She's still better than any of the ally-colored "minor" gods. Stop complaining, she's awesome for commander, and a nice SB option at the very least for standard dredge.
Are we allowed to complain if we don't play Commander or Standard?
Seriously, though. She's disappointing. Why can't you get the token every time?
Would she have been too good if you got the snake tokens no matter whose graveyard it was? I'm also wondering if her rules text was more in line with Scavenging Ooze, would that make her too powerful? Scavenging Ooze doesn't see too much play in Standard and I doubt pushing a 2 color god would break the format.
BG: Exile target card from a graveyard. If it was a creature card, put a 1/1 black and green snake enchantment creature token with deathtouch onto the battlefield.
Ok. I have a LEGITIMATE challenge. Find a WBG deck that makes use of this card in association with the Orzhov God. Thoughts?

I fear I won't have much time to play Magic these days.
I get to watch worlds develop around me.
I get to watch great leaders, terrible oppressors, and trend setters rise and fall.
Limited, Standard, Modern, everything is a different playing field I feel I can observe, but will not actually touch.
I look forward to the stories I will hear.
And more so to the ones I will watch unfold first hand.
Isn't the unknown exciting?
Thank god they made it so the owner of the card you exile gets the snake. I can't imagine how badly paying 2 mana for a situational Sedge Scorpion would've just broken standard in half.
Do you really think that using a card for a 1/1 deathtouch is equivalent to not using a card for a 1/1 deathtouch?
I don't think the steps you need to go through to get a 1/1 deathtoucher from Pharika are all that much better.
The steps of having 2 mana and a creature in your graveyard? 1/1 Deathtouchers are easy to turn into cards. Look at Baleful Strix compared to Tidehollow Strix or Elvish Visionary, 2 mana for a divination is good. This isn't completely bonkers, but it seems that people don't understand the difference that deathtouch makes.
I really need to remind myself to come back to this thread 2 months from now, because the sheer number of people thinking this is a bad card is hilarious. 3cmc is already outstanding. The utility of making instant speed DT blockers is outstanding. The ability to gain further value from dead dudes is amazing. Add to the fact that black and green currently have some of the best devotion enablers (BTE, Jarad, Nightveil, Tusker, etc.), and you have a legitimate beater that also gives you some sweeper recovery or an oustanding Jarad Fling target.
I can't believe people are actually complaining that the controller of the graveyard gets the token. Pharika is a house.
Posts like these make me really believe that half the people who post on here don't think about how a card matches up against cards already dominating the format or don't play any real standard. Thats fine if you don't play standard, but people who come on here acting like they know anything and try to sound smart are just kind of being fools to themselves.
We live in a format dominated by evasive creatures. Cards like this are not good when your going to be up against a bunch of flyers or things clogging the board up like Elspeth or Master of Waves.
I can believe why people think this sucks since the aggro decks trying to turn this on have to play a bunch of terrible cards that take a knee to many other format defining cards and the decks trying to use its activated ability probably don't want to.
This is a BG version of Heliod, and Heliod sucks, therefor, this is unplayable.
Dredge could sideboard this vs aggro. Otherwise, there is a certain ooze that is much much better.

She really isn't even that great for EDH. There are other ways of destroying your opponents graveyard that don't involve them getting free Deathtouchers. And I wouldn't even think of using the ability on my own graveyard. Exile precious graveyard resources for a 1/1? No thanks.
Never heard of political cards? All of the gods are targeted at a different section of the player base.
That is a valid point. That said, giving other players weapons is not something that comes up in my playgroup very often. I'd be more interested in using this card to set up death effects. It would be amusing to follow the activations up with something like Massacre Wurm.

So I think this is a good card that will definitely see play (especially in EDH, and probably in standard), however I'm also very disappointed that you can't make snakes for yourself from other player's graveyards (though I can see why - they would have had to make the activated ability cost more in that case), and find it weird that it's the only minor god with an activated instead of a triggered ability.
I'm also kind of disappointed you can't combo it with scavenge to make a bigger snake off of your one card in graveyard.

Who gives a rats ass about Commander?
Commander this, Commander that. Some people don't care and will not care. Like me.
This card is Standard unplayable, it needs mana to do anything. And tons of standard players had waited for her and wished for her to be good.
So maybe it's you who should stop going on about Commander and start complaining

This card is Limited annoying. It's a 5/5 indestructible and it's ability doesn't match the story Wizards has been building up.
So maybe you could stop going on about money formats, and enjoy the damn game?

"I don't want to gamble my cards" this, "Don't make me bet them that" Some people don't want to play the game by the old rules.
This card doesn't exist in my world of Magic. Enchantment creature? What the hell is this Yugioh?
So maybe you should stop going on about "No mana burn" and "New World Order" and enjoy the game the way Jesus meant it to be played?

But seriously, she is pretty terrible, especially with Scooze still in the format.
This is the secret EDH card of the set but no one will notice because they think EDH is just for things with high CMC.
Yeah, good call. Her templating lets you play politics as well as manage graveyards. "You're being attacked? Have a deathtouching blocker." Multiplayer is a different beast like that.
Both of your comments completely reversed my initial knee-jerk reaction that this was a trainwreck of bad design paired with bad development.
Now that I can see it, this card's purpose as a political multiplayer card is totally obvious. Kinda cool.
This card is the worst piece of garbage I've ever seen. I mean, seriously, even Karametra is better since you can make some EDH play out of her, but not Pharika. BG is such a great color combination and they make this... this... abomination. The only reasonable way to play this card in constructed is using it as a beatstick, but that won't happen since you will depend a lot on having creatures alive, and when they kill everything you have... you will be left with miserable 1/1 snakes that don't do jack for you besides blocking "well".
So, I suppose the Gods will be ordered :
Keranos (good general, possibly playable in many decks) > Athreos (needs a shell, but can work nicely) > Iroas (don't think he will stick, but I guess he stands for RW beatdown decently) > black abyss of eternal doom > Kruphix (this sucks so much) > blackest abyss of a much more eternal doom > Pharika.

Would you like to read Commander stories? Check my latest stories, coming from Lorwyn and Innistrad: Ghoulcaller Gisa and Doran, The Siege Tower! If you like my writing, ask me to write something for your commander as well!
if only brand or homeward path were in a format to play with her... would negate the 'owner' factor and make for some really interesting combat sequences.
That doesn't work anymore, tokens belong to the people whose control they were created under.
The tokens don't have a CMC, they do absolutely nothing for devotion.
OT: Eh, another card I don't have to feel bad about not buying, I call that win-win. Although I kinda wish it WAS good so it'd drive down the price of the cards I REALLY want a little bit...

Since when has Necrogenesis had the ability to turn into a 5/5 creature, been indestructible, and produced deathtouch tokens?
