I fear I won't have much time to play Magic these days.
I get to watch worlds develop around me.
I get to watch great leaders, terrible oppressors, and trend setters rise and fall.
Limited, Standard, Modern, everything is a different playing field I feel I can observe, but will not actually touch.
I look forward to the stories I will hear.
And more so to the ones I will watch unfold first hand.
Isn't the unknown exciting?
I miss prerelease promos that mattered. Remember when Wurmcoil Engine was a prerelease card? Oh Wizards...
Yeah, not feeling the intro decks. The only reason I ever bother with them is at a prerelease as a way to grab a couple extra packs, beyond that they're just not worth it, even for newer players (most intro decks nowadays are so-so at best, even at that level).
Yeah I was somewhat impressed with the Theros intro packs. They had some sought-after rares, but these seem a couple notches down. It doesn't help that they carried over some rares from Theros intro packs. I was hoping for another BNG rare in the W/U deck. The R/G deck seems decent at least.
Is the casual market really that large that Intro Packs still sell so well?
Other than them, the only people I can think that buys them are those who collects them. Not counting cases like Rat's Nest of course (If that happened today, it'd get the Mind Seize treatment anyway, and people said Kamigawa was the worst block ever... it had the best prepackaged set deck ever.)

They sell out at my LGS as fast as he can get them in, casual players buy them seeing that they get an entire deck plus 2 boosters.
Back up to 26 lands again, reuse of previous rares, they are getting really lazy.
The B/G seems like it's the only "fun" deck, and the R/G seems like it's the only playable one. The other 3 are absolute rubbish.
I miss the theme deck days. Actually, I miss the "Preconstructed Deck" days. Playsets of key cards and stuff instead of filler vanilla coasters.
It would be so easy to actually make a decent Intro Pack out of M14/THS/BNG that could still use tweaking without resorting to the random piles these decks are. I understand there is a target audience, but why not appeal to a broader scope?
It's like this. WOTC is giving newbies a deck that isn't a "deck", if you know what I mean. I see what they did there.
The 60 cards you find with intro packs? Yeah, they're no different from the packages of cards you find with deckbuilder's toolkits.
If that were true, why doesn't WOTC change intro packs back to theme decks (keep the foil and the whole equal color treatment within all 5 decks), and designate the deckbuilder's toolkit, along with DOTP as the starter product? There is seriously no reason to label the intro packs as the starter level product anymore. I would also like for WOTC to make the core set intro packs more newbie friendly, while the block expansion ones usuable by people who already know how to play the base game, and is also fun to use by expert learning how to make good use of the mechanics the deck is based on.
Going back to the whole pack vs deck thing, anyone remember the tournament packs? Has anyone tried to do a tournament pack vs tournament pack, as is, and have fun with it?
Yeah, I see the whole marketing genius behind the intro pack. "It's technically an intro pack, so we don't have to make a real deck out of it" Lol.
But I do have to give the intro pack some props though, they are better than the boring 40 card core set theme decks.
I don't mind some of the intro packs. I play intro pack vs intro pack from time to time. It's about as fun as sealed and the decks are usually fairly balanced against each other. I've kept casual decks that have developed out of intro decks--the b/w exalted deck, for example, or even the really janky r/g undying deck from DKA. Kinda thought they missed the boat on Modern Masters. Could have done precons with the limited tribes--even if they weren't giving boosters or rares in the packs.
If I'm interested in making a standard deck, usually if there's a current intro pack based on that set, I buy it, take the few good cards from it and put them in my deck. And if I pull some good stuff in the packs that support that deck, I throw those in there too. So I use intro packs to get the basic cards to help start my standard decks.
I think they deliberately make these terribad as lesson to new player so they can learn to improve them. Also, potentially as a challenge to casual kids who play them as is against one another. "Can you stand to play these as is?" haha
But seriously, I think it is an effort to make Event Decks more of a thing. They dont WANT these to be a standard entrypoint, they want people to get their premade decks and go from there.
I developed my early collection with themedecks and worked to improve them, its how I learned to play and build decks. If I had to redo that process with THESE decks, I would probably not still be playing the game :/

The RG one is the only one that is even slightly ok and that is because it comes with 2 Fanatics, a Mistcutter, and a Searing Blood.
