The very first card that was revealed was an alternate art Release Event foil promo. So yes, there are going to be official tournaments!
The solicitation material in this thread mentions that stores will get 30 or 60 promos depending on their level. The event is also listed in DCI Event Reporter. (Or it was a few days ago. The sign up time was ending soon when I saw it.) It mentions using the promos for the release and as Buy-A-Box promos.
The promos were said to be be used for either release events or as buy-a-box promos, at the store's discretion. There was also something on the wpn site about scheduling for Conspiracy could not be for FNM and would have to be entered as "casual events" when scheduling.
So the question may seem silly, but as Conspiracy isn't your typical set, I was wondering. Will there be prerelease events for CNS?
I believe the answer to that question is a profound no.
Conspiracy is meant as a casual multiplayer experience with draft shenanigans.
On the official page it only mentions a single release date.
Perhaps your LGS might host some sort of unofficial event, but nothing official anyway.
The original commander decks were casual multiplayer products, and they still had an official release event. The oversized foils for the two color generals were the promos.
A local store in my area that sells MTG but doesn't host events told me they will be receiving a standard allocation of boxes of Conspiracy, and will be selling them at the same price they sell all standard sets at, so it's certainly not a limited release. I think we're looking at a similar print run to any small set release.
No one pays $143 for a booster box of anything new that comes out. If they do, then they are paying too much. New booster boxes are always $90, sometimes less when they release. Then the price is usually about $100. I wouldn't pay more then $100 for a booster box, it's just not worth it. I usually pay $2.50 or $3 for a new booster pack of any set which is $90 for 36 and $108 for 36.
With a regular set you would be 100% correct, but they are not promoting this as a regular set. Regular sets also do not have an MSRP of $143, I believe it is more like $109 or something with most places selling between $90 and $100. In addition, at first (until boxes have shipped and everyone knows for certain what the stock will be like) many places are going to mark it up from MSRP. In addition since this is a non-standard set it is going to be less likely that yo will be able to buy boosters below MSRP (once again at least at first). I know on a local level it will be IMPOSSIBLE to buy Conspiracy at MSRP or below because that is the way the retailers are. It does not help any that almost no place online has pre-orders yet outside of T&T and they have jacked the priced considerably.

I will always firmly stand by the belief that Magic is a game first and a collectable second.
where are you getting Boosters at for 90? I buy from Coolstuff and they are almost always 99.99.. RTR and Gatecrash were around 92 for a few months close to printing end (GC still there) DGM is 84.99 but you cant even give those away... actually now that I'm typing this and researching, your numbers are actually pretty right on..lol

Solicitation for a standard set also shows $143.64.
For recent sets you can often get them at $90 from eBay stores. Speaking of eBay, when I last checked a few days ago "pre-orders" for Conspiracy were already for sale and the average price I saw was about $145.

MSRP for a pack is $3.99, and there are 36 packs in a normal booster box, so $143.64 is the MSRP of a normal booster box. Something to remember next time you (the general "you", not you "you") want to call for product to be sold at MSRP.

Don't you usually get things at a discounted price if you by them in bulk though? I.E. a box of something rather then just one or two.

Sure, but each pack is still MSRP $3.99. Wizards doesn't see it as their business to tell stores whether they should discount for bulk and how much that would be. A booster box is not a consumer unit, it is a wholesale unit that stored decide to sell, often at a discounted price.

I think I understand; the stores don't have to sell the boxes if they choose not to and by doing so they lose money if they sold the box at lets say 90-100 dollars because that's what they paid for the box(?). Where as selling the packs at $3.99 a piece they make a profit. Ok, makes sense, i just never really thought about it.

Actually, I think that the wholesale price that shops pay works out to about $2.00/pack, so they are not making a loss so much as making less than the standard retail profit on boxes and multiple packs in order to drive business to their store. They make up for that loss with sales of singles, gaming supplies, and other products (like craft beer at one of my shops).
Distributors never sell to LGS at MSRP. Even if they did, they have huge discounts. The worry isn't the LGS. The worry should be the demand for such products.
Will they spoil the remaining card the same day? the release is next month and we don't know much about the set.
From what I understand, we're getting one week, which is next week, of pure Conspiracy spoilers. That being said, this week Wizards mothership articles are going to be previewing their new MTGO product Vintage Masters which has been confirmed to have some Conspiracy stuff in it, so we'll probably see at least a few cards from the set pop-up on the spoilers before the end of the week.

Uncovering Secrets
The nightmare is over for now, but there's something even more sinister on its way. For some time now, a conspiracy has been brewing at REDACTED. I've been trying to pin down who's involved, but so far I've only identified one member: REDACTED. I can only hope my editor, REDACTED, isn't REDACTED. If you get this message, I need someone to go to REDACTED and look for a REDACTED. Everything I have on the REDACTED will be there. Once you have it, deliver it to my contact at REDACTED right away. He'll be waiting for you at REDACTED. Godspeed.
Really the more I see and read of Conspiracy, I starting to wish that we could have an entire block based around this world. Granted, I find it kind of refreshing to see something that hasn't yet pushed a heavy emphasis on planeswalkers thematically, and whilst one of the first cards revealed was Dack Fayden we haven't even seen too much of an emphasis on him. Its feeling like we're to focus on the smaller characters and the intrigue surrounding them. Maybe it is possibly just giving me a nostalgia trip to when I first picked up Magic.

$145 is pretty damn close to the MSRP of $143 and some odd amount of change.
