Brimaz, on the other hand, looks really good. Might be a nice Hero of Bladehold impersonation, although he'll need some support (Spear of Heliod) to be as good. However, he's way better on defense.
Brimaz' 4 toughness saves the card. Stands through Anger of the Gods, Bile Blight and Lightning Strike, and demands both combat damage and ability damage from Reckoner to go down. Now that's a good kitty.
So what do people think about the claims of Fated Intervention being good in blue devotion?
I'm no expert on the deck, but my guesstimate is that it might see play as a 1-of or 2-of at most. You can't play it on an open field, and most of the creatures in the deck are cheaper anyway, but on the other hand, instant speed is huge.

Next week, I've got another preview card coming up, one that is reminiscent of one of Paulo Vitor's favorite cards—a card he happened to use to win his first Pro Tour...
Sir, don't get me wrong, I was actually asking, I was not sure. Of course in this context there are more reasons to play this yes, i'm just wondering if you preffer to drop this instead of something else, specially at CMC 3 where mono U has nightveil. Then again costing 3 doesn't mean you'll play it on turn 3 so, it can be interesting. And the scry can make it quite relevant, smooting up to 2 draws, giving you a creature. I was not saying it was bad. I do understand that a card is totally tied to the environment, specially in T2.
Thanks for the insight though
my bad, i just assumed it was another among the many other similar criticisms of this card already addressed in this thread. you know text; it's often hard to differentiate between snark and an actual sincere question.
but to your point, i honestly can't say for sure whether mono blue players will want this. i don't play Standard and have no experience playing the deck, especially in context vs the other top decks in the format. all i can do is speculate on a purely theoretical level and say that is is much better positioned to be playable than Cackling Counterpart was in it's respective Standard format.
and in that light, i could see it's uses as a cheaper Master of Waves when you already have one out, as well as saving yourself from a blowout when your Master gets targeted with removal (gaining you some more elementals in the process). i can see it acting as another Nightveil Spectre with flash, helping to easily build a critical mass of devotion. i can see it acting as a cheaper Thassa with flash in the event your on-board Thassa gets targeted with removal.
there are definite synergistic upsides in that particular deck. the question remains if they will prove useful and consistent enough to warrant a spot or more in the deck over, say, a counterspell or draw spell. i would personally test one or two copies in the deck and see how they go before dismissing them as jank. just the interaction with Master alone seems incredibly sexy.
ah, true on the Evangel. i was tunnel-visioning on green.
i was just about to say that perhaps i am overthinking things and it will be something much simpler or not as literal in "used to win [the ptq]" as i was thinking, and could be something like Oracle or some simple removal spell.
Oracle for enchantments would make a lot of sense. it would also make Uril a happy ...uh, beast. as long as it isn't freaking Azorius.
Brimaz... his illustration is just icredibly good!
can't wait to play a white devotion with him and maybe even try building a casual EDH with him as a general!
Pffft, I'm already building an EDH decklist and I'll include him as commander after he comes out.

Immediately after the draft, you may notice how freakin' screwed you are, as someone just used Lore Seeker to get a pack of Zendikar with a power nine inside.
2/3
When I first laid eyes on Brimaz, I instinctively thought he was a 2/2. I read his ability and was, okay, that's pretty cool. But then I realized he's actually a 3/4 for THREE MANA, and holy hell.
Is it just me, or is Peter Mohrbacher doing the best work of all of these artists?
He hasn't disappointed yet!

Modern - UG Polymorph 10/10 (Home brew that has beaten every competitive modern deck out there)
Standard -W Mono White Heroic (Home brew that has beaten many competitive standard decks, still deciding on final rating)
Casual - RGW Slivers Aggro 8/10 (Standard Legal, only thing missing is removal and does pretty well in tournaments)
Pretty sure that is the most pushed white creature ever for PT. Have we ever had a 3/4 for 3 in white before? Craziness. Seems like lazy design to me, just to try and justify the mythic symbol. He should be a 3/3 at best.
It's a different version, that's all. He gets 2 extra power only if he attacks and blocks, which, compared to Hero of Bladehold is not particularly amazing, as she gets 5 extra power if she attacks, and then one more point for each additional creature attacking. On the other hand, if you have some way of preventing your soldiers from dying (say, brave the elements), they can serve as both attackers and blockers, as can the Cat himself.
Basically, you're sacrificing extra damage for a bit more self preservation and having him hit the board one turn earlier. Also, you can drop 2 Heroes of Bladehold and stack the effect on each other, which he cannot do.
Definitely comparable to Hero, but not really strictly improved or weaker than it.

This closest things to him are Wilt-Leaf Cavaliers and Razor Golem, which are both effectively WWW for 3/4 Vigilance and nothing else.

Ugh, presale prices of Brimaz just came out... Was hoping it was going to be some sort of bonfire/sphinx's revelation case where the first days they were super cheap. Not the case, but I guess the price will deflate tomorrow, as it (nearly) always happens. Anyways, I think he's bonkers in duel commander, baring in mind he can be paired with Eight-and-a-half tails
Just saw that... Now I'm thinking I've underrated this card, it seemed good to me but never thought people would like it that much.

Good catch on those 2 cards which I had forgotten. Both were limited stars only and had 0 impact on standard. So, I guess there is some precedent for this PT, although this guy has 2 abilities and his CC is not WWW. The interesting thing is that all 3 have vigilance, so I guess 3/4 vigilance for 3 is a template for a white creature going forward.
I would bet Goblin Ruinblaster was the card because he said that it was the deck teck to beat all gready mana bases and man lands, also it makes a lot of sense in the way that wisards usualy makes some cards that are designed to beat previous block strategy and that is... good mana bases, plus nyktos
That makes a lot of sense. I could totally see it being a tribute creature with "if its tribute wasn't paid, destroy target nonbasic land."
Felhide Minotaur is awesome! like kiki Jiki but not broken so people wont hate you as much will still use both though
they are pushing the the monocolored theme in this block, what with the super devotion dudes and UUUinstants, etc etc
AND I LIKE IT!

i was wondering when someone was gonna get to work on speculating on that. X)
obviously, it's a JtMS reprint.
but srsly, i think an Avenger of Zendikar based on devotion to green would be cool. or perhaps a Sphinx of Lost Truths with Tribute?
some kind of nod to Comet Storm? this block hasn't given us our token red x-spell yet...

Brimaz is surely a standard staple.
Maybe even can find a home in modern....
if it's not that expensive on release, grab your playset ASAP.
Throw in some mana generators to abuse the ability to repeat the effect, and you've got yourself a combo!
