Extra flavor points if you win with Hellkite Tyrant with gold tokens made from Macar and Gild!!!
Trying to find a way to make that work. It is actually kind of annoying. WAIT! Him + Tyrant + Paradise Mantle + Minamo, School at Water's Edge. HAHA! MY JOHNNY SIDE HAS TRIUMPHED!
edit: or if you want strictly 2 color Thousand Year Elixir works too.
is he good in standard? NO. like, really, not at all. in limited, he'll destroy. in EDH, he's fun and flavorful enough to be played.
And in block constructed, he might end up a role-player in some MB list. that's, honestly, as far as King Midas will go.
WHICH WILL NOT STOP ME BUILDING MONO BLACK EDH WITH HIM AS THE GENERAL, BECAUSE HE'S WICKED COOL.
All of the rules allow for your general to be moved to the command zone when he gets put into a place that would be tough to get him back from, GY, Exile, etc. I am sure one day the rules will change and include tuck effects.
Totally making a deck around Macar, Paradise Mantle, Thousand Year Elixir, Hellkite Tyrant, Forbidden Orchard and maybe the Hunted cycle guys, and calling the deck "Smaug the Stupendous" Give them guys, then on the combo turn turn them all into gold and win with Tyrants ability on your upkeep. Winning with dragons and gold. FLAVOR WIN!
Does anyone know if this will use the same tokens from BNG for Gild, or will we get new gold tokens for this in JOU?
Most times that a card from a later set in a block uses tokens previously used in a block they've just used the same ones. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't here.

That does the trick. And to think here I was struggling to work out something with Krark-Clan Ironworks.
