I have a feeling that this will be far more "Battleship" and far less "G.I. Joe".
Painfully generic standard Hollywood screenplay with only the lightest brush of window dressing to relate it to the source material.
Your probably right, but I wanna try to be optimistic about this one
if its good, hurray my excitement was worth it, if not then oh well shouldve known move on lol

The true mind can weather all the lies and illusions without being lost. The true heart can tough the poison of hatred without being harmed. Since beginning-less time, darkness thrives in the void but always yields to purifying light.
I invision a future where one is not mighty when he can silence a crowd with brutality,
but when he leaves them speechless with wisdom.
Wasn't it stated that the block after next is going to have a unique block structure? They said something like they were waiting for a story/theme that fit the block structure, and it finally came.
Block after next would be releasing in 2-ish years, right? Could it be a block based on the timing of a film's release? (Perhaps a story prequal set, the movie releases, then 2 sets that have an epilogue or something?)

Is 2-ish years long enough to make a movie?
good call, nice connecting the dots! this could potentially be a cool idea

I'd like to think that the movie will coincide with the block that's being released. For example if the movie were coming out this year, I'd expect it to be about the story of Theros and be released a few weeks before Journey Into Nyx. I suppose it could also just be about the main planeswalkers and come out when Duels 2015 does.
Wizards of the Coast announced a collaboration with Lucasfilm. The planned project includes a digital enhancement of the Beta printing of the original Magic: the Gathering set with crisper card frames and new computer-aided artwork.
"I really wanted to go back and insert Jace into the original artwork for Counterspell," said an optimistic Richard Garfield. "That was my original vision. We just didn't have the technology back then to accomplish the storytelling aspects that we can now."
A spin-off television show is also in the works covering one of the fan-favorite stories in the Magic multiverse. The Brothers' War will be a computer-animated adventure airing on Cartoon Network covering the hijinks and misadventures of planeswalking siblings Urza and Mishra. No release date was given.

Something along the lines of Guillermo Del Toro's Hellboy movies. Fun; lots of good fights; colourful characters and settings; solid, workaday writing.

anyway, i really do wonder how they'll approach it. At worst it'll be Super Mario Bros and The Last Airbender level... which is pretty bad, but also wonder how they'll get into the story. I think they'll delve into the neo-walkers first, unfortunately for some people in this thread, since Jace and company are the poster 'walkers nowadays. It does seem more likely and I'm kinda disappointed because i was really interested in the old walkers' story and know like, NONE of it other than something something Urza, something something PHYREXIANS, ZOMGBBQ TIME REVERSAL Lorwyn/shadowmoor
The sad truth is that Magic doesn't really fit the movie medium unless you specifically turn each of several stories into films, as it is an ongoing story with hugely different worlds.
The Ravnica cycle of novels would be great if handled properly as a detective-story-becomes-disaster-movie; the Kamigawa cycle has potential if it focuses enough on Toshi and Michiko; anything with New Phyrexia or Return to Ravnica would be silly without its predecessor; Zendikar is just a D&D campaign with a bad ending; the Odyssey/Onslaught double block is pretty weird, but has some potential too because of the characters.
Of course they could just go full disaster movie and film Invasion or Time Spiral without anything making any sense whatsoever since everything is a reference to someone/-thing that hasn't been mentioned before.
Weatherlight (the ship and its crew, not the set) is a distinct possibility, but only if there are plans to cash in on it in regards to newer players, since everything seems to focus on NeoWalkers nowadays.
Come on guys let's be honest... Steve Bucemi will play our favorite Mind Sculptor...
Innistrad could be a cool plot line. I just feel like it wi be bad though. Magic is one of those things that's so fantasy oriented that it will be almost 100% CGI. I just don't see it turning out well, so I'll be skeptical and have low hopes.
Also, has anyone considered the Dack Fayden storyline for the movie?
People saying this is a bad idea, you know you're all gonna see it because you either want it to be good, or you want to be able to bash it on the internet. Either way they get your money. And 10 million people seeing a movie is good for business.
Here's my casting list, I tried to maintain both a sense of "I wish" blended with reality (insofar as casting actors who bear reasonable resemblance to their characters, not necessarily choosing actors who would actually take the parts), and incorporated some of the ideas I saw in earlier in the thread.
Core 5:
Jace Beleren- Andrew Garfield
Liliana Vess: Evangeline Lilly
Garruk Wildspeaker: Liev Schreiber
Chandra Nalaar: Keira Knightley
Ajani Goldmane: Voice of Liam Neeson (Let's face it, he's already voiced Aslan, what's another cat?)
Others:
Elspeth Tirel: Jennifer Lawrence
Nicol Bolas: Voice of Frank Welker (Did the voice for the "Cave of Wonders" in Aladdin.)
Tezzeret: Jason Momoa
Sarkhan Vol: Rick Yune
Nissa Revane: Mila Kunis
Sorin Markov: Benedict Cumberbatch
Gideon Jura: Hugh Jackman

I would like if they make phyrexian not only by CGI but they actually build a mechanic body.
While I doubt people will quit over this movie (I feel like someone will say it), I doubt there will be a HUGE influx of players. I'll likely go see them though.
Oh, there will be a HUGE influx of players that's a guarantee. However, how much $$ is actually spent and whether or not the players keep playing is up for speculation.
It's an instant speed 5/5 trampler for 4. Wtf do you people want seriously? It has applications in populate/ above the curve beats decks, or in Bant control/ flash. I seriously think anyone mad at this card for any reason other than losing an attacker to instant speed wurm, should go home and make their own awesome card game and leave the rest of us alone.
