Pretty sure it is not a creature. Probably instant or sorcery which bobs a certain amount of cards.
Most likely costs 2 or less.
If they are going to push it, i could see this happening:
Dark Inspiration
B
Sorcery
Reveal the top 2 cards of your library and put them in your hand, lose life equal to their combined mana cost.
Can't the hint mean that it's a search your library card that let's you lose life equal to the cmc of the card?
Just throwing in some fresh ideas.
Not sure which part of the clue hints towards tutoring, but that would be a very cool card. Since Diabolic Tutor is 2BB, it would probably be something like 1BB.

After Thoughtseize and Underworld Connections, Black is indeed in dire need of efficient card tutor/draw to make use of those shining 20 life points you get at the beginning of the game.
On the other hand, it would be remarkably anti-synergistic with Read the Bones. Then again, I suppose you'd use one or the other... RtB in midrange, this in anywhing with a lower curve (where Jet also fits).

This is obviously a reference to Brine Seer, because, well, just look at this guy! he sure is confident with inspiration! 'Dark' means that card is black. The part about pain and gain is an easily recognized reference to the flavor text of Fruition. So the card is:
3B
Creature
2B, T: You gain 1 life for each Swamp on the battlefield.

Already thought about this type of a card before. Something like
Painful Tutor 1B
Sorcery
Search your library for a card, reveal that card and put it into your hand. You lose life equal to that card's converted mana cost.
This could be a fine card. A Grim Tutor type of an effect.
But instead I think the clues are pretty obvious:
Dark inspiration - this in a card-drawing instant spell in black.
Seer - you get to scry first.
Confidant, "No pain, no gain" - you lose life equal to those cards' cmc.
To sum it up, its an instant for some amount of mana that lets you scry N and then draw N cards, along with losing life equal to the cmc of those cards. In my opinion, its a pretty powerful effect, especially at instant speed.
Heroic - Whenever you cast a spell that targets Dark Seer, reveal the top card of your library and put that card into your hand. You lose life equal to its converted mana cost.

Triton Fortune Hunter in black?
I think loss of life, 1 less toughness and higher rarity isn't actually worth a 1 less cost.
Dark Tutelage is too bad. If I was WotC I would reprint the original Dark Confidant or a new tutor with CMC3, or Cruel Tutor or Grim Tutor that are playable cards and there is a demand on these cards. It is necessary only to balance the power in each color.
Fixed/Altered Bob is what I think. Seer definately says 'Scry' in my mind.
Maybe something like:
2UB
When ~ enters the battlefield, scry 2.
During your upkeep, reveal the top card of your library. Draw it and lose life equal to it's casting cost

That's basically Demonic Tutor and the life loss isn't a big enough cost, it's still too powerful.
Honestly, I don't think Demonic Tutor is too powerful card, instead, it's a nice cantrip. But Wizards do, so I realize that we won't see this particular one. And the life loss can definitly hurt, depending on what you search for
People would be going bananas if they reprinted Dark Confidant in BNG. I would go bonkers. The price on that card is ridiculous, and I can't say modern masters did much to bring it down. I'm not saying they will, but it's kind of funny that's what they make it out to sound like. I sure wouldn't mind if he was reprinted. Anything to fuel my devotion to Black.

There are too many other factors in that riddle for it to simply be a DC reprint. "Dark" and "Confidant", yes, but also "seer" and "inspiration".
Anything that tutors for two mana is just too good. It's like playing with 8 Sphinx's Rev in a deck. I'd gladly pay 3 live and 2 mana to have Rev's 5-8 in my deck. Or Verdict, when I need it. Esper now plays 4 Verdict and 4 Rev's. It would play 3 Verdict, 3 Rev and 4 this.
^This. It could be three mana and a cold five life, and it would still be very good. And again, why are we talking about tutors? Exactly what in the riddle points towards tutoring?

Can't help but think it'll be a twist on El Boberino using the new mechanics... Upkeep draw equal to your devotion to black, lose that much life? Or a bestow Bob? Heroic could work as well, but that seems a little too similar to Triton Fortune Hunter.
I can't imagine actual Dark Confidant gets a standard reprint unless WOTC has decided that the format needs to be black vs white/black weenie for the next two years. Maybe it could get some consideration in an alternate standard environment, but not one with Thoughtseize as well.
Might actually be worth noting the Inspiration reference as well... lends credence to the bigger bob theory.
How come nobody's mentioning the unusual spelling of confidant? Crossed out a and an e...
I have no idea what it could mean but it's probably an important clue.
I think it's just a way to hint towards Dark Confidant while using the word as "confident" in the sentence, but who knows?

They reprinted it as Mythic Rare in MMA, I think it's safe to assume they won't reprint it in a standard legal set.
