I don't know why people don't think this guy is good. If you think about all of the instant speed removal used in standard at the moment, there's maybe three heavily used cards that can take this guy out. Removal arguments aside, I could honestly see this guy in some type of UG ramp deck. All you need for a core engine is Kiora's Follower and Karametra's Acolyte. Throw in Aetherling, Sylvan Primordial, Prime Speaker Zegana, Kiora, the Crashing Wave, and whatever other things you like. Prophet of Kruphix would be great. I mean, just using Kiora's Follower and Karametra's Acolyte let's you plop down a fatty on turn four. That's insane! They either have to block with all of their dudes on turn five or have a solution that can take care of this guy. Even if this deck isn't a tier one list, it still looks really fun, and will probably be my Go-To FNM deck.
This thing isn't made to compete with Aetherling, it will find another home, like in G/U devotion decks!. Seriously, dropping this early out in a ramp deck using Kiora's Follower will be insane, this is an absolute bomb in midrange decks. Don't look at it as only a drafting card, it has protection, unblockability, and a big bad butt, not to mention is a 3-turns clock. still, it may need some reinforcement cards as Simic Charm or something that gives hexproof in case they want to remove it while attacking.

Dissolve will make for a nice counter to protect it for that one crucial moment it may need it!
I simply don't understand those who think he's terrible. He's an 8/8 for 7 with hexproof, and near unblockability if your opponent attacks you with even a single creature, has something with Unleash, or something else.
It may not be playable in standard, but that doesn't mean it's necessarily "bad". There is no way to make a card like this completely standard playable without breaking it in half.
That said, it may still be playable in standard weirdly enough. With a bit of ramp, some solid creatures, and with Prophet of Kruphix, it could certainly be a 1-of finisher in a U/G build. Must remember that since everything must block it, nothing else you have will be blocked. And even if you don't kill them that turn, you stand a chance to completely wreck their board position.
Will it see Standard play? Eh... probably not, though I wouldn't be shocked if it did somewhere. Nykthos, Voyaging Satyr, Sylvan Caryatid, and Elvish Mystic are all things, after all.
Well, you have to try and understand the position of the posters; I for example am interest in competitive Standard, and I don't think he will make a splash there. But this guy is still a well designed Kraken with awesome flavour. It will find places in many casual-y decks and will crush a decent amount of players.
Therefore, it's a great card. It just isn't a competitive standard card. And I believe most posters were analyzing the card from this perspektive
Oh, certainly. I strictly play Standard and Limited (My favorite format, but it is exceedingly expensive to play to a significant degree). And I agree it won't see Standard play, but this has very little to do with it being "bad". Rather it's "Bad for standard" due to the cost. It's a well-costed, well-designed creature. That just so happens to cost a bit too much for Standard. He couldn't have cost less in his current form without being over-pushed. So he is what is. A perfectly fair critter.
In reality, I wouldn't be astonished if someone somewhere made good use of him in the 75. It is a strong card. I wouldn't put money on it, nor do I expect it to be some break-out hit. But if I see it show up in some Top-8 somewhere I wouldn't be shocked, is what I'm saying. It's a strong card, but not quite enough to justify the 7-cost most of the time.
I'm totally putting this in my G/U devotion deck. There is almost no reason not to. It requires a lot less maintenance than Aetherling and eliminates any type of chump blocking for my non trampling Arbor Colossus et al.

Would Dark Confidant still be good if he punched you in the face for 5 damage a turn?
Don't you see that the whole aim of Moderators is to narrow the range of thought? In the end we shall make infractions literally impossible, because there will be no words in which to express it. Every concept that can ever be needed, will be expressed by exactly one word, with its meaning rigidly defined and all its subsidiary meanings rubbed out and forgotten.
Yeah, because that'd be far more unique than what we got. :|
For blue?
Yes.
And its a slam dunk of the flavor of the Kraken from the Clash of the Titans.
And could see competitive play.

yeah... luckily there's a limit even for the off-color effect blue can get. it's a very broad limit but i think it stops way before "a blue desecration demon"
This has been beaten to death, but True-Name Nemesis is totally blue. Not only is protection not all that uncommon in blue, your problem is that you're not looking at what "protection from your opponent" actually does. For almost all intents and purposes, it actually reads:
True-Name Nemesis 1UU
Unblockable, Hexproof, Protection from Red
Prevent all combat damage that would be dealt to True-Name Nemesis.
Seems pretty damn blue to me. His actual text is just a simplified, less broken in multiplayer, slightly more powerful version of this.
I'll have to have 1 for my "gigantic expensive awkward blue sea monsters" deck (lol), but it's pretty bad. Even it had hexproof all the time, it's so expensive you've got much better options for finishers.

Just like they screwed up and gave worse art to the Pre-launch promo cards than the normal cards.
Actually, what you're describing seems like they did something right.

Definitely one of the sweetest for now

Still, it wouldn't be a unique card. I'd rather have something unique like what we got than something that we'd see in Planar Chaos.

...Except Krakens aren't actually Greek, Clash of the Titans wasn't accurate, and Saccing to prevent an undercosted creature from swinging isn't Blue.
cough True-Name Nemesis /cough.
Storm Crow is strictly worse than Seacoast Drake.
