The true mind can weather all the lies and illusions without being lost. The true heart can tough the poison of hatred without being harmed. Since beginning-less time, darkness thrives in the void but always yields to purifying light.
I invision a future where one is not mighty when he can silence a crowd with brutality,
but when he leaves them speechless with wisdom.
Come on guys, just because a different movie based on a different franchise was bad doesn't mean that a MtG movie would be bad. That's like saying the newest Batman movies are gonna suck because of the old Batman and Robin.
Give it a chance before shouting that it's a terrible idea.
This whole thing reminds me of An evening with Kevin Smith, when he talks about when he was working on a Superman movie FOREVER ago. And the executive says, "I want a giant spider in act three.." and then several moons later Kevin Smith watches Wild Wild West, and what shows up at the end, GIANT ROBO SPIDER!
What will be Magic the Gathering: The MOvies's giant spider?

To be more on topic, I would have been far more comfortable with Guillermo Del Torro being in charge of this movie. For a Magic movie to be good, it has to pull off its comic bookish sci-fi charm and its fantasy elements, and Del Torro has proven he can make both work in one media, at least to me. Not that I have anything against Simon Kinberg, it's just I've personally never seen any of his films that meet those prerequisites.

Gideon: Jeremy Renner
Jace: Maybe Jason Isaacs after that Vraska v. Jace artwork...
Liliana: Christina Hendricks please and thank you.
Chandra: Emma Stone maybe?
Garruk: DWAYNE "THE ROCK" JOHNSON
Voice of Bolas: Probably Hugo Weaving, though Benedict Cumberbach did a pretty great job recently voicing a dragon.
I'd be surprised if they net any A-listers for the first couple movies. But... the super-hero movies have shown celebrities where the money's at.
I am curious how they'll tie this to the card game. The comic with Dack at least visited the current plane, so you still felt like you were in-time and involved.
From a writer's perspective, it will be very difficult to make the Magic world feel established when viewers know nothing. Either there'll be a lot of exposition, or extremely shallow plots that require no attention.
What a horrible stupid idea. Did anyone see the Dungeon and Dragons movie?
It's worth noting that the second DnD (Wrath of the Dragon God), while not a great movie by any measure, was significantly better than the first.
We really all should be aware that this is something that WotC has been working on for quite a while. MaRo (I think it was MaRo anyway) has said mutliple times in the past that WotC has approaced studios in the past about making a movie, but they were getting turned down becasue didn't have any marquee characters to build a movie aroung.* The new planeswalkers were created in part to solve this problem.
Hopefully Wizards has had this on the backburner long enough that they have sufficient materials built up so that the actors and creative staff behind the movie can be properly breifed and trained. But then again as long as they're not doing what they did with the DnD movies (hadning out various manuals to the actors) they'll be doing better.
*IIRC he paraphrases the movie exec as asking, "who's your Mickey Mouse?" And the fact that they only really have background characters that require a fair amount of knoweledge about the backstory to be invested in is the dealbreaker.
Gideon: Chris Hemsworth
Garruk: The Rock (why not?)
Ajani: voiced by Liam Neeson/Benedict Cumberbatch
Elspeth: Natalie Portman/Keira Knightly
Chandra: whomever isn't Elspeth from above
Liliana: Penelope Cruz/Angelina Jolie
Jace: KEANU REEVES/Jake Gylenhall/That kid from the Percy Jackson movies
Tezzeret: whomever isn't voicing Ajani
Nicol Bolas: Morgan Freeman
In the same way you can tell someone is from the XVIII century because he is arroused by ankles, you can tell someone is from USA because he feels nipples disturbing.
tagline: just one crow against a world of sea eagle's
(really funny if you read the original Storm Crow's flavor txt. DO IT!)
EDIT: MOrgan Freeman Bolas would be HILARIOUS! but seriously, James Earl JOnes is the only real choice, at least since michael clark duncan passed away (RIP)

I love how people know that this will be bad without knowing ANYTHING about the movie itself. Gotta love the internet.
It's spoiler season. Lots of people are already pessimistic for various reasons. This just gives them one more thing to yell "jank" at. I just want to find out more. I want to know if they're going to tell a story we already know(albeit probably changed a little) or something from scratch.

This same thing happens whenever anything unorthodox is announced. It's really freaking annoying and ridiculous.

This is why they need to start on Dominaria
My guess is
1st movie : The Prodigal Sorcerer
2nd and 3rd : others pre-revisionist stories
4th to 8th : Artifact cycle : the brothers war , the thran - phyrexia war , Planeswalker (Time Streams being refered in the end)
He's already the villain of the multiverse.
Reprint Stasis!
Control needs more love.

It should be a Black Lotus, people want the reserve list taken away so they wouldn't mind a Black Lotus card for every ticket sold.
Haha I still have 4 of those Mewtwo cards. I wonder if they're still any good in the card game these days.
This
if they make Agents of artfacts He will fit...

Painfully generic standard Hollywood screenplay with only the lightest brush of window dressing to relate it to the source material.
