American gaming publisher Wizards of the Coast has registered a trade mark in Australia for the term ‘Magic Origins’.
This comes a fortnight after the company filed trade marks for the terms ‘Dragons Of Tarkir’ and ‘Khans Of Tarkir’, and hints at new developments for the popular trading card game Magic: The Gathering.
The ‘Magic Origins’ trade mark was filed on March 4 by the US headquarters of Wizards of the Coast and a Sydney-based legal representative, Baker & McKenzie.
I'm going to go ahead and call another MTGO exclusive set like Vintage Masters...

~A golden helix streaked skyward from the Helvault. A thunderous explosion shattered the silver monolith and Avacyn emerged, free from her prison at last.~
Hmm. I actually fairly recently started an "old school" Magic format (using only cards from Alpha-Fallen Empires) that I initially called "Origins" (I've since changed it to "Genesis").
I'm very interested to see what this is. Hopefully it's not an online-only product.
It could very simply be a Return to Dominaria type product.
I support any return Dominaria, especially if it means: old cards reprinted (those not on the reserved list), old art, old walkers, old flavor, or whatever. Let's get a little nostalgia action going!
Movie Title makes the most sense at this point in time.
It definitely is not a movie.
Because the classes covered by the trade mark application include computers, video games, toys and entertainment,
just as same as the "Dragons Of Tarkir".

It probably is the wrong people, one would assume Fox would make the registration for the movie. But I would also guess that if a movie comes out that Wizards would be wanting to sell associated product..?
I'm going with movie title. I would be happier though if it were the end of the reserved list. But yeah, movie title is my guess. By the time the movie gets produced, it may not even be named this, but what better name for a movie title than Magic Origins? X-men had an Origins, so why not Magic. BTW, if this is the case, does it suggest a plotline with Urza? I never kept up with the storyline, so I am not sure what stories there are if any from before Urza.
On a side note, whenever this movie does come out, I hope Wizards runs a special card promotion for this. Either a turn in your movie ticket stub to an LGS for a special promo card, or each Blueray/DVD comes with a promo card. It will be even better if that promo card ties into the movie. And of course best ever if that promo card is something cool like mana crypt. Not that it needs to be mana crypt, but something you can get nowhere else.

RIP Batman guy. I hope somebody picks up the slack now that you are gone. Sick children need their Batman.
And let the baseless speculation about the end of the reserved list begin =P
If it is a set of cards of some sort, its either 1) an online compilation set, or 2) a timespiral-esque throwback set with cards that are not reprints but allude to them. That said, the classes this is registered for aren't the normal Expansion set classes, are they?
IMAGINE: A set designed to be as CLOSE to the alpha/beta/arabian nights/antiquities in theme/mechanics???
That wud be sick! Use old timey art and confusing text ;D
I would love to see that, but they woud have to have the old frames or faded colors of the old cards, the new frames don't really complement the art like they used to.
I certainly wouldn't mind the old text box coming back. I liked the "open scroll" look. The modern boarders are ugly compared to what used to be. But I still think this is about a movie.

Definitely would love to see the end of the reserve list (which they can do whenever thay feel like it) but I doubt it since modern is now Wizards "golden format" along with standard and limited.

I will always firmly stand by the belief that Magic is a game first and a collectable second.
I could not have said it better.

Possibly Shandalar remake? Into an app perhaps? To compete with the likes of Solforge and Hearthstone?
I want.
