Yes, unfortunately. I started paying attention to spoilers with Dragon's Maze, so I have been disappointed quite a lot.
From the perspective of someone who's been paying attention to spoilers for the entirety that spoilers have been a thing:
It's okay to get excited, but it's important to remember that the power level of Magic goes in cycles. It has to, it's part of what keeps the game balanced and interesting.
Instead of expecting WotC to keep topping the cards they've done previously, instead look for cards that shake up the metagame, or that interact interestingly with decks you have, or that even spark deck ideas of their own.
By the way, if you started paying attention during Dragon's Maze.... yeaaaaah, I can see how you'd be disappointed. Magic's power level had been on an upswell since Zendikar, so your experience with the game is probably one where each set tops the previous set.

Sorry, but you don't know what you're saying about Legacy. That format is perfectly balanced, because every deck has crazy powerful cards. Maybe you should compare the top8s of Legacy events with those of some Standard metagames..
Overpowered yes, unbalanced no. Also, RTR had a lot of fine playable Legacy cards, yet they were fine in Standard
Perhaps unbalanced was the wrong word, but any format that allows for common turn 1-3 wins feels like poor design to me, and not something that Wizards should be designing cards to support.
There's a reason they created Modern and mostly stopped supporting formats more powerful than that. They recognized that access to such powerful cards makes for extremely degenerate decks.
Point is, people should stop acting so shocked when the vast majority of cards are not playable in those formats. Magic is balanced around Standard, Limited, and to a much lesser extent, Modern. I don't think Wizards pays much attention to formats like Legacy and Vintage anymore, nevermind going out of their way to print cards for them.
View the occasional playable Legacy/Vintage card that you get in recent sets as a pleasant surprise; stop acting like new sets are obligated to support old and broken formats.

I agree that it goes in cycles, but I am looking at all of the Modern playable cards in each set since 8th Edition in the Modern Playables thread in Speculation. I have gotten up to Time Spiral, and Theros has less Modern-playable cards than any Modern-legal set except for Saviors of Kamigawa. I just want Born of the Gods to do better than that.
I am looking for those kinds of cards. I just hope that they are there (Dragon's Maze actually did really well on all 3 of those fronts).
And you are right, I just hope that this really is the low point so we can start having sets like Innistrad again.

Be grateful you weren't around for Betrayers of Kamigawa. Or anything pre-Lorywn. At least we don't have as many Scornful Egotists running around now as we used to. Set designs have evolved a lot since Time Spiral shook up the averages. We now get moderately playable cards instead of garbage like Mudhole.
Sure we still get garbage cards, but in significantly lower percentages.
It's funny you mention Modern, since we had/have "degenerate" decks there too, and turn 1-3 wins are/were possible as well - that's when something gets banned.
That's why I don't play Modern either, but at least they're more inclined to ban stuff there.
I don't care that people like older formats. It's a different type of game and everyone likes different things. I just think people are setting themselves up for disappointment by expecting new cards to be playable in older formats, and annoying the rest of us by griping about each one that isn't.

Must I bring up the fact that every other large set has more Modern playable cards than Theros? And that Born of the Gods seems to be going the way of Dragon's Maze in terms of Modern playable cards?

Actually, Time Spiral and Ravnica seem like they were cool.
Seeing the other spoiled cards that say 'this card does x where x is your devotion to COLOR' I have a feeling this won't be the only "sweeper" that black gets...
I'm betting on something like:
Mass Grave
2BB
Sorcery
All creatures get -X/-X until end of turn where X is equal to your devotion to black.

That would be counterproductive. It would be more powerful if there was more of your own stuff that this would kill.
How about:
Each player sacrifices X nonland permanents where X = devotion to black?
For some reason i just feel black will be getting some kind of super-sweeper this block...
EDIT: Second thought, Lands would likely have to be included in that scenario, and since Black has moved away from land destruction for the most part, I'll go with my first prediction over this one. Obviously each color is going to get at least 1 devotion-based non-creature spell, and and the only other things I can think of that they could do would be discard-based or something like return X cards from G/Y to hand...
In control deck like U/W and Esper (which will be on this rise), this card will do a ton of heavy lifting to lower the aggro count in Standard. We will be seeing more midrange because of this card.
People were already trying to make that -1-1 card work and this is a ton better. Will be a meta game changer for sure.

That isnt' what he said, both TS and Ravinca were very well designed but Timespiral still lost players due to its insane complexity and large amount of throwback references. This caused wotc to take a look at set design which eventually caused modern set design which among other things cut back a ton of complete jank filler. A trait doctoring like cards took 3-5 rare slots every set back in the day, even ravinca block had some super janky rares that didn't really do anything even in optimal situaltions.

i'd love to sell you a longbox full of the hundreds upon hundreds of bulk commons, uncommons, and rares i have left over from opening boxes of Ravnica Block back in the day.
There must be a reason they purposely obsoleted a card that didn't need to be obsoleted, with this spell. It wasn't by accident.
Perhaps they're sending the signal "we're power-creeping non creature cards, too"? Not sure.
Or maybe they're just adjusting the power level of removal to the new power level of creature? You know, like bolt became printable again because we get 3/3 for 1 and 4/4 for 3 with upsides. Same is true with infest, the card isn't really playable anymore, and anyway, Massacre is still better in eternal formats as a SB card, while this is slightly better as a main card but whatever.
What's dumb is that we got what, 3 non-land cards that don't have creature in their text? Sigh.

I hope so! I understand them wanting to push creatures more, but it has gone pretty far in that direction recently, with most viable removal being pushed up in cost and rarity. I loved Infest, so I welcome this card with open arms and a sadistic smile!
If this is a signal, I'm going to keep my fingers crossed for an m15 reprinting of Lightning Bolt! It's the least they could do for poor, recently misaligned red.

Fixed that for you.

I'd say that it has been since Saviors of Kamigawa. If they have low-powered sets for the next 7 years to go with that, I am going to be very annoyed.

Once again, this kills your own devotion. It becomes more powerful when you have more stuff. Then it destroys that stuff.

I dont think infest was every that amazing.
I think it saw play when faires were a thing but in alara - zen it didnt get played at all.
Also for only 1 more mana you get mutilate so I dont think new card is pushing anything really.
