Bringing up Commander is a good point. Those products are MSRP $39.99 and are sold in Target and Wal-Mart. Who is to say that will not also be the case for the Modern Even Deck?
Because if you haven't been paying attention WotC only sends event decks to brick and mortar stores, not big box stores
yeah
they
send
Standard Event Decks
no word about a modern event deck.
I admire your optimism, and I won't crush that for you. Wizards will do that for me.
From the image that was posted in the other thread, It seems that it will be a B/W tokens deck.
I'm guessing the "5 double-sided tokens" will be spirit 1/1 flying and soldier 1/1 tokens.
Hopefully Target and Walmart sell a lot of these decks; then we actually might be able to purchase it at MSRP.
I doubt very much that they will be getting these for sale. The price tag alone would be restrictive to their usual clientele, and the amount of "item loss" they'd likely suffer would make it a huge headache for them.
Those Ultra Pro Sleeves and dice plus tokens will work out to be close to $15-$20 in retail. So manage your expectations wisely for an MSRP of $75. Also, take reference of Commander's Arsenal, which had the same MSRP.

I think you need to start buying sleeves and dice somewhere else- you're getting majorly ripped off.
Also... last I checked, Commander's Arsenal was worth waaaaay more than $75,
and this product has a much wider distribution,
so it will eventually reach a price equilibrium that CA never had a chance to.

I just spoke with an owner of a LGS in the area, and I told him what you said. And he replied that every magic product is limited, some more than others, and that they are sold out already of their allotted amount (and another LGS in my area haven't even started preorders lol).
The owner of that LGS is lying to you. I own a game shop in Philadelphia, and first of all: Wizards hasn't even started taking preorders on these yet. I called them this morning to check. They told me to call back in early April. The only distributor that I found that has started taking preorders is Alliance. ACD, PHD, Southern, and Wizards themselves aren't setup for preorders on these yet. I don't have an account with GTS, so I can't speak for them.
Second of all, most Magic products aren't limited, or at least not in any meaningful sense. They print them to meet expected demand (and often reprint if they fall far enough short of that mark). Stores that preorder early, and accurately anticipate demand, and stay in good standing with their distributors will get most if not all of what they preorder. If that store thinks the products are "limited", it's because they're ordering too conservatively or too late, or they're pissing off their distributors in one way or another. That said, some products are limited, like the From the Vaults and Commander's Arsenal, but the vast majority aren't.
And finally, there's no way that store knows how many they've been allocated. As I said, virtually no distributor has even started taking preorders yet, and those distributors won't have their final numbers from Wizards until a few weeks before the decks release at best. Distributors don't allocate products until they know how many they have to allocate.
I don't mark up Magic products because selling at MSRP is the right thing to do. Customers like you better for it, and a good reputation goes a long way toward selling more product, even if you don't take into consideration how many more units you're liable to sell at MSRP than you otherwise would. Scummy old-business game shops who lie to their customers and try to use supply and demand as a justification for ordering too few copies and jacking up the price go out of business all the time. Please don't think that the owner of the LGS in question speaks for local game stores in general. I have a feeling his store won't be around much longer anyway.
For genuinely limited products like From the Vault, he's right that in a very narrow short-sighted way he'll make more money marking them as high as he can get away with. If he can only get 25 either way, sure, selling 25 products at $75 each yields more direct profit than selling them at $30 each. But that extra $1125 is going to cost him a lot more business in the future. If your customers don't like you, they won't be your customers much longer.
@ empathogen: lol only time will tell whether I'm wrong... Well for the good of the community I hope I'm wrong. It's hard to be optimistic with the amount of subpar products we've gotten in the past few years... The patterns and signs are not good. I rather lower my expectations and be better for it when a truly awesome product turns up.
Redcap's Corner. I try to run a great store, but we're not without our faults (our website being one of them, though I promise we're actively working on that). It just makes me so mad when other shops go so out of their way to alienate their customers that people truly believe Walmart is the better buy. There is such a thing as a friendly local game store, and not every store has the "I can make more money off of this, so why shouldn't I?" mentality.

Can you please take over Star City Games and every other company that does this?
Hey, without Star City I couldn't have just flipped the fetches I hung onto since Zendikar for 500-900% profit
(thank you for covering the rent this month, Ben!)
But seriously, yeah, **** that *****. Supply and demand is cool and all, but when one company has that much purchasing power, the economy becomes centralized around them.
Firstly, dont turn this into another slag scg' business practices thread.
As for this seeing "decent print run" im inclined to not believe it. Other countries dont get the quantities they need to grow the game. Recent experience being overpriced mma drafts with O prize support.
Wotc crank up the supply of your products so that some stores have an incentive to sell at msrp without being fearful that they cant reorder.

I think it is a bit funny you say this. There are four LGSs in my city. This one is the closest one, around about a 15 minute drive. The next two are about a 30 minute drive, and the fourth one is about a 40 minute drive. Out of these four, one of the ones that is about a 30 minute drive is the one I go to. It has probably the largest Magic community in the area and honestly, I like the people there. The owner of the LGS in the quote above is for the store 15 minutes away. That card shop has a very small Magic community. It is more focused on Yugioh. I have been to countless FNMs and prereleases at my current LGS. As for the LGS in the quote above, I have only been to 1 prerelease, and that was it. It says something about both stores, if I would rather go to one store over the other, even though the former is twice the distance of the latter.
I have an account with GTS and I can confirm that they are NOT taking preorders for this yet. I also use Magazine Exchange, and they are the same way. WOTC won't release allocations for another week or so. It's also nice to hear that another shop owner (like myself) understands that MSRP is good for business and good for our players' community. I do the same thing at my shop and everyone that comes in is happy, and likes to come in and play. They could easily go elsewhere or play at home with friends so it's a real compliment when they make the effort to come to my. The least I can do is sell them cards at the recommended price!
MSRP is absolutely the way to go. There is no reason to gouge consumers for a product, especially if you intend to be in business for more than a hot minute. For those that say "it is stupid to leave money on the table", I'm not. I am leaving more money in my customers pocket so they can get more of the hobby/game they play. We started selling an very limited amount of these event decks yesterday on our site at MSRP and we have had a great response.

Ah, if only that were true. The oldest LGS in my area has been eliminating the regional competition for several years, though for most of its several decade history, it was a comic shop. The previous owner was shrewd, and used promotions and business savvy to get rid of other stores. He outsmarted the competition, but (from all reports) never did anything that might be considered underhanded. He died several years ago, and his son took over the business. He's not so forthright.
When another comic and gaming store opened a few years back, it started drawing their business away due to better customer relations. That shop went from Premier WotC Retailer, to Suspended (falsely accused of not distributing promos - appeal rejected), to Permanently Banned (falsely accused of distributing new product prior to 12:01 on Release Day - appeals rejected) in thirteen months. The shop is still open, since it makes most of its money from comics, but the owner isn't able to get any M:tG products that can't be found at Target. Even then, it took a month after Release to get the first case of BNG from any of its suppliers.
There are two shops regionally for me that will get the Modern Event Deck. The old LGS mentioned above will sell it at 70-90% of secondary market value, as they do all their non-booster products. The other will likely get shafted, a problem they've been having the last year or so with "secondary" distributors. They'll also mark up the product past MSRP, but I've no idea to what degree.
I may have to take a drive down I-76 to your shop the day after this Releases and pick up a copy. Of course, if it has any fetches, you might have someone offer to buy your entire stock... unless you're planning on limiting your sales to 1 per non-regular.
