So Xenagos, God of Revels will probably appear in BNG (OK, as if the allied dual Gods being in BNG didn't already spoil that) and we probably have his picture.
Although the guide's sentence "Yet the paradox of divinity is that god cannot destroy—or create—god" does muck with my understanding of Erebos's origin story (I guess Theros's magic must have been involved in turning Heliod's first shadow into Erebos), the sentence "They [the gods] have been forced to confront their very nature, not as the creators of the world, but as creations of it" is making this pop into my head:
Erebos: You should know this best, Heliod. When Theros's sun first shone on you, you looked at your first shadow and you were afraid. You banished it to the Underworld. That shadow was me.
Heliod: Then Theros's sun cast a second shadow for me, and I gave up...
Erebos: I remember my first moments...how I came to be...and I do not think I am the only one in this pantheon to be born in this way. We should accept that Theros's magic had to be involved in our births...
To be fair, isn't that pretty much every block? I mean there are a few exceptions, but most blocks (especially set #2) have this same plot line. Not that this is bad, because it's pretty classic story telling, and RTR block did break from that mold some after Innistrad.
The parallels here are a lot closer that the standard generic block story. In both cases, we have a plane divided into a world-of-mortals and a world-of-gods. The mortals do something to piss off the gods, and war erupts.
Spoilers much.
I can't believe they would tell us this much about the story before the book comes out.
Pretty sure they went to e-book written by Doug in his spare time because basically no-one reads them. Not that giving away the entire story is going to help that any.
Also, that's either Anax of Cymede(don't know which is which) in the first pic with the doorway to Nyx.
Good catch - it's Cymede, and the same artist did both images.
From part 2 of a Planeswalker's Guide to Theros:
"Cymede worships Keranos primarily. She is a skilled warrior but a more powerful seer. Having herself been struck by lightning and given a glimpse of the future, Cymede is seen by some as being partly responsible for her husband's effectiveness as king. Cymede is beginning to become aware of the power of godly creatures such as nymphs. She has seen abstract glimpses of their power and feels the gods are bestowing gifts on the faithful. Because of this, the cult of Keranos is gaining a foothold in the Kolophon. Cymede has even had a special temple built on a distant mountain summit where the storms are particularly severe. During the storm season, she visits there, meditating on a silver platform."
Poor Elspeth. Even when she wins she somehow manages to lose. But yeah, that's a heck of a lot of story details for one article. It all seems pretty awesome, and I'm enjoying that this is easily the most plot-centric block since Scars of Mirrodin.
If elspeth doesn't save the day this time I will give up on her character. How many times can she fail and run away in a row and still be brought back, only to run away again. The scared little girl with superpowers is getting lame.

Which blocks would those be? The only one that comes to mind is zendikar and that's a bit of a stretch...
Elspeth is charmingly terrible at her job. I'm sure the warriors on Theros raised their eyebrows when she burst in swearing she'd totally save the day, because they heard what happened on Alara and New Phyrexia, but figured "Eh, she might not ruin everything this time."
Then her after-battle kegger turns into a homecoming parade for Xenagos and Elspeth just shrugs and smiles like "Whoops, party foul!"
Which blocks would those be? The only one that comes to mind is zendikar and that's a bit of a stretch...
I agree that it's a stretch, but:
Karona is pretty godlike, and she wrecked humanity.
Memnarch was the closest thing to a god to be found on mirrodin, and obviously wasn't on the side of the inhabitants.
Kamigawa.
The Nephilim were basically Rav's version of the gods.
TSP is a no go.
Lorwyn would be really stretching.
Alara's "god" was progenitus, and he doesn't fall into this category.
Eldrazi fit this pretty well.
I wouldn't count Karn, but eh.
I don't think inn works for this.
RTR is nowhere close.

I think he meant that the second set tends to show things going downhill, really fast.

So maybe that is Keranos in the stars above her?
Cynede is an oracle, makes since she could see a pissed off Minotaur god coming over from Nyx

Probably not, as usually the gods are rumbling over the horizon. I do agree that Pharika should look like a gorgon though.

That would be insane. A god bestowing their entire essence into one mortal? Not in a gajifahillion years.
