Xenagos doesn't want to be able to travel the multiverse and explore, he wants the pure rush of divine power.
You have a point-
I was focusing a bit too much on the part where he became "disillusioned" by the fact the gods of Theros had no reach beyond that plane.
It would seem he is complaining about the gods while simultaneously aspiring to become one-
It kinda reminds me of that episode of South Park where Satan throws a Halloween party and forbids anyone from dressing as The Crow because it's "lame,"
when he really just wanted it all to himself.
It's also possible that, being a planeswalker, he may consider himself more "worthy" of godhood than the non-planeswalking gods they currently have.

While that might be true, from what WotC has said, it seems like his desire to be a God is more out of wanting to be a big fish in a small pond, than anything else.
I thought I read somewhere that he was an offspring of a god? Was that a rumor or did I read that on WotC backed site? (I really need to start writing these things down! lol)

No; that was people using the word "demigod" wrong, and then other people not understanding the original context.

Xenagos sure looks like he's turning blacker by the set. I suppose he's trying to absorb the power of the gods and by the time journey to nyx comes around he's already gobbled Erebos and Pharika.
Now, two white planeswalker face off with him. They pay W, cast path to exile and Xenagos leaves a enchantment - mountain in his place.
For me it looks more like Xenagos gets "possessed" by a stronger power (maybe Nicol Bolas anyone? , would at least give me a reason for Ajani to appear).
I'm not a fan of having Nicol Bolas behind every plot, but hey, it could fit... So far we have 3 walkers in Theros: white, green/red and blue/black, covering all five colors. If Ajani ends up being the first green/white planeswalker (which most people think), that leaves blue, black and red for the last one (and you see, those are Bolas' colors).
The R/G god is likely missing (hence temple of abandon). I could see Xenagos simply taking his place. I think the Gods are simply those who found a way to ascend to Nyx. I would imagine Xenagos feels that if he were to ascend into Nyx, he would be more powerful than all of the gods. The purpose in doing this? Making his own corner of the multiverse? Turning Theros into a world that worships one god, him.
The fact that in the Born of the gods image Xenagos sprouts from a mountain in what looks like an Akroan polis, would mesh with the idea that purphoros would be the first god Xenagos challenges and replaces.
The R/G god is likely missing (hence temple of abandon).
Pretty sure the "abandon" in Temple of Abandon is a noun, not a verb. Ie, it has nothing to do with the temple being abandoned/vacant, and everything to do with carefree revelry.
Maybe the actual card has those card types: Legendary Enchantment Land Creature - Mountain God:D
if you have 5 or less mountain, he isnt a mountain.

I don't think Xenagos will be doing too much usurping (at least not until Elspeht and Ajani have a showdown with him). Just because he's bursting out of a mountain does not mean he's usurping Purphuros. He is a red planeswalker and what produces red mana? Oh yeah, mountains. He could use a forest, but a giant goat man bursting out of a woods has about 100 less badass points than bursting out of a mountain.
Likewise, Pharika's and Erebos's statues being destroyed does not mean he'll be taking them down. By the looks of things, Xenagos is fighting Ajani and Elspeth as they fight on the ruins of a temple he recently desecrated. Also, having Erebos's head there could simply imply that Xenagos is immortal and Pharika's statue means that there is no way to stop (or cure) him (the disease).
On a side note, I could see him moving towards B/R in the next two sets as he is VERY power hungry and envious, not to mention the fact that he already shares a lot with Rakdos ideals, and little with the usual R/G ideals.

“A man's at odds to know his mind cause his mind is aught he has to know it with. He can know his heart, but he dont want to. Rightly so. Best not to look in there. It aint the heart of a creature that is bound in the way that God has set for it. You can find meanness in the least of creatures, but when God made man the devil was at his elbow. A creature that can do anything. Make a machine. And a machine to make the machine. And evil that can run itself a thousand years, no need to tend it.”
― Cormac McCarthy, Blood Meridian, or the Evening Redness in the West
Okay, so Temple of Abandon means Temple of Recklessness.
That doesn't change the fact that the RG god could have just up and left. If the god represents abandon, perhaps he completely surrendered to a natural impulse to leave.
Also, if the people that are supposed to worship the god aren't because theres no natural impulse to do so, the god of abandon wouldn't have any power would he? (no devotion)

See, the thing is Purphoros's love for Nylea was supposedly unrequited. Which means they never got it on.
If he's the offspring of any god it's likely Heliod, because that makes the most sense storywise.

Maybe this is why there has been no mention of a red-green god, because there is none, because there aren't enough devoted to the idea of one.
