There are multitude of multiplayer circles that just always attack the player with the highest life total. This lady is perfectly designed for those circles.
Turn 1 & 2: Sacrifice outlet and mana fixing and/or card draw
(Say Viscera Seer and Prophetic Prism)
Turn 3: Geralf's Messenger
Turn 4: Marchesa, the Black Rose
Once she resolves, barring any tampering by your opponents, you instantly win. No further mana or cards necessary. Nice.

Idunno, your friends refusing to play with you anymore is kinda a loss... I mean, that is why your cards are no longer necessary right? ;-p I suppose such things would be fine if it was remotely reasonable in legacy, in EDH though, they come with a serious stigma where I'm from. That said, I think it may be time to retool my tribal wizards deck and move it from Damia to Marchesa. Won't be quite as strong as the dedicated Marchesa deck could be perhaps. It will be nice to have a general that supports the strategy better though.
I've been wanting to build a Grixis Specter tribal Commander deck for quite some time now. Crosis, the Purger was the original commander, but this one looks like a better fit.
I love playing grixis. My Jeleva EDH lacks just Past in Flames and Yawgmoth's Will to be "complete" for me, even thou I lack bribery and other expensive stuff I really enjoy it. I am finish collecting cards for my Nekusar EDH and here comes this lady!
Synergy with stealing effects and sac outlets, works bonkers with her husband Mikeaus and semingly supports the same combos he does but a bit worse. The huge plus is that she is grixis cuz mikeaus as a mono colored commander just fails to some other like Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief. She's a must have for me. Or atm, Brago the new parley Lady and Magister or Worth both are. I am just looking now for new Oloro-colored general so I can put Magister of Worth into play, and then just force board whipes with Gather Specimens or other sort of nastyness
Unleash and undying work with a sac outlet but the next end step piece prevents an all out combo right? I just do not think the Geralf combo works. Can anyone confirm or explain this?
I have neither the skill to correctly and accurately analyze this set in the context of current and future formats after 12 hours of exposure, nor the hubris to delude myself into believing that I do.

Not infinite, returns at the end of turn, meaning you can hit one person for 4 life a turn and scry 1 twice a turn. still not bad, but you will make a lot of enemies really fast without killing everyone lol.

This may end up creating some edh tribal brews too. Markhov blademaster is a clock. Bittrtblosom works nicely here as well after a few turns having a 5/5 4/4 3/3 2/2 1/1 for 1B seems good also the life loss is good here.
She is actually really dirty in EDH where the card pool of +1/+1 counter giving abilities is at its peak. In draft, I can see her as meh and do nothing once you are ahead.
You can also do basically the same thing with Flayer of the Hatebound (infinite 4/5 damage procs, depending on if it's coming back as undying or not) and Geralf's Messenger (infinite mill). Also, I'm betting we'll be able to find a bunch of other things that are absuable via Mikaeus v2. She definitely seems like an incredibly silly combo general.
Welp... Thraximundar just got replaced as my second UBR general.
I'm sorry Thraxi, but you've been demoted.
Seriously, though. She makes Thraximundar better. The aforementioned combo with Undying also makes her appealing.
Also, don't worry about having the most life with her out. If your playing UBR, you'll drop your own life total a bit before you get to swing. Then she enables you to take your foes down a notch. By the time you've made yourself the highest-life-totaled player, she will have put a few counters on your creatures and created an optimal board position for you...
Oh, and if someone gets antsy and tries a board wipe... They just rang their own death knell.

So, question. Wouldn't her enter the battlefield trigger be nulled by graveyard hate? Say a creature with a +1/+1 counter on it dies, and WOULD return to the battlefield, but then gets somehow exiled from your graveyard, it wouldn't still come back would it?
She reminds me somewhat of Edric in that she encourages evasive creatures but unlike the spy master, her's grow bigger while his draw cards. If you could include them in the same deck that would be awesome, unfortunately that does not seem the case.
Give her some Coastal Piracys and build her like you would Edric and you have a fearsome deck.

The Dethrone mechanic is pretty bland,
but what she does with it is truly impressive.
Also- why is the rarity on these uneven?
BLAND?!??!?!
This is one of the most flavourful mechanics ever. Also, triggers on attack, so combat math is super fun with it.

Dethrone is a pretty interesting mechanic, while I understand having the most life doesn't mean you are winning, it definitely helps, and this encourages not beating up the weakest player. I imagine the mechanic will be mainly in black because if there's one colour that doesn't want another to be superior, it's this one, as well as red because f*** the police!
I really like what I'm seeing about this set, the cards are both unique and powerful. I can't wait for it to come out so I can draft it and forget about Theros!
