While I didn't ever expect big box stores to carry this, it sucks that there won't be some downward pressure on LGSs to not inflate the price to an absurd level. And printing to "demand" is essentially meaningless - at least there's only one SKU unlike the bogus nature of Commander 2013.
What?
That statement negates itself.
There will be pressure to sell it at a competitive price,
because printing to demand *does* mean something with a singular product like this.
Momir Vig, Simic Visionary
Melek, Izzet Paragon
Oona, Queen of the Fae
Bruna, Light of Alabaster
Gisela, Blade of Goldnight
Rhys the Redeemed
Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord
Sen Triplets
The Mimeoplasm WUBRGSliver OverlordGRBUW WUBRGSliver Hivelord(Superfriends)GRBUW
Honestly, regardless of the price and value, I probably will not be getting this product. It's just that I hope LGSs will actually sell them at MSRP so that people thinking about getting into Modern will buy them so that there will be more people to play Modern with.
Do you think it is better for WOTC to overestimate demand, and therefore overprint the modern event deck, or be as close to the estimate for demand, and risk it being underprinted if that estimate is too low?

Any thoughts on Auriok Champion being in the deck? Seems kinda like an auto include.

I am not ashamed to say it. I bought my jace v vraska product at Wal-mart. It saved my 45 dollars on my cheapest LGS since I bought four. Am I a bad person for not supporting my LGS? Maybe, but 45 bucks is 4 hours of work for me after tax. Not insignificant.

Not at all. Your LGS should support you and the MTG Community there by selling at MSRP. I own a store and I am telling you now that I would have went to walmart as well.

@Stomping Grounds will you sell this on your web site (If you do make a control of quantity for people(other stores and online revendedors) don't buy off allot of these frequently)
Also is your store site and name named StompingGrounds?

If it is possbile, I think you will be able to make a lot of money if you make it available online like on Amazon or something, but limit the quantity to like 2 per person cause of hoarders.

Almost impossible. Amazon has 15% in fees and they only pay sellers twice a month. So if you sell for 20$ you lose instantly 3$ to fees then 5.05$ priority to ship it. You wouldn't even make anything at that point so selling on amazon for 20$ seems impossible. Some sell it for 21$ then they make about .75cents each after paying and employee to pack it

Updating the webpage but it should be up tomorrow. I will post again when it's ready. I really don't want to make anyone angry on here and have it seem like I am promoting my site, I just don't like the way prices get hiked up. I still have commander decks sitting on my shelf at $29.99 and one of them is a Mind Seize. None of my local customers are in a rush to pick it up because they know I keep my prices at MSRP and they can always get one later on. I even ordered a JTMS silver coin for anyone at my store that wanted one and all they had to pay was my cost of $79.99.
I don't understand this. This is what gives LGS's a bad rap. Everything we sell is MSRP, even when Modern Masters was super hot. Even singles, we go buy market price which is close to TCG low price. Why do we do this? Because quick turn around time is waaaay better than gouging the consumer. If an LGS is unlucky enough to have to compete with a big box store on product than why not build customer loyalty by selling at the same price or maybe a bit under?
Thank you for your reassurance. I really wish I had a LGS as good as yours. My store upcharges all their sealed product. The Commander 2013 Mind Seize deck was $50, Eternal Bargain and Evasive Maneuvers were $40 each. Recently they charged $25 for the Jace vs. Vraska duel deck. There's literally a Target right across the street that sells everything at MSRP. My LGS still wonders why their sealed products don't move with tons of stock of unsold product in their back room. If they cannot sell their sealed product in time, they just crack all of them open and sell them as singles.
Depending on what's inside the Modern Event deck, I would not be surprised to see them charging $95-100 for it.
The funny thing is that Mind Seize is still worth a lot more than $50 (even just True-Name Nemesis was worth more than that when it came out).
Am I misreading something? Isn't the Mind Seize on your site listed at nearly $60?
Yes it currently is. As I stated before we are updating the site and adjusting all prices to low market pricing. It just so happens that is the low market price for that deck. When that happens we have to manually go in and change the prices to MSRP.

Yes, it is "worth" more than $50. That's what makes it great for you and other players though. Being able to buy a product at MSRP and having it be more valuable than what you paid. That's what makes a great collection for a player, having something that is more valuable than what you paid. That's the whole point of cracking boosters. If every booster was stuffed with a card that was worth $3.99 than I doubt very many would be opened. Price gouging is what is turning players off of the game, it's simply too expensive to get anything good. That's why all of our product will remain at MSRP. Except of course for booster boxes, we sell them a lot cheaper than MSRP.
1st props to StompingGrounds for being one of those stores that is about supporting the player base and MTG community.
The jace vs vraska duel deck was released everywhere and the fact that most online retailers (IE SCG) jacked the price to $29.99 just shows that they just want to squeeze every last penny then can out of everything. It's really pathetic. The cost of MTG is getting way out of control. One day the bubble is going to burst, then what. Lucky for me,my local store is also about the local community and sold them @ 19.99. They also sell boxes $30 less than SCG too which is nice. Oh yeah, I called SCG out on there jacked up sealed product prices in a FB coversation once and they got so defensive. They actually said that my LGS was stupid for charging so little and they were dumb to leave money on the table. Well, take that how you will.
Anyway, the MSRP for the new Modern Deck just makes me sick. $75 really? And if it has anything of note in it, it's going to be $100-$150 pretty much everywhere. If's it not released everywhere, they'll be no way to keep the prices in check. This just shows that WOTC does not really care what their players have to pay to play the game anymore. It costs the same to print a foil island as it does a foil jace or a doom blade or a bitterblossom.
If WOTC really wanted to to expand the game and keep it growing on every level, they would reprint Modern and maybe some legacy staples in all normal set releases. Not "modern master" or "from the vault sets" that no one can get or afford. Releasing older format staples would boost standard product sales and slowly add new players to older formats.
How bad would reprinting all the fetch lands in a core set really be? How about goyf, or bob, or blossom in a new fall set? How about ravager in a non artifact set. Just be careful to not include them in block where the power would get out of control.

Remember that it's a game. Play, be competitive, and have fun.
I'm really not sure they need to go out and dump cards into sets just to do it. Goyf and Bob could probably go anywhere, but they are strong cards, so you can't just pick a set at random like you could with, say, Eager Cadetand it's going to limit what you can safely print in standard for the next couple years. Bitterblossom has that tribal thing stapled onto it, though. Of course, history has shown that it was probably a mistake to give it that because it proved to be too powerful. It's just like how things probably would have been fine if Darksteel Citadel were the only artifact land. Without it, Bitterblossom would have been a much more fair card. Ravager doesn't really make sense in a set without a bunch of artifact creatures because it has a mechanic that specifically puts its counters on artifact creatures when it dies. Now, fetches could go anywhere, but they honestly kind of suck unless there's some special benefit to them. They either need strong cards to take advantage of the shuffle, basic typed nonbasics, or landfall. Otherwise, they're down there on the level of suck with the Kamigawa/Ice Age/Tempest Crap Lands. (the Ice Age ones didn't even tap for colorless)
For standard, the fetches would work just fine w/o a lot of the other stuff like duels/shocklands, landfall etc. There would probably be some things that would benefit from them but not to the extent as in older formats. They would be played AND players would be happy to see them reprinted.
As in prior years, there is no reason that a core set cannot have the small sub themes. Arbound ravager just needs to some decent artifact creatures to work with and it would be fine. Just not oppressive like the Ravager Affinity from standard past. A core set could even have minor tribal themes. Bitterblossom could be printed with a handful of other faeries just for the flavor. Again these don't have to result in the crazy powerful decks from past standards, just playable in the current standard and make them more available for older formats.
The longevity of older formats relies on new players picking up the game and wanting to play older formats. If older formats are not accessible and 1 cards cost more than a box (or sometimes a case) of new cards, that is not very inviting.

I assure you, this is a peen contest you want to lose.
