Abandon
noun
1.
complete lack of inhibition or restraint.
That's the satyr lifestyle. It's a temple to a lifestyle filled with a lack of inhibitions and restraint. Not Abandoned Temple
Take a look at the art in Temple of Abandon, that throne is clearly empty. I'd guess there's a dual meaning there, and Xenegos will be the only R/G god in the block.
So many people keep saying that Kiora came from Zendikar. Y'all realize the Eldrazi ravaged countless other planes right? (albeit several millennia ago)

Or, you know, they just read the whole thing through.
Quote from Planeswalker"s Guide »
The merfolk Kiora, a native of Zendikar, has been traveling the planes to strengthen her connection to the oceans' magic.

Yes, there's definitely nothing in the article to show that.
So heres a fun thought. Is kiora actually a summoner? Or is just a leviathamancer, able to commune and control denizens of the deep? Cause, otherwise, how does she exactly hope to bring these things back to Zendikar. Amd another thing, what good are creatures that live in the water going to have against titans destroying the forests and mountains? And another thing, by the time she acheieves her goals, will zendikar even still exist? Cmon, kiora think! Its first grade!

Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I fear I won't have much time to play Magic these days.
I get to watch worlds develop around me.
I get to watch great leaders, terrible oppressors, and trend setters rise and fall.
Limited, Standard, Modern, everything is a different playing field I feel I can observe, but will not actually touch.
I look forward to the stories I will hear.
And more so to the ones I will watch unfold first hand.
Isn't the unknown exciting?
I'm guessing that Xenagos art is the card art. I much prefer that to the one that is likely going on the fat pack poster. Also, that's either Anax of Cymede(don't know which is which) in the first pic with the doorway to Nyx. Second on Awesome Mogis art. I'm glad he is actually a minotaur as opposed to the other humanoid gods other than thassa. I hope Pharika is a gorgon, and Phenax is like a siren or something. There was an art that seems to depict iroas as a centaur? So hopefully the rest of the pantheon can get the nonhuman treatment.
Iroas is a Centaur, pretty much confirmed. I'm pretty sure Phenax is not a siren, in Uncharted Realms article with Ashiok causing a human/Leonin war(don't remember the name), Phenax says something about sirens that is pretty third person.
To be fair, isn't that pretty much every block? I mean there are a few exceptions, but most blocks (especially set #2) have this same plot line. Not that this is bad, because it's pretty classic story telling, and RTR block did break from that mold some after Innistrad.
Innistrad didn't fit that. Scars didn't fit, Ravnica didn't, Alara didn't, and I don't think Lorwyn did
I think he meant that the second set tends to show things going downhill, really fast.
That's the only real way to set up a block. Any 3-part story is
1) Setup, introduce characters and setting(especially in fantasy or sci-fi, because they created a different world), introduce cause of conflict
2)Rising action, conflict becomes main part of story
3)Resolution, conflict is resolved
And what's the reason between gods not being able to kill each other? In greek mythology that happened all the time, I think.
The Gods were never actually able to kill each other. They fought among themselves and were able to banish each other (including the titan that came before them), but they couldn't truely kill each other because they were immortal. This is why fighting between them was often done by proxies in the form of favored mortals/nations. Fights between Greek gods were more like Heliod banishing Erebos to the Underworld
The Myojin of Night's Reach could certainly move across the multiverse. Whilst the Myojin aren't Theros gods, they're the closest we've got to work with.
Not positive, but wasn't that only because she was exploiting the time rifts, which were later closed?
Sorry for double post, but here is the Phenax quote about Sirens
"The closest Phenax had seen to hands like these were those of a siren, thosewinged humanoid seducers that Phenax had a special fondness for"
The use of "those" makes it seem like he is appreciates the what sirens do (he is the god of deceit), but he neither is a siren or is really affiliated with them. He seems to be more interested in the Returned. I also don't think sirens would worship a god. (merfolk worship Thassa, minotaurs worship Mogis)
Technically, the Gods can take on any form they like. Iroas is a centaur, Thassa is a Triton, and Mogis is a minotaur because that is how they wish to appear. If Phenax likes harpies, he / she may choose to manifest in the form of one.
Elspeth won't become a God, because that defeats the entire purpose of the storyline. Why would she become a god and Xenagos not? They'd have just as much of a problem with that as they would Xenagos. Additionally, I doubt Ajani will die. I bet they'll team up, Ajani will reunite the cat people Leonin to befriend the people of Theros again, and they'll also "exile" Xenagos into the blind eternities so he can't be a god again once he's lost into oblivion. This ending doesn't lose any characters, leaves it open for other stories for the planeswalkers, and brings a semi-good ending to Theros. Everything else sounds like crazy speculation that we all know will never happen.

Iroas not a centaur. Well, technically not a centaur.
And I don't get the issue here. There was a vacancy, someone takes it and it's all Apocalypse Now! because of that? There was no RG god and now there is. How is that a disturbance of balance?
Isn't there always a disturbance when there is someone who wants to have parties all day every day, and then they ascend to Godhood? Maybe Xenagos will die of disease of alcohol poisoning from all of his revels.

And I don't get the issue here. There was a vacancy, someone takes it and it's all Apocalypse Now! because of that? There was no RG god and now there is. How is that a disturbance of balance?
Because the Party God doesn't play well with others.
As far as I can tell, the issue isn't about the balance between colors of mana, it's about a mortal becoming a god. Xenagos basically waltzed right into the pantheon's expensive villa, turned up the music and started krumping in the middle of their living room.
Now they're worried more people are gonna turn up to do the Harlem Shake.

It seems like the disturbance is being caused by the fact that it takes a lot of mystical power to raise him to a god, and raising it up is screwing with the natural balance of things. Additionally, the gods aren't supposed to be created by mortals, so having a mortal raise himself up to be a god is messing with the foundation of worship on Theros.
So, given the ties of Ashiok to dreams/ nightmares there's definitely some hijinks going on here. Nyx (dreams) are invading reality on this plane because of Xenagos, and a Nightmare Weaver just happens to be hanging around?
Also, despite Xenagos's desire to become a god he doesn't actually SOUND particularly evil here. The gods are all kind of dicks, and he wants to be the biggest dick around (that's a god of revelry joke right there if ever I heard one).
So (speculation!) Ashiok, an old as hell planeswalker who knows a thing or two, tells Xenagos how to ascend and, wouldn't ya know it?, it causes dreams to become substance! Well, gosh darn it, Ashiok figures this is where the fun is and sticks around.
And now for some baseless junk, maybe Ashiok IS Nyx! dun Dun DUN!
I'm disappointed that so much plot goes on between these two sets and hardly a shred of it ended up in Theros. They could have done a lot more to foreshadow some of this stuff.
So the gods were created by Theros and aren't really omnipotent or as powerful as they'd like the mortal races to believe they are, and if the mortals realised they aren't the creator gods then they'd lose their power?
Gods are fueled by their devotion, if the concept of being a "god" is simply just having enough people think you're a cool person, they'd lose devotion, and their power.
And what's the reason between gods not being able to kill each other? In greek mythology that happened all the time, I think.
Gods didn't kill each other. They couldn't, think of what they did as like a chess game against other gods, with the pieces being mortals, champions, races, manufactured wars, etc.

I'm fairly convinced that Ashiok will play a significant role in the escalation or resolution of the block. More likely the escalation, because Nightmares tend to be bad.
I think they need to up the bar on flavor and background story. innistrad seemed to have way more of both than return to ravnica and theros combined in that it actually had a plot.
all we really know about theros is that xenagos is going "Jafar" on everyone and thats about it for the overarcing plot.
Theros' worldbuilding was pretty much perfect, and it did a great job of showing off the world as a standalone set. I just think they need to work more on how the story develops through the block and how the earlier sets need to set up the storyline for the later ones.

I was thinking that myself, however, I actually liked the Kamigawa stories(the block sucked for other reasons, though I wasn't playing then)

When asking for if something was stolen on Kamigawa:
Have some irony:
They clearly like having recurring planeswalkers and I'm confident that Elsepth is a very popular planeswalker: they don't want to get rid of her yet
It'll probably be Xenagos vs Elspeth
