Awkward interaction with your Centaurs and Elspeth. On one hand it's exactly what I'm looking for in making Call of the Conclave (and now maybe Fated Intervention) get past the soldier tokens; on the other hand now they can all be minused.
Odds are we're going to be seeing more centaurs in the next block, given it's looking to be mongolian themed.
Yes, because Mongolian lore is famous for its Centaurs.

Watch your thoughts, for they become words.
Watch your words, for they become actions.
Watch your actions, for they become habits.
Watch your habits, for they become character.
Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.
I support any and all new tribal lords! Even if I don't like centaurs much! I hope one day I'll get my Squirrel and Wolf lords.
Forgetting about this guy or does it have to be a squirrel? More on topic, mediocre rare tho to powerful at uncommon? what with merrow reejerey at uncommon maybe not...
Squirrels and other whimsical tribes should stick with the casual appeal. I think a cost-effective squirrel lord would make squirrels less entertaining.
I've had suspicion for a while that the next block is going to be tribal. I'd love to see Minotaurs and Centaurs make a real showing in the next block.
I think the point about Mongolia is how cavalry/horse-oriented the Khanate's culture was. Considering that Scythian cavalry may have been the inspiration for Hellenic centaurs...It may be a tenuous connection, but at least it's there. (Come to think of it, what ARE well-known Mongol mythical creatures?)
Meanwhile, I'm surprised no one's thinking of a casual deck that dips into Odyssey block. Is non-Commander casual somehow invisible to most people? I honestly wouldn't call tournaments the be-all and end-all of Magic...
EDIT: Looks like wolves are the foremost creature in Turkic legend. I am NOT expecting werewolves, though. Probably just plain Wolf type for something, in the same way leonin are the Cat type and loxodon are the Elephant type.
splash for fanatic of xenagos plus xenagod because who doesn't want to drop a centaur and make him a swinging beast. I totally want naya midrange centaurs to happen.

The only mythical creature that I can think of that Mongolia may have is the dragon since it shares a border with China. That's it. I know nothing about Mongolia outside of Genghis Khan.
EDIT: It looks like dragons were/are incredibly important to the Mongols. Wolves, as was mentioned above are also important along with deer, falcons, and horses.
If we're talking in a standard environment, I'd rather just run Mana Confluence and some shocks. No reason to force in bad (EDIT: for constructed) inspired cards or mediocre one drops. You could just run mana dorks in the one drop slot instead, and that would work out just fine
For lords---we need a Wurm lord! From Craw Wurm to Worldspine theres been like 70, many of whom are iconic rares/mythics, but no lord.

that's not what happened at all. kamahl stabbed phage, akroma, and some old lady and they became korona. then korona got stabbed by her "prophets" and kamahl got drunk with a mutant centaur

Its centaur tribal. Just like Minotaur tribal and slivers, it's FNM funsies deck, not a ptq competitive netdeck with a $300 mana base.
I'm not really clear on why a) people are convinced that the next block is Mongolian-themed based on two POSSIBLE set names, and b) why we're discussing how Mongolian mythology relates to centaurs, since we know it's a bottom-up block. Even if it is Mongolian-themed, it'll be as Mongolia as Ravnica is Prague--that is to say, where it makes for more interesting design, and not anywhere else. We won't be bound to anyone's mythology for the next block.

This is why I'm both incredibly excited yet afraid to be excited at the same time about the next block - the idea of a Mongol themed block is really really apealing and offers a lot of flavor. A card representation of Genghis Khan sitting in a ruined and bloodstained mosque saying "If you had not comitted great sins, God would not have sent a punishment like me upon you” as the population cowers has got to be perfect source material for some sort of card. But at the same time, just because the names seem horse/cavalry themed doesn't really confirm anything. So I could be getting excited for nothing.

Might not be exactly what you want, but...

I will always firmly stand by the belief that Magic is a game first and a collectable second.
Elspeth is such a ridiculous finisher.
Ummm... Immerwolf?

As for this Pheres-Band Warchief Powerful in Limited, so ya he is rare.

That's what I was thinking. Absolutely a fun pairing in casual.
Courser of Kruphix and Fanatic of Xenagos round out the Centaur three drops. I'll have to convince someone to make a Minotaur deck to fight it.

I have a Minotaur deck that plays fairly well. We can arrange this lol

This was my first thought. a 3/3 Muta that doesn't tap. How are people missing this fact?
The only net decking I do involves the Home Depot

[/card] Might give an excuse to use Chronicler of Heroes
OK Technically there is a 1 drop, but it's an ability: Centaur's Herald Vitu-Ghazi Guildmage also makes centaur tokens.
It's a bit of a weak tribe atm but maybe we'll see some good ones added in. Too bad there wasn't a reprint of Burning-Tree Shaman
