely 6 mana is also pretty strong. I just don't see why you need "combo enablers" if you're not going infinite; Children is an off colour extra card that you "need" for a marginal benefit over the Ogre by himself.
Ok, 6 mana, name a card that in Red by itself will win you the game for 6 mana by itself...
Exactly, When you run two colors you give yourself more options.
Children is also very good against a few certain other matchups, as well as a combo enabler.
I could see a pretty powerful Dega deck come out running this and Children.
If you're not dedicated to Children you can run a second colour that doesn't have to be white. Nothing says that because you don't have Children you must be monored. I'm not saying don't run if it you're in white, I'm just not seeing how it's necessary in any way.
Because it gets you more than 6 Red mana, That's the main reason you'd run it, are you suddenly telling Griselbrand players that Children is bad because it refills their life totals so they can draw more cards?

I'm saying Griselbrand is still good without Children and so is this card.

I get what you're saying, but Children just makes this card more appealing to competitive players who have a johnny mindset, what's more fun than getting 6 red Mana? Getting 12 Red mana to go combo-tastic on their opponent with.

Not the most relevant thing, but transcendence is a pretty good example of it not being valid to say any card is good in EDH. Transcendence just kills you half the game, and trying to abuse it gets you killed. It's also really easy to kill anyone with it out. I would never touch that card in EDH. Never; not even for the sake of comboing.

Check out the thread for my cube if you have the time, and tell me how terrible it is.
Generals meant to be drafted first in a single pack of 6 cards.
And here is the actual cube, meant to be drafted in 4 regular sized packs. (60 card decks)

Did some epic plays off of following up a sneak attack with him. Sneak attack in ogre, pay 3 life rune scarred demon, find kikijiki, pay 3 life, play kiki, copy runescarred, search conscripts, pay 3 life, play conscripts, win.
Another fun play was similiar, but went, ogre, urabrask, inferno titan, rakdos, mulldrifter, a a signet, casting marchesa from command zone, and swinging
