german names aren't canon, to me temple of abandon means "temple of empty". why? because there's an empty throne in the center of its art and the satyrs around the throne are pretty quiet... they surely aren't doing any revelry

After looking at it more and thinking about it a bit,
I *really* don't think that other god statue is Pharika. Pharika's Cure and Pharika's Mender suggest a very different appearance.
The statue lacks the ornate headgear present in those other cards.
I'm not sure what other gods would be blindfolded- perhaps Athreos or Phenax? Ephara?

I'm not trying to be clever, but unfortunately you're misinterpreting it, guys.
Abandon has two meanings:
- to leave completely and finally;
- a complete surrender to natural impulses without restraint or moderation.
The temple is referring to the latter definition; that it is a place of wild hedonism without restraint. Another name would have been "Temple of Revelry", perhaps. This fits with the satyrs, who are RG.
If it meant the former definition, then "abandon" would need to be used as an adjective, and not as a verb. Abandoned Temple, perhaps; at the very least, Temple of Abandonment. "Temple of Abandon" -- when using the word to mean something that has been deserted -- doesn't make grammatical sense. It means nothing, like saying "Temple of Empty".
Finally, a good way of determining what's really meant in situations like this, where a word has two different meanings, is to look at the card in other languages. Unfortunately, "abandon" has Latin roots, so Romantic languages will have the same problem of dual-meaning, but German does not. The German is "Tempel der Unbekümmertheit", which translates as "Temple of Recklessness".
This would suggest that either there is supposed to be a double meaning to the name in the way the art was commissioned or that an artist misunderstood the name.
This would suggest that either there is supposed to be a double meaning to the name in the way the art was commissioned or that an artist misunderstood the name.
And misunderstood the art description? We've seen time and again that Wizards commissions all arts with a specificity that borders on painting it themselves. Not only that, but then the artists send in a sketch, which must be approved, and then paints the final picture, which also must be approved. Basically, the only way it could mean an "abandoned temple" is for the double meaning.

The temple is referring to the latter definition;
That was exactly my point, I wasn't misinterpreting it, unless we are both misenterpreting it the same way :>
BTW I wouldn't use a translation as proof of anything, I don't know how things go in Germany, here in Italy we have weird translations, like:
Lightning Strike -> Colpo di Fulmine (it's idiomatic, it's meaning is "love at first sight")
Griptide -> Presa della corrente (meaning "socket-outlet"/"wall plug")
So, all in all, who (in general) is more powerful:
A) A planeswalker B) A God
On Theros, the gods' power is absolute. They can effortlessly smack around any planeswalker who steps to them. The trouble with being a god is you can't leave Theros and the advantage to being a planeswalker is getting to travel anywhere in the multiverse.
In regards to sheer power I'd say god, but considering that Planeswalkers work on an entirely different level I'd say overall Planeswalkers has the most potential.
Albeit this is just my interpretation and I have little to support it.
I think it's very likely that the empty throne in the picture is deliberate, and a way of showing that there's no RG god. It's the centrepiece of the entire picture, and WotC are too careful with their art to let that slip by.
My problem is with people misinterpreting the name, when the way they are trying to interpret it literally makes no grammatical sense.
Well, people are parsing it as though it were Temple of Abandonment, but that word doesn't have the meaning of "mindless revelry," which is what Theros red-green is about.
There is a statue of an unfamiliar god in the background of that art and also of the mountain that Xenagos is exploding out of in his Born of the Gods "initial ascension" art, so maybe that's the one he kills and replaces?
All these semantics about Temple of Abandon, sheesh.
Isn't it more likely they realized they could have a double meaning and went with it?
There is no red-green god because the combination of red and green doesn't have much use for one on Theros, and therefore the spot is ABANDONed.
Satyrs are hedonists and like to live their lives with reckless ABANDON.
If we assume it's legit, Ephara looks a lot like this;
It is my understanding that is a thing that was commissioned by GTS, the distributor, to give out to stores as a thanks for ordering a certain amount of product.
It is NOT official, and you can kind of tell from looking at it since there are large parts of shadow on her body that have no visible starfield upon them.

Yeah, I was hoping to God(s) for a while there that it'd be real (because it's so freaking gorgeous), but based on the circumstances and the stars being a little off, it's apparently just a really, really good riff on Theros. /sadness /startsplanninghisEpharaalteralready

that's not what happened at all. kamahl stabbed phage, akroma, and some old lady and they became korona. then korona got stabbed by her "prophets" and kamahl got drunk with a mutant centaur
Which Gods do we think they'll have in Born of the Gods? I reckon it'll be for the five colour pairs that didn't get lands in Theros, with their respective Temples to complete the dual land cycle.
So that'd be Mogis, Pharika, Keranos, Karametra and Ephara?
Iroas is pretty much confirmed as he appeared on the art for BNG.
Could be enemy in BNG and ally in JOU... Something tells me they don't want to favor either side anymore after printing GTC duals first.
They put the GTC duals first just to give those guild colours the spotlight after the RTR pairs for more attention this time last year.
I could see the next five duals being spread out the same way the DKA and AVR ability lands were, but then again last time the cycle was unbalanced because AVR was drafted on its own, which kind of compensated (or probably overcompensated) for the extended period of time that DKA was on the market.
Basically, if you want to open packs to get cards for Standard and Modern, the simpler approach is to just buy all the singles you need and then set some money on fire to make up the difference.
solid researched argument? in every other language is translated as "temple of abandonment", so i don't see why german should count more.
also it's pretty clear that there is no GR god now, because his/her name doesn't appear in any flavor text or card's name, unlike the other nine minor gods.
They could be setting up for some huge reveal, like an old planeswalker or legendary creature that became the minor god and then planeswalked away only to return later... Sarkhan Vol, freed from Nicol Bolas's mind control, perhaps?
I hardly think that "no mention of" a minor god means that one doesn't exist... after all, there is a RG temple.
