terrorking-deactivated20140113 asked: Any chance we can see Roman-inspired things in Theros, like Spartacus or the three founders of the Roman Empire? Or is this strictly Greek?
It’s strictly Greek. We made the conscious choice to hold off on Roman so we could use it later.
I guess mark rosewater lied. The person who asked this question even asked specifically about the founders of the Roman empire, who this card is obviously inspired by. Granted it was 2 brothers, not 3, but whatever.
Oh boy, I can finally put that wolf deck together. Now I just need something else besides Briarpack Alpha, Witchstalker, and Howl of the Night Pack. This is a good start.
I'd suppose it's a poorly researched Artemis reference but I'm sure the real story is in there somewhere.
No, actually, it's a reference to the story of Romulus and Remus, the two brothers said to have founded Rome. In the story, they were abandoned as babies and raised by (you guessed it) wolves.

^ The story of Romulus and Remus is included in greek mythology, but it is more of a footnote. They obviously have much more relevance in roman mythology.

FINALLY a use for biomancer! lol. I always want to play him, and i always take him out after getting trounced by the boyfriend's boros weenies.
Perverted mythology and inconsistency about the theme of the block. Nice.
Initially, Theros block was said to be mostly Greek, with some Roman mythological or cultural aspects, or essentially Graeco-Roman. Now, Mark Rosewater is stating that it is Greek-only.
Indeed, Romulus and Remus appear in Greek mythology as well, but they, understandably, aren't a big deal there. However, the card's design isn't consistent with the myth. If this is a bona fide allusion to R&R, then only one Wolf token should be created; there was, after all, only one she-wolf!
Unless I've forgotten my mythology, I'm pretty sure that the story of Romulus and Remus was also part of Greek mythology, in no small part because the brothers were originally Greek before founding Rome.
Huh. I thought that Theros was based on Greek, not Roman, mythology.
It is based on what the public expect to be Greek mythology. If I remember correctly, Krakens is Norse and not Greek, but most believe it is a Greek thing and it is therefore included.
All you guys thinking it's a reference to roman culture are totally wrong. It's obviously a reference to Mowgli from the Jungle Book from Disney. Now that they own WOTC i expect some tie ins. Brimaz is obviously Mufasa, so there will be more subtleties like that come up

Seems like a weird card otherwise, though.
