The amount of flavor in Revoke Existence in this set just blew my mind. Anyway Red drop is cool. think of it in reverse; instead of killing off a random creature with a red damage spell; now you get to do what you were already going to do just hit your opponent for damage aswell. Pretty damn good for Standard at the very least, even if it still isn't the Legacy format changer like say Snapcaster was.
You know, two of the three colors of this Standard.
Uh...wouldn't that make three? You seem to have your numbers mixed up there buddy.
Anyway, if you'd been paying attention you'd realize both blue and black have been given cards that deal with the Gods. I think that only leaves red left, which makes sense since enchantments are supposed to be red's weakness.
And I was hoping to get Revoke Existence to get reprinted and just use Fade into Antiquity all day long. Looks like my prayers are answered. Will surely include this in the sideboard of my Maze's End Deck.

Why on earth (sorry, why on Theros) is the Satyr an enchantment?
He's a good card and I'd love to brew with him, casually if nowhere else. But can anyone explain to me how just throwing "Enchantment" on the type line here isn't just arbitrary design?
Because he's part of a cycle of cards that have effects they'd put on global enchantments that are also creatures. Similarly to the Archetypes, they're cards that could be done without the enchantment, but don't feel out of place being enchantment creatures, at least to me.
If that satyr was 2/1 and dealt damage to both players and creatures he could have been the final modern 2 drop to complete THE CYCLE! But he wasn't. Or maybe If he'd been 1 mana with everything else the same... C'mon Wizards you couldn't push it just a little bit?
God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. Yet his shadow still looms. How shall we comfort ourselves, the murderers of all murderers? What was holiest and mightiest of all that the world has yet owned has bled to death under our knives: who will wipe this blood off us? What water is there for us to clean ourselves? What festivals of atonement, what sacred games shall we have to invent? Is not the greatness of this deed too great for us? Must we ourselves not become gods simply to appear worthy of it?
If that satyr was 2/1 and dealt damage to both players and creatures he could have been the final modern 2 drop to complete THE CYCLE! But he wasn't. Or maybe If he'd been 1 mana with everything else the same... C'mon Wizards you couldn't push it just a little bit?
Creatures or players wouldn't have been pushing "it just a little bit." That would have been picking it, lifting it over their head, grunting, and launching it into space. Lightning Bolt dealing 6 to the face for 1 mana in modern seems like it might have been an issue. Instead it just hits for 3 and kills something.
I suspect this was tested in a few forms and this was the one that didn't kill Standard or Modern.
For what it's worth, the opposite of evergreen is "deciduous" so I suggest we start using that from now on to refer to shroud, banding, islandhome, etc.
You know, two of the three colors of this Standard.
This is why I feel like people never check facts. Blue has Curse of Swine, Black has Gild, Green has Fade AND Unravel, White has Revoke. Red is the only one missing a clear answer. While it isn't true that every color has an answer, or even "good" answers
Alas, I really think the Firedancer is A LOT better than people are giving it credit for. With this guy out a burn deck doesn't have to choose between racing face vs clearing creatures. It can do both. A lightning strike to the face does 3 to the opponent AND can kill a creature. A boros charm is a 2 mana 4 to face and 4 to creature. An effective searing blood does 2 damage to creature, 3 to opponent, then 3 more to another creature. I really really like this card.
I can see this being really scary in EDH too especially in mono red, where you run spells that can hit multiple opponents at once and have repercussions out. Banefire for 15? 15 to your creature and another 15 to your face again!
I would not count this guy out, by any means. Not having to choose between creature and opponent is rather big for "double" the effect.
The thing about the firedancer is- what purpose does it serve? As a burn deck it does nothing for you. As an aggro deck, would you be running the burn to justify it? And if its job is to clear a path for your beaters, well, its a 1/1 1R drop, so it is self defeating in that regard, just run another beater instead. Its not win-moar, but its awkward
If it was on a better body, maybe. Even a 2/1 would have pushed it to be pretty playable. 1 power, nope
I disagree on the playability, seems very playable imo. Even though you might want it in sideboard over maindeck depending on your local meta he is very strong. What you have to get on this is you shouldn't be playing this on turn 2 90% of the time since he will be an instant removal target and not get you ahead. Instead you wait til mid / later game to play him while your cacklers / goblin guide types do the early work. Then when their theats are out to defend your early aggro you drop this sucker and start laying down bolts shocks charms etc for very strong finishing ability. Again its not for every matchup but its still extremely potent in that it turns every burn into a 2 for one (or a searing blood into a 3 for one :P)

Are you brain dead?
What does it do for a burn deck? Uh gee, I dunno, how about keeping the board under control and allowing to you keep throwing all your burn @ the guy's dome without repercussions?!

Ah very true. Scratch the first idea lol.
But still; I think changing the card to 1 mana and leaving everything as exactly printed on the actual card could have made it at least somewhat interesting to eternal players. As is I don't see this as anything but a standard card. Which is unfortunate.
Had to chime in and say that my hopes have been fulfilled.
A reprint of Revoke Existence with vastly superior artwork and flavor text, I love it!
I have searched in vain for some foil copies of the Mirrodin version for EDH, and now the Gods of Theros hath delivered me.
I was afraid a reprint was off the table when I saw Fade into Antiquity, but lo and behold..

Wizards print good rares, players complain about cash grab. They print underwhelming rares, players complain that the cards suck. They spoil the best cards first, players complain about the insane prices of preorders. They spoil the meh cards first, players complain that this is the worst set ever.
So. I think I understand now.
As far as these forums are concerned, WotC can never do anything good because:
Card that is new and probably good = "pushed"
Card that is new and probably bad = "EDH/casual fodder"
Card that is a reprint = "lazy"
Card that is a better version of an older card = "power creep"
Card that is a weaker version of an older card = "worthless"
I approve of this new flamey goat man as opposed to his alcoholic cousin from the last set. He will definitely see a few sideboard slots in my namesake deck to cover the creature heavy matchups.

OMG just realized something crazy
This guy + deathtouch = lol
He can kill emrakuls all day
Emrakul has pro all colors, Satyr is red. Flying Spaghetti Monster wins.
What does it do for a burn deck? Uh gee, I dunno, how about keeping the board under control and allowing to you keep throwing all your burn @ the guy's dome without repercussions?!
Without repercussions? If its a target for their removal when you are burn heavy, or its one less burn spell or heck, it could have been a spot removal spell or sweeper. Cards put into your deck are not without opportunity cost. If you can somehow keep this guy out and keep laying down nothing but lava spikes to stabilize a board, I'd have to wonder what kind of goldfish you're playing against
The heavier you are on beaters, the less of a target this is, and the less it does in turn.
This is not a burn card, it does not advance you towards a burn to the noggin victory. It is not a sligh threat, it is not a beater that keeps you on an efficient ramp
What it is, is a roundabout form of removal.

Deals 3, make token, kill a guy. Repeat, beat, admit.
