This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever read in my life...good ratings are what makes movies good?! whaaaa? So if someone hacked imdb, rottentomatoes, boxofficemojo, etc and changed the rating for something like 'gigli' (or whatever that terrible movie was called) or 'from justin to kelly' to a 9.8 across the board and you came across those ratings, then you would automatically start thinking that they were good movies or want to see them?
Look at all those terrible artsy movies with no plot that are essentially slice of life dramas following around mundane characters doing mundane things but for some reason the sundance circuit LOVES them and they get 8+ ratings or 4 1/2 stars. I don't care WHAT the ratings are for that trash, I'll never consider them good movies.
IMO, what makes a good movie are: writing, direction, cinematography, acting, and score. I couldn't care less what other people think about it, as long as I enjoyed it, and if I DIDN'T enjoy it, then yes, to me as an individual that makes it a bad movie.
On topic, like I said in the other thread (why 2 threads btw?) I'm hoping for either the Whispering Woods trilogy from the 90s, the Weatherlight Saga, or the Odyssey/Onslaught trilogies but unfortunately WotC loves their Jace and I'd be totally surprised if they didn't go that route.
What you just said is absurdly inane it's not even funny. If someone hacked IMDB? WTF kind of argument is that? I'm not going to suddenly think that a universally panned movie is good because someone hacked the rating.
Your second point counters your own argument. You didn't enjoy the artsy type movies so that makes them bad? If you can't recognize that a movie or any piece of entertainment movie is loved or liked by the majority of people who watched it just because YOU as an individual didn't like it, then that makes you blatantly ignorant. Opinions are one thing, stating them as fact is another. It's perfectly fine if you claim you didn't enjoy the movie, but don't ignore the fact that it gets good scores from critics AND users alike giving an overall consensus as "good" or better.
Your third point makes you seem self centered. And that's is what I'm talking about. "I didn't enjoy it so it is a bad movie." FFS that is such a dumb mindset to have.
I always thought that the RtR block, specifically Dragon's Maze, would make for a very cool movie.
I feel like Ravnica in general has a better foundation for making a movie than other planes. It'll most likely deal with Ravnica or the Phyrexians and the Skyship Weatherlight.
The movie is going to need to start out with some serious exposition about the nature of magic, mana, and the multiverse as a whole. Now, they could just use a narrator and go all "once upon a time", but I'd prefer that the explanation be given to the audience and to whomever the main character is simultaneously. I'm thinking of Jodah trying to cram a bunch o magical knowledge into the child he had with Jhoira (yay shipping) after he learns from Karn that the Phyrexians have been reborn and that they're still programmed to harass Urza's bloodline.
Jace would be a poor choice to be main character of the movie because his magic isn't very visually exciting. Also, as an inanimate piece of cardboard he's super popular, however, as a person...I have my opinion but I think someone should make a poll among Vorthoses to gauge how likable the emo little flake is can be. And speaking of Vorthos, this movie had better be canon or I'm not going to bother watching it even if it isn't terrible.
Also, I hope we have a defined main character and they don't go all Planeswalker Superfriends/Avengers brujaja on us. There isn't nearly enough established mythos among mainstream audiences to pull that off, not even close.
I think the movie if about Urza, is the perfect time to introduce as a promo, an Urza Planeswalker cars. Only usable in legacy, vintage and EDH obviously, but that would be OK since he does not belong in standard. Also, that would drive ticket sales. I will bring 3 friends to see it for a set of Urza.

Harrison Ford as Gideon.
Mila Kunis as Liliana.
There is such a wealth of awesome stories and worlds within mtg that there is a lot of cool movie opportunities here. I really want them to make this a good movie and to leave people wanting more.
The story I'm most interested is Urza vs The phyrexians, but I hope they do a prequel to address that story. The most important thing for this first movie, in my opinion, is that they bring Karn into the story, and make him a badass.
I'm calling it right now- worst rare in the set. Even good limited players will find better bombs at common and uncommon no sweat. Worst. Episode. Ever.
I really do predict this to be our worst rare in set award winner. I'd be happier opening a jar of eyeballs, so I think anything worse is highly unlikely. This card wont just have zero constructed potential, but not be significantly better than a mass of ghouls in a draft.

For the love of anything that is divine, I hope they do not do ORIGINAL STORIES and/or Dick Fayden's Flop Adventures for plot basis.

As long as the film helps the game get even more players, I'm all for it. Although personally, I probably won't touch it with a ten-foot pole.

They'd really be THE UTMOST OF STWOPID if they get the races of the major characters of current Magic Continuity wrong. FCOL, most of them are WHITE!
And most of the post-Mending stories aren't even that complicated for them to eff it up so bad.

RtR's storyline sorta kinda reminded me of the Hunger Games. I blame the whole thing with Dragon's Maze for that thought process though.
