I don't know what to think of Swordwise Centaur's flavor text... It implies that Elspeth is from this plane. Am I right to read it as that? I could have sworn she was from another plane.
In addition to Swordwise Centaur, Great Hart and Cyclops of the One-Eyed Pass have flavor-text from "The Theriad" which seems to tell the story of the girl from Swordwise Centaur, who becomes 'Champion of the Sun' and 'Chosen of the Sun God' after journeying with someone named Althemone. I guess this girl could be someone different from Elspeth. It's also interesting because the girl and Althemone in the flavor text for Cyclops of the One-Eyed Pass are reminiscent of Eslpeth and Ajani from that one art we have from later in the set.

I would have myself a good, hearty laugh if they broke the Reserve List for Baron Sengir
Hey at least the secondary market wouldn't cry bloody murder as his price skyrockets to $49.99 in mythic rarity. You could totally ramp him out by turn 6 with Sunastian Falconer

No, the Theriad is just a legend, similar to the Odyssey or the Illiad. The main character--the hero-- of the story was always referred to as the "Champion" in THS flavor texts, and we can only assume that her full title is "Champion of the Sun"
this could still imply that Elspeth is the next incarnation--the next big champion of theros (nto that we didn't already know that)
and...
There's our ispired enablers! too tired to brew, but I seriously cannot wait to see how inspired works out now!
also the white and blue tributes seem weird.

If I'm not mistaken (and I often am when it comes to these things) we don't know Elspeth's home plane. I remember some people speculating that she was from Theros.

Her home plane had phyrexian oil on it, and has presumably been phyrexianized by now. Definitely not Theros.

I primarily play limited, so most of my spoiler season comments view cards through that lens.

We know that Phyrexia invaded her plane, so it can't be Theros.
Fair enough, and actually I agree. I like the new name better, but could have been used for a better card.
Glamers and knacks are not a greek concept. Knack comes from middle english in ~14th century, and glamer/glamours are a type of fairy illusion. That is why neither could be reprinted.
We do however know that Elspeth's spark triggered when she was young, so it's possible that the flavor text on the Centaur refers to a young Elspeth, just arriving on the plane, no idea where she is, what happened. The girl in front does look a bit like young Elspeth, and is dressed differently from the others. After all, we don't know when the Theriad was written, nor when Elpeth went to Theros first.

It would certainly make more sense if Champion were a title that multiple people had. Elspeth doesn't seem to have been on Theros long enough to do all thing things the Champion has done.
Well, I'm going to go against the negativity bandwagon here.
I think this set looks like a lot of fun. There's a lot of synergies embedded in these cards and while a majority of these cards aren't going to be breaking any formats, I think Standard got some nice goodies, Commander got some cool cards and I'm pretty confident in saying that Modern and Legacy might have gotten a bone thrown at them as well.
That said, I really think Limited is the big winner here. I think these cards are really going to diversify Theros draft and that they're really going to force us to re-evaluate the format, which I think is necessary. I've felt that Theros itself felt incomplete and I think adding Born of the Gods to the puzzle will really make it shine (unlike how DKA made INN feel more cluttered instead of adding to the enjoyment).
Lastly, the best card name with associated card art is Setessan Starbreaker. Not a great card, but that name and art is freakin' baller.
Sorry to go against the grain here boys... but I really like this set so far.
Moss Kami is a better card and was a common in kawigawa. Same with giant warthog, strictly better in green. I don't think red matters enough to justify having a 5/5 trample for 6 with a drawback.
Indeed in this block you can get twice the beater with no drawback in armada wurm, granted, that mana cost matters, but compare a 5/5 trample with a drawback for 6 to two 5/5 tramples with no drawback for 6
???
I know punisher effects are worse than the generally weaker side, but that doesn't mean they have 0 value. This guy is worse than a 5/5 haste trample, and worse than an 8/8 trample, but he's strictly better than a 5/5 trample.

Elspeth got her sword on Theros, so it could be that she is still the Champion from the Theriad.
She traveled for a few years between her home plane being phyrexianised and ending up on Bant, which included a stay of undetermined length on Theros. Long enough to get her sword, and where else but from whoever trained her?
Tribute fell flat on its ass, surprising no one. That 4/4 snake with trib 3/gain 4 life has the coolest art on such a shameful card. There are also two frigging strictly worse air elementals with tribute. What the ham is going on over there at wizards?

My favorite flavor text: Time of Heroes

We're going to have to disagree on this one
All jokes aside, are any tribute cards going to see play? I think the Gruul one has potential, but the rest of them seemed underwhelming.
Pretty good set, seems fun for limited---really deep uncommons/commons. I like it better than I liked Dark Ascension, Dragon's Maze, M14. IMHO, better than Judgment, Scourge, Legions, Scars/Besieged, Fifth Dawn.
Complaining people clearly never experienced opening Mudhole, Loafing Giant, or Alabaster Leech as your rare, repeatedly...this set is deep, if unspectacular. And I appreciate the value being deeper than cards you might see one out of every 70 packs!
This is a solid, enjoyable set. It'll be fun, even if you don't crack a Brimaz or Xenagos.

that's not what happened at all. kamahl stabbed phage, akroma, and some old lady and they became korona. then korona got stabbed by her "prophets" and kamahl got drunk with a mutant centaur

She's not. Her home plane was in someway inhabited by Phyrexians. Her spark ignited at a young age, and apparently she found her way to Theros.
I know punisher effects are worse than the generally weaker side, but that doesn't mean they have 0 value. This guy is worse than a 5/5 haste trample, and worse than an 8/8 trample, but he's strictly better than a 5/5 trample.
I think clan_iraq probably overlooked the CMC, as while still bad, Thunder Brute is strictly better than the 5/5 tramplers he mentioned.

Cards that stand out to me (and by 'stand out' I mean I may possibly play but probably won't):
Phenax. Yeah he is Mill, but he seems good for Mill. I think he will be better than people claim.
Bile Blight and Drown in Sorrow. These will go in the SB of all my decks that run black.
Pain Seer. Not sure on this one but he is interesting. I don't know what deck he will be good in.
Xenagod. I mean he is awesome but with how much removal Black is getting, will he even matter?
And uh...that's it. I kind of don't like this set. Nice art though I guess.
EDIT: Oh and Brimaz. He is kind of cool. And that Raymond Swanland Eidolon dude.

Storm Crow is strictly worse than Seacoast Drake.
Yeah, I totally forgot about that. Serves me right for trying to talk about the storyline.
Can you let me know what this weeks lotto numbers will be? You seem pretty good at telling the future.
Well, this is what i'm calling him from now on.
Also, Oracle's Insight art is amazeballs

You're right.
Every other color got one at uncommon:
Update:
Kiora's Follower is probably why there isn't a blue uncommon with a green mana activation.
There is still an identical number (10) of monocolor uncommons for each color.
