I love the unbanning but banning DRS was the wrong move. Wizards has put a very strong nail in the coffin that is the faith and stability of the Modern format. If a card as "innocent" as Deathrite is banned for merely being good where does it end? Will Pod be next even though it isn't dominating? What about Lightning Bolt once Zoo picks up in popularity? Where is the line in the sand because banning Deathrite has set a very dangerous new precedent.
Come on. DRS was easily the best one drop creature in the format bar none. It's probably the best one drop black or green creature ever printed.
Banning Primordial in EDH is just as dumb ad banning Prime Time. Every other color gets brokenly good cards, but if GREEN gets a good 6-7 mana CREATURE they better knock it out.
WotC should just take over the official banlist for Commander. I have no faith in the EDH rules committee anymore.
Name a broken card in another color that is run in every single deck containing that color.
I mean, honestly, they should ban sol ring and mana crypt ,bit that is not happening haha

Rest in RIP My Signature, I guess. 2015-2016, we hardly knew ye.
Total side note but I like how people are discussing running this over itself.
Well, it has to be said that Kolaghan is clearly better than Kolaghan. Considering what BR decks usually want and how stiff the competition in this guild is, there is no way that I would run Kolaghan over Kolaghan! Kolaghan might make it in as the sixth guild card or so. Kolaghan on the other hand ranks several places below that.
It was so funny to me when they described this as a downgrade to the original Zurgo during the Pax East panel. I was thinking if this is a downgrade, they should really "downgrade" all legendary creatures. Haha.
My deck designing is quite concise at this point:
1. Come up with deck idea
2. Realize this idea is somehow fundamentally similar to another deck I have or that is commonly played in my group
3. Decide I don't want to disassemble one of my existing decks
4. Give up and do nothing
I don't see the point of this new shroud mechanic. It's strictly worse than Hexproof. Threshold is pretty bad too, Delirium is a much better mechanic and probably easier to activate.
Otherwise this card is a pretty neat guy. Dodges removal and grows into a Primal Huntbeast. 3/5
For what it's worth, the opposite of evergreen is "deciduous" so I suggest we start using that from now on to refer to shroud, banding, islandhome, etc.

BFD. It's okay to have good and great cards in a format like Modern.
I think banning DRS was a poor decision. He didn't do anything degenerate like Hypergenesis or Blazing Shoal. He was just a good, strong, splashable card.
I like all these modern decisions. Conservative, yet enough to rattle some motion. Also, don't sell off those plummeting DRS, I'd be surprised if it stayed below 20$ post rotation.
And? I'm pretty sure jund is dead now.... Unban cards, don't ban any. Pod gets extremely more powerful now...
They keep killing decks... Next to go will be pod once it starts to dominate again.
I agree. This banning totally killed Jund, it's unplayable now. Wizards needs to stop interfering with our format, especialyl because we're the ones paying money for the cards.
Ditto. But I'd rather have them unban expensive cards as a priority so they can be playable in as much formats as possible. I am holding on to my Sword of the Meeks also... I would really like to play modern using budget decks.
Bitterblossom is a card everyone knew would get unbanned someday, with the reasoning already mentioned in the mothership. I'm just glad I have my copies
I'm glad that I don't have to worry about deciding whether or not to bolt a DRS while playing B/R burn now, however I am not glad that I have to find replacements for the DRS in said deck
I wonder if cards like Black Vise will ever get unbanned, but for now, the format is in a good place.

Due to real-life obligations, I am taking a long break from Magic which may include missing the local Legacy GP. Apologies for not being able to keep my threads updated.
DRS is practically a one-manner Planeswalker that doesn't worry about loyalty counters. Anyone defending the cause of continuing playing DRS in Modern is more concerned with losing the ability to play a degenerate card than the health of the format itself.

I'm sorry but I don't believe for a second that there won't be a deck somewhere in the format that wants to play goyf dark confidant and thoughtseize.... it's not like anyone who bought these cards lost any value on them as they're still some of the best cards in the format by far

banning Deathrite Shaman just completely crippled my WRB burn deck by removing my mana fixing. Maybe wizards can make it up to me by reprinting the allied color fetchlands in m15

He was just a good, strong, splashable hybrid one drop that accelerated mana, gained life, and clocked an opp. all while attacking the graveyard.
Any one-drop that puts Grim Lavamancer to shame should probably not exist in general.
I mean, the list of black decks splashing green and green decks splashing black for this one card was insane. DRS was stifling aggro, graveyard, and prison decks, just be existing. It was too good not to be a 4 of in your 60. That seems to be a bit too much for a simple one-drop.

I would almost bet money that it will be reprinted in the Modern Event deck. You know, the one with all the tokens?

Bitterblossom was never 8 bucks in the short term dude, cheapest you could get them a few months ago was like 13ish bucks a copy.
Feel free to bid on my cards here!

Demonic tutor. Most decks use it in a fair way though, but if you're not running DT, your deck would be better if you did.
Grisselbrand is about to jump up in price too... I expect a bunch of reanimate, pod, and twin at GP Richmond...
4 pod decks in the top 8...
wow that didn't take long, basically doubled
