Wow, now that's a card. Pyrostatic Pillar on a stick, a respectable 2/2 for RR stick.
It's a potent sideboard card in older formats at the very least and has a lot of potential in standard burn too (burn often doesn't care if it takes damage as long as the opponent is taking more damage).
I don't see why this would be that amazing of a card. In all formats, there is too much creature removal and not enough enchantment removal in main decks and sideboards. Pyrostatic pillar is far better because it is much harder to get rid of.
Also, for those salivating at this in Legacy, can you all give me a good reason why I would want a RR 2/2 creature over a Chalice of the Void for 1? Why make them take a little damage to do their actions over simply shutting their actions down?
Modern, maybe, but I don't see this having a place in Legacy.
Why would a burn deck want to play a Chalice of the Void on 1? What cards are being played in sideboard cards from Legacy combo decks that can deal with a creature but can't deal with an enchantment?
Legacy burn is a fringe deck at best. At best. In Q4 2013 it had 0 top16 finishes. I don't remember seeing it in Q1 2014, though I could be wrong. So if this makes people all excited, that means that they think that this card specifically is going to make it a great deck? I doubt it.
To question #2, here is a list of legacy cards in mainboards and sideboards. Submerge. Jitte. Swords to Plowshares. Pyroclasm. Supreme Verdict. Disfigure. Among others...

Burn decks always show up on occasion so it's always important to remember it.
Submerge - LOL
Jitte - What combo deck is running Jitte?
Swords - What combo deck is running Swords?
Pyroclasm - Is a combo deck really gonna side in Pyroclasm against a burn deck?
Supreme Verdict - What combo deck is running this?
Disfigure - Only card I could possible see answering my question.

I guess I am answering your question in a different way -- I don't see a new sideboard card for a fringe deck as something to be excited about. My point still stands. Outside of a this being a sideboard card in a legacy burn deck, I think Chalice of the Void for 1 is stronger than this guy.
I just don't see excitement over such a narrow card.
Okay, I'm obviously a stupid noob with no sense of what a good card looks like and I obviously live in Magic Christmasland, but how dos this looks for modern/whatever:
How does this work w/ spells/permanants that reduce casting cost? If a card is reduced, does the reduction count towards the combined casting cost?
The key here is CMC. The cost printed on the top right corner of cards.
Compare Mizzium Mortars and Blasphemous Act. Mizzium will trigger Eidolon regardless of you paying the Overload cost because its CMC is always two while Act will not trigger Eidolon even if there are eight creatures on the battlefield because its CMC is always nine.
Fuse is interesting in that fusing Turn//Burn will actually make its CMC 3UR thus not triggering Eidolon.
I will definitely test it in my standard rdw. Ya I take damage too but in standard rdw right now I always have tons of life until the moment I lose. Its very common for me to have 16 life and them 4 but they stabilize and I'm banking on top decking a couple of burn spells or maybe a Fanatic of Mogis. If everthing they are playing early hurts though then suddenly I'm in much better shape as the last few damage come from this. The question is what to replace.
I see it in the board where I have Young Pyromancer now. It could replace Ash Zealot... but the haste is huge on turn 2. It could work if it was r1 as you could combo burning tree into it...
I dunno though, I think I want it against everything except rg monsters and the mirror when I'm on the draw. Maybe Ash Zealot goes to the board and I maindeck this...
Awww, I read it wrong so i thought this was Guttersnipe 2.0... but it's like, ANTI-Guttersnipe, AND it even HOSES Burn decks!
>cries
I'm kinda sad, but it's still very VERY good. Honestly kinda strange how it's costed. Well, i guess it's clear that he either goes in midrange and DOESN'T pop out turn 2-3. His place seems to be in moderncy and eternal formats, and i don't know too much about it, but i DO know enough to say that he should make an impact. Poor Bitterblossom and Wild Nacatl, you just got unbanneD!
Am I the only one that thinks this is good, even competitive for eternal formats? Have you looked at the average cmc for delver and the like? Even if they instantly bolt or path it, you still get a 1 for 1 and 2 damage at the very least. This could easily be played, especially on mtgo where RDW is always a thing.
This is a solid card for the eternal formats as it hates hard on Storm, kind of a red version of Thalia, Guardian of Thraben. As for Standard, it may see action in some sideboards but I feel that RDW or Boros Burn would almost always rather play Ash Zealot. What would be interesting is to see if this gets side or even mainboard play in RG Monsters builds. The symmetry is broken in their favor, and this guy can put a lot of pressure on an opponent, especially when they have to prioritize removal of your other threats over him. I feel like it could be a sneaky bit of tech, especially with everyone looking at an RR card and thinking, "RDW!". Plus, he provides two devotion towards XenaGod builds...
Considering R/w Burn, this is stupidly good for whoever is on the play in the mirror.
Also a massive kick in Monoblue's balls (way bigger than in White Weenies', as they generally some sort of lifelink to side in).
As a Blue Devotion player, I'd be pretty happy if I saw this from a red player since they will be killing themselves if they plan on racing me. Red still can't beat Master of Waves or Thassa reliably anyway not to mention Domestication will be grabbing their creatures after SB to ruin whatever clock/devotion they were planning on winning with after the Eidolon is played. White Weenies is definitely more concerned with this card than Blue Devotion is
The symmetrical effect definitely hurts its chances to be played in standard. Modern and Legacy will probably want it more if at all.

You do not want to play this against Delver. They will outrace you if they want to or just remove it. You are giving them a choice of how to deal with it, and they are well suited to do either depending on their situation.
It almost seems like it could be played WITH delver, not against it. Delver is all about racing anyhow. Although i think young pyromancer is way, way better playing with delver. Definitely likes to be in an aether vial deck though.

Evoke Ingot Chewer
Madness Reckless Wurm
Hybrid Flame Javelin
Creature Craft Blasphemous Act
Miracle Thunderous Wrath
Trap: Runeflare Trap
Casting without paying mana cost: Chandra, Pyromaster & Oracle of Bones
And my personal favorite card so far with this: Suspend Pardic Dragon
p.s. probably sweet in a deck with Standstill.
T1: Land + Goblin Guide or Vexing Devil or Lightning Bolt
T2: Land + Same as the above but two.
T3: Land + Seething Song + This Guy + Sulfuric Vortex. Ohmygawdlookattheclock.
Fish the rest of the game for miracled-up Thunderous Wrath or something.

If you have a budget, you shouldn't play magic competitively

enchanting Witchstalker with Raised by Wolves
as a red deck wins I cant use it either. surely its meant to be a 2 drop for red green monsters

It will probably be more suited for Red Devotion or red sligh if it sees play in standard.
It will be good in standard, but there is competition in the 2drops for red and it's meh against too much of the field.
I think at best for the current meta, it's a SB card against U-Devotion and Wx-Aggro. Using it for Mono Red mirrors is just a Double Edged sword.
Might see a fair amount of sideboard play in other formats besides standard.
I haven't evaluated it enough to know if it's maindeckable in Modern or Leg
