They did a nice job in Kamigawa and Odyssey block of casting the villain in white, no problems there either.
My original post wasn't as much about "white characters being evil" as "white characters being all about murder." I agree that white, probably the most conservative color, is in-character in attempting to restore the status quo.
You know what they say: "It's not murder if it's an enchantment."
After reading the book I feel like we're setting up for some kind of big twist here. Maybe Elspeth really does kill Heliod. He basically did the same thing to her that all those demons did to Liliana.
On the other hand xenagos is pretty clearly an evil, destructive jerk. So who knows *shrug.*
We already have it in Return to Ravnica and it should go when Ravnica rotates out!
Incidentally、the Guide says this about the clay masks for the newly dead:
“Such masks are broken into shards called ostraka and used as barter in the Underworld.”
According to that ever–reliable、peer–reviewed Wiki:
An ostracon (Greek: ὄστρακον ostrakon, plural ὄστρακα ostraka) is a piece of pottery (or stone), usually broken off from a vase or other earthenware vessel. In archaeology, ostraca may contain scratched-in words or other forms of writing which may give clues as to the time when the piece was in use.
In Athens, the voting public would write or scratch the name of a person in the shard of pottery. When the decision at hand was to banish or exile a certain member of society, citizen peers would cast their vote by writing the name of the person on the piece of pottery; the vote was counted and if unfavorable the person was exiled for a period of ten years from the city, thus giving rise to the term ostracism.
Not that it matters that much but I am both Greek and archaeologist and the part you quoted is true although ostraka come only from pottery and we rarely (if ever) call stone fragments ostraka. Also their dating can be done by the style, painting and C14 chronology. /slightlyrelatedinfos.
Btw if anyone wants any specifications on cards in relation to greek mythology I can halp.
Except for Pharika's and Iroas art... holy hell are those God arts TERRIBLE. They completely went overkill on the "Nyx" starry crap. You can't even see what Kruphix looks like! This is a huge downgrade from the other God Arts. They are really leaning heavy on digital art.

To the people that say that a card needs to be a higher rarity because of Limited... I hate you guys so much. I present to you with this.

Maybe she decides that Theros is better off without any gods and kills them all?
You know what'd be great... a good kruphix
like one that untaps at the end of turn
and gives things flash... but wait there's more he will cost UG right guys.... right?
That's how the god was designed. Nothing to do with this individual rendition.
They could have gone through other ways and still keep it mysterious. This just seems like a lazy cop out of just "is it an enchantment creature? Just slap Nyx starry art all over it and call it a day."

He's literally a void. Nyx just fills darkness on the gods, so his darkness (all of him) is filled. He looks AWESOME, whatever the choices for making him like that were. I personally like the appearance of all the gods in JOU (Though Iroas is the worst of a good bunch. It's too bright...)
Regardless, I don't think we can properly conclude until we see them in the cards. I think Keranos and Kruphix will look awesome in their borders, and I'm hoping Iroas will work with his. I suspect Atheros will lose some there, but his art is awesome, so it doesn't matter.
Am I the only one who thinks that Godsend weapon looks mighty unwieldy? A long pole with a sword blade on top. How are you supposed to battle with it? If you hold it near the blade for balance, someone can grab it from behind you. If you hold it by the bottom of the pole, then you can only swirl it around. Sure, you get momentum but you're wide exposed and can't switch aim rapidly.
With the original picture where Elspeth holds it up, I always thought it looked like a train signal post. Maybe that's how the weapon works. Xenagos taunts you: "what are are gonna do with your ridiculous half-pole / half-sword my pretty?" Then the gems start to blink alternatively with a ding-ding-ding-ding-ding sound. A loud woooo woooo woooo. Xenagos "WTH?", looks back and gets hit by a few hundred tons of freight lead. Elspeth wipes off the little bits of bloody Xenagos off her clothes and answers "Welcome to your party train, Xen."
Maybe it's just me.
(Also, Ajani is totally WG. Look! he's white, wears green clothes and surely just cast giant growth on himself.)

It actually doesn't look all that different from a variety of polearms used in real life. The Naginata for instance.
How would the art description for heroes reunion ask for a pair that is Ajani and Elspeth? It just doesn't add up except in the similar pose to the previous versions.
I have to agree here. Plus the acronym given to the file name for the picture is SOH.
"_____ of heroes" maybe???
EDIT to add full filename and source.

Summit of Heroes1GW Instant (Uncommon)
Target player gains 9 life.
No no. Given that Heroic is the big thing in this block, this should be the card:
Summit of HeroesGW Instant (Uncommon)
The controller of target creature gains 7 life.
not loving the Kruphix art, I like more detail, but the other gods are just so COOL looking. hoping at least one is playable beyond Standard. Also praying the new artifact goes back to colorless.

Project Booster Fun makes it less fun to open a booster.
I personally like Kruphix's art, but I am worried about what the cards actually do. Cards like Phenax or Karametra have nice art but are unplayable crap.

Kinda like this. Notice that often, the ones wielding the naginatas hit quicker and at safer distances than those with the swords.
Who wants to bet that Kuphrix is a Planeswalker who found the method of achieving godhood long time ago? He might be even pre-mending. He could be a Vedalken.
I'm calling it right now- worst rare in the set. Even good limited players will find better bombs at common and uncommon no sweat. Worst. Episode. Ever.
I really do predict this to be our worst rare in set award winner. I'd be happier opening a jar of eyeballs, so I think anything worse is highly unlikely. This card wont just have zero constructed potential, but not be significantly better than a mass of ghouls in a draft.
Despite my loathing of Black, Erebos has the coolest Nyx star field of all IMO. I wish Thassa's had been more prominent. Ephara is second so that redeems.
Heliod is a bit of a jerk to his brethren but his concerns for Nyx and Theros overall are very White and respectable. I think his status as a sun god makes him desire being the center of attention whereas his identity on the color wheel makes him care about the mortal world as a whole. Though Nylea probably shows the most compassion and wisdom regarding that matter.
(Also, Ajani is totally WG. Look! he's white, wears green clothes and surely just cast giant growth on himself.)
i like this point i hope his +1 would be something like: up to two target creatures get +3/+3 until the end of turn or target creature get +3/+3 until your next turn
kruphix's art is the best of all in my opinion, but ill have to have it in my hand before my final judgment

Not quite there buddy, in order to achieve the awful level of BNG it'd have to be something more along these lines:
Summit of HeroesGW Instant (Uncommon)
Until end of turn, target creature you control gains "Tap: Target player gains 7 life."
You really have to get as janky as possible in order to get it right
You don't call "dying to removal" if the removal is more expensive in resources than the creature. If you have to spend BG (Abrupt Decay), or W + basic land (PtE) to remove a 1G, that is not "dying to removal". Strictly speaking Goyf dies to removal, but actually your removal is dying to Goyf.

This God cycle just keeps on delivering in the art quality department~!
I'm relieved Pharika's card art ended up looking neat (as I have high hopes when I saw her design).
And Iroas, dear, dear Iroas. Love that beefcake action going on! Mmm mmm!
And I reiterate some of the earlier reactions on the Ajani + Elspeth art... Ajani just makes one want to glomp him. Eric Deschamps is really been dishing some really good art these past sets!

Please NO. We just had one back in the conclusion set of the Return to Ravnica cycle (an un-necessary one at that).
As much as it is becoming a trend, I hope that considering the namesake that "Creative" does something else for this set's conclusion. Unless they wanna change their job titles to "Manatee Council" or sumthin.

Ajani is still looking reasonably green-white. So are we getting three green multicolor Planeswalkers this block? Trying to balance out Scars having zero?
I've still got my fingers crossed for Ajani as RGW

On MTGO as Protoman.
On 7/14/10, broke 1900 mark! <3 ROE.
Then again, the Theros block seems to be where Wizards is finally giving GU some love, what with Prophet of Kruphix, Kiora, the Crashing Wave, Kiora's Follower. Maybe they'll decide to provide the final piece in the puzzle so that a competitive GU Standard deck is possible (which would be a first, I believe).
Squirrel Opposition and U/G Madness says Hi!
Loving the art of this set, just hoping it's more interesting that the previous two extremely disappointing parts of this block
Not bothered about power but some interesting build around me cards would be nice.
Ah, right, I forgot about UG Madness (I was taking a break from the game at the time, so I was out of touch with the competitive scene).
In the past five years or so, at least, there hasn't been enough to make a competitive UG deck (Bant, sure, but not strictly UG). I really hope that there are some good cards to fill in the slots because it's such a fun color combination to play.
