I get the impression the characters are monocoloured WUBRG legends (in order, from right to left). Most likely all new characters that can also serve as EDH generals, but definitely not the last we'll see of any of them.
Basically, if you want to open packs to get cards for Standard and Modern, the simpler approach is to just buy all the singles you need and then set some money on fire to make up the difference.
edit: this tweet "also might've said that the fact that it's not standard legal is a REALLY big thing with regards to his power level!" has me pretty excited as well.
The twitter also says that given he's not standard or Modern legal he's going to be pushed hard. My guess to be playable in Legacy so I'm guessing we have our True Name Nemesis for this set.
Of what I can see from the Conspiracy card type we have, It is colorless (card number 1/210), and uses rolls of parchment for the type and name line. Not sure how relevant the second part is, but probably will make sense once we see the full card.
if conspiracy doesn't contain anything for modern I'll be quite upset. the release date of this product would make me think that there has to be something for modern in this cause modern season begins at\or around this products release. Since it would seem Dack isn't going to be modern legal, if there are NO fetches in this then I'll just bypass this product altogether. Imo save Commander(and by extension legacy) for Nov releases and a June release for modern.

You're going to be quite upset then since supplemental products are only legacy/vintage legal.

I wouldn't be so upset if they released conspiracy NOT at the beginning of modern season. look I have no issue with any of the other formats (other than the reserve list in legacy\vintage) and Conspiracy looks really cool. I just wish they didn't release it at the very start of modern season honestly. I feel there could've been a stronger push for the growth of modern if they released a product for modern at the beginning of modern season. Seems this might distract people from trying Modern given the release date.

Typical greedy modern player wants every product to have cards for the format.

Well, since this set has 210 cards with only 65 being new ones, that means there are 145 reprints. One would think that out of 145 reprints, there will at least be some Modern playable cards.

I wonder if pushed hard means good in Legacy or good in Commander (my hope is for the former).
During the BNG R&D stream they said they aren't likely to push cards too hard for Legacy in the future unless it is as more of a response to something else. They noted that pushing a card for Legacy is how we got cards like TNN which is pretty universally hated for a variety of reasons. I would expect that Dack is playable in Legacy, but not overpowered. Something along the lines of LotV.
I wonder if this new card type is something that will stick around or is it just a one-time thing. If it does become something we see more often, it's weird they chose to do it now right before the card face is getting a major overhaul.

I doubt it'll stick around since the conspiracy cards aren't eternal-legal.

nah just venting at the timing of the release of conspiracy and the beginning of modern season. seems counter intuitive to what wizards wants with Modern to release a product that isn't going to help grow their new cornerstone format(one would think) however there are reprints in this so we shall have to wait and see.

I suspect the Conspiracy card type might be something like Plane or Scheme or Phenomenon. That is, only usable with this product. Which might be why there's a bunch of cards that won't be Vintage/Legacy legal.

That's a very silly thing to vent about, mostly because things that grow Modern usually hurt other formats or end up doing more bad than good. Case in point: Modern Masters. You'll have to wait for normal sets like everyone else, Modern players are not special snowflakes that deserve more than any other player.

Is it beautiful? No
Is it cool? Not really/no
Are those characters powerful? I have no clue who they are or what they do
Throw Magister of Worth on a card sleeve and I'll be happier.
Throw COGWORK LIBRARIAN on a playmat and I'll be happier
