So, what happens if I have 2 creatures, I choose one to copy and then target the other and then the creature I chose to copy gets killed? Does the 2nd creature become the copy or does the spell just do nothing?
First time I read through this I glazed over the "you control" part. For a moment there I thought it was a one-sided near-boardwipe if opp had a legend out. Still a nasty card nevertheless, especially with Battlefield Thaumaturge.
I would have been a lot more excited about this card if it was Polymorph with Strive. Seriously, could you imagine how much fun that would be? You could make polymorph decks AND warp world decks with it! Especially if its Strive cost was one colorless. Thurmatage would have been so happy.

so if i am that player do i get to sleep with his girlfriend ?
I think I understand the core mechanics, but I'm struggling to work out what exactly is copied. Specifically, if I copy a creature with auras or counters. What I've read so far suggests that counters are not copied, but what about enchantments, auras or other effects?
I'm guessing I can't use this to obtain two copies of the same legendary creature.
Any help would be appreciated, I've struggled to find a clear explanation.
You basically copy the card, Enchantments and/or counters are not copyed.
About legendaries : you can copy them , but then if a player controls more than one legendary permanent with the sae name, that player chooses one and sacrifices the rest
