The thing that I don't understand is why are they giving a Heroes card after JOU game day ? It won't be used...
But it's written on Heroes Path that there is a heroes card. Just for casual ?? Not a better reward ?
They're assuming everyone thinks the hero's cards are the bees knees and will want the full set to go with the Hydra/Horde/JOU deck they bought. It's Wizards of the Coast - don't try to make sense of it - it'll drive you mad.
Q: What is the last Hero Card for? The one you receive for successful completion of Quest #9. I've already beaten all the Challenge Decks at that point!
The last Hero Card completes the series (for collectors and memorabilia), provides another tool for players who wish to replay any of the Challenge Decks again ("New Game +"), and provides the last achievement for Planeswalker Points.
Am I the only one who feels the cards you won for participating should have been real Magic cards that, you know, you could play with in your deck? And that anyone dedicated enough to do all the steps of this thing for the entire block should get...again...real Magic cards?
If they created a card based solely on events it would just get shouted down as a "money grab" anyway. Damn wizards making us buy product we love to get a card. People complain about every possible thing.
People don't like it when others get something special for doing something special. If everyone who completed the Hero's Path got a special limited edition card, everyone else who didn't would whine and cry about it.

Isn't Grand Prix promos the same, where you have to complete tasks of sorts to earn one?
How about "You may discard your hand, pay 5 life, rip this card, remove 3 digits from any number of target fingers you control, and concede at the end of the next end step rather than pay It Will Go Through!!'s mana cost.
This is pretty much just like the Helvault two years ago, where they hyped it up a lot but the prize was tokens and dice. They really should give out promos of some kind, at least like FNM/Gateway foils that are always cheap as hell but still at least have a use. FNM foils have gotten better recently, usually always constructed playable commons or uncommons, so why not that? Give us a foil promo Magma Jet or something.
Oh, I thought he was talking about playing a spell that is countering a spell with counters on it as it comes into play, but I see you guys were just discussing whether he was flashing a creature with flash in order to flash a flashback or just flashing a creature with flash but not needing flash in order to flashback a spell without flash.
I like the path cards. I like the horde format, so I can play with friends who are not super competative and feel a little put off by super competative decks, so we can play coop. And then we can play some games that aren't as super-random like Planechase or Archenemy, and still do something which has a little extra.
And the hero cards allow the player to be this custom commander/vanguard. So, they're something a little extra, to add a layer to this thing that is a game.
Or it helps to give to newer player to level the playing field and help teach the game, as training wheels.
So, for me, it has value. It may even create a new format and that's awesome!

Soon, the stars will be right! Great Cthulhu shall rise!
No one likes to hear this, but if you are complaining about why this isn't a "real" card, the product isn't designed for you.
This product does an excellent job of doing what it was intended to do: be a fun side project/game/collectible. Note that at ALL stages of the Path of the Hero, there are other promo cards for those who are more competitive (if you aren't a fan of the prerelease, launch, and/or Game Day promos, well, that may be something for discussion in another thread). This product is targeted at the casual crowd.
Remember that two out of the seven hero cards at each stage are completely cost free to both the stores and the players! Only the prerelease Heroes "cost" something and that is entry to an event that already has other prize support and that many of us will be attending anyway.
These cards are fun, flavorful, and add a new dimension to the game... if you are into casual formats. I fully intend to get all 21 of these. I've already used the ones I have and may use them more using GodoftheGrove's ideas as well (I like the training wheels metaphor).
I think the hero cards are a nice touch to the MTG main game - a game that's existed for 20 years now. It's a new way to add some more flavor into it (like Vanguard and Planechase). Just as the horde decks gives it a new feel (Hydra, Horde, God). They're great. Besides, MTG constantly makes "MTG format" cards that are only really useful in certain formats (most of the EDH commanders have abilities which are only good if they're generals - thus making them pretty useless in normal decks, some of the new cards that will come out in Conspiracy are only really useful in draft format, etc.). So what difference is it if cards are printed for exclusive use in casual or even homebrewed formats? In many circles people play their decks including some of the hero cards just to spice things up. I've done it and it's been pretty fun - especially playing EDH with 3 hero cards to start.
I'm really interested in seeing what the last hero card is and what the stickers used to forging a godslayer are. That alone adds a bunch of different combinations and possibilities for new weapons.

True, putting stickers on cards in order to give them effects is weird, but I'm still interested in seeing how it is. I feel that it's something that could've come from an un-set. Like ripping up Chaos Confetti or Blacker Lotus. Here you're adding stickers to a card instead. If you missed the article, Maro considered even adding scratch cards just like scratch lotto tickets. That idea, however, was scratched. Yeah, pun intended.

How many Hero cards are there? I know there are 7 from Theros (like The Philosopher, The Slayer etc.) and JOU has cards like Cloak of the Philosopher etc. but was there a set for BNG?

.
Yes. There are seven per set, 21 in total. Five from prerelease kits, one from Launch Party (solving a puzzle), one for beating the challenge deck.
The five prerelease BNG heroes were all one-shot, with effect for exiling them - General, Savant, Tyrant, Warmonger, Provider.

There are people who will do that. There are people that have trade binders full of only Fires of Undeath. Collectors are insane, not WotC.

So inefficient when you can just bolt, snapcaster, bolt.
Major props to go Chuck Lukacs, who must have been working overtime to complete 21 pieces of art for the Heroe's Path!
These cards have amazing art, I hope Wizards sells the complete set of all 21 in some kind of promo pack.

You get the Champion for beating Xenagos, AFAIK.
Hall of Triumph is given to the stores to distribute is as they choose, but it is also considered a final reward of Hero's Path.
