Wow, so much of that last sentence is SO untrue... It's not players keeping the reserved list alive, it's hoarders... I'm sure Vintage players would love to have more people to play, just like I'd love to have more people playing legacy...
I apologize for the confusion, I did not mean to broadly target all Vintage/Legacy player, I was referring to those who are more concerned with the value of their Vintage/Legacy collection rather than the growth/health of the format and accessibility to players that haven't been playing since the beginning.
Player: "Let's open the reserve list and everyone can play and be friends! (rainbows and butterflies in the background)"
Vintage/Legacy Hoarder: "Noes! they musentiz openz this. It must alwayz be mines alones! No one else must ever have! (gloomy background while everything around them dies and fades away)"

Even still, a lot of the hoarders aren't even players of said formats, There are a LOT of people hoarding Fetchlands and Duals and they don't even play the game, they're just trying to corner the market so they can make a crapload of money. and WotC can't do anything about the reserved list anymore because of a lawsuit I guess from said hoarders.
On topic: I'm hoping to see Bitterblossom in this deck.

This might be a silly question, is there something in the reserve list that stops functional reprints?
(I realise this would give access to two lots of reserved card abilities in decks - not sure how to stop that problem)

The reserve list specifies no functional reprints as well.

Reserved cards will never be printed again in a functionally identical form. A card is considered functionally identical to another card if it has the same card type, subtypes, abilities, mana cost, power, and toughness.

If Hasbro hired decent lawyers any lawsuit would get dismissed. Excellent lawyers should be able to get one dismissed with prejudice. Such a lawsuit would be frivolous.
Any threat of a lawsuit is either coming from a blowhard nerdraging or if from a WotC/Hasbro employee is being used as a scapegoat to avoid the issue.

Not remotely frivolous. It's not a surefire win for anyone bringing it, but there is a strong argument for promissory estoppel to get passed a Motion to Dismiss.

I'm not convinced, but it's possible. But calling it "not a surefire win" is being very generous. I take it you're assuming a genuinely impartial judge and a somewhat impartial jury, which is seldom the case. Most likely scenario I see is those persons seeing someone suing over what they perceive as a child's game and one or both getting pissed for having their time wasted.

So people invested in "stock" that will never do anything but rise and they don't want that meddled with?
Imagine that.
Still, it was a foolish promise to make,
and no reasonable collector/speculator can be rightfully annoyed when their investment doesn't return a guaranteed 500% or whatever.
It's a market that's been manipulated for the benefit of a select few,
and it needs to be equalized for the long term health of the game.

At any rate, I think the modern event deck will end up being seen as a failure internally within WotC if not outside. They already cut the standard event decks from two per set to one. Another bust will hopefully be the impetus they need to focus on making a booster reprint set yearly fair rather than cranking out more high end fixed product (Premium Deck Series, Event Decks) that isn't aimed at "casual" players (Archenemy, Planechase, Duel Decks, Commander).

I don't know why people are so bummed out about the prospect of it not having a ton of modern staples....
Frankly the problem with the market is SCG and all MTG re sellers who will drive the price up of the product if it brings anything decent. This has happened to the FTV sets, Commander decks, Modern Masters and previous event decks that have had cards which market above suggested retail price.
right... but you're forgetting the fact that people are obviously prepared to pay those prices. if they weren't, SCG and others wouldn't be able to charge them.
ultimately, companies like SCG are at the whims of how much people are prepared to pay for products like these. sure, they are going to push it as far as they can within those constraints, but it still applies.

most magic players dont have tons of money, and cant afford to own full sets of duals, fetches and shocks. let alone have playsets of foil goyfs, bitterblossoms, all the swords, bobs, just about anything you can imagine. all i would have to say is screw those people. not my fault your poor and cant afford cards, while people like myself have to suffer every time they print new crap like this.
Wizards reprinting products hurts players? That makes no sense. This game is about interaction between players - not owning rare things.
While Wizards isn't willing to break their promise (the reserve list), they want to make a game, not collectible spoons.
Expecting anything else is misguided.
That would be fantastic. Its a fun deck that is both combo and interactive. Plus, it might let some more Fulminator Mages into circulation. Reprinting cards is what will keep people playing.
Wizards hatred of combo decks makes me think they'll do a fair deck. Living End doesn't have any tokens, so we'll rule that out. It's possibly Orzhov tokens or Melira Pod. The latter being more likely because they haven't banned much components of the deck despite making multiple t8s in GPs and or recent PT. Wizards probably thinks it's fair, and at the same time, fun to play with.
What's more, if the were to introduce a fetch in it, Marsh Flats wouldn't be too much to ask for. Heck, they even gave a foil Scrubland when their servers scrubbed out on MTGO. Orzhov lands are pretty safe to give/reprint it seems.
I expect to see Vendilion Clique, Spellstutter Sprite, Path to Exile, Remand and Bitterblossom in here.
I would laugh so hard if the Modern event deck is faeries, just because it shows how WotC knew it was unabnning BB and that faeries get a ton of attention in Modern.
I just hope, whatever it ends up being, that it is essentially an established Modern deck and not some 100% WotC creation. Those...those I am not a fan of.
I expect to see Vendilion Clique, Spellstutter Sprite, Path to Exile, Remand and Bitterblossom in here.
I could see this going one of two ways. On one hand, card shops will ACTUALLY sell them for $75 and it would get a lot more people into Modern. On another hand, card shops might just jack up the price to insane amounts. The total of Bitterblossom and Clique alone are $118.60 on TCG mid, and honestly, I would not be surprised if LGS charge that much.
Are you meaning there will be 8 rares in this event deck? That would seem really low considering it has an MSRP of $75.
