OH MY GOD! I CANNOT WAIT! SCREW THEROS BLOCK, SCREW COMMANDER, SCREW ANYTHING THAT ISN'T A NECESSITY, BECAUSE IT'S ALL GETTING SAVED UP FOR THIS. And no, I don't care if I'm a "fish taking the bait", I want to play my favorite format in a sanctioned environment, aka, not just cockatrice.

I can't believe people are upset at this. If this draft format is anything like MMA I'm going to be psyched! They could do vintage master PTQs online like they do MMA, vintage daily events, it could be awesome. Vintage is basically dead IRL, so moving it to the matrix is the best option short of abolishing the reserve list (won't ever happend :()

Want to Cube but don't have one? Check the map if anyone is in your area and get cubing!
I can only pray the get rid of the reserved list. Yes many cards I own will take a hit, but at least I would have a place to use them again if at least my duals were reprinted. Since i am never getting rid of them, they could be a penny a piece and I wouldnt care.

RIP Batman guy. I hope somebody picks up the slack now that you are gone. Sick children need their Batman.
I saw a classic daily struggle just to launch with 16 people a few days ago, and they're lucky it even launched at all. I can't see vintage being all that much popular, and the expense of it isn't going to help. I don't think the p9 will be crazy expensive though, the mtgo market has always been more supply/demand than paper, and the bots go a long way towards that, not to mention that all is restricted so you only need 1 of each for all your decks. I bet duals will be more expensive than them.
Yeah, I am not going to play this. Make it in paper and I will be all over it, but this ridiculous pricing on MODO has gone over the top, this is why I stopped playing.
This has NOT been a good year for anyone who actually considering spending any significant amount of time playing on MTGO.
They've flattened payouts.
They've added an additional $20 to set redemption.
They've removed almost any draft option that could be played without needing additional tix.
They've made a stupid, arbitrary divide by creating and paying out in Phantom Tix.
Then they made Modern Masters a non-redeemable product while keeping premium pricing.
Now they're creating Vintage Masters and tacking on premium pricing. But honestly, save for stuffing Power 9 cards in a "special slot", how are these ANY different than ME1-4? Why should we have to pay an extra 3 a pack, an extra 9 a draft, an extra 18 per sealed?
I've tried to explain to people the value that MTGO can have- both as a primary avenue to play, or a way to supplement paper play, but they just keep making it harder and harder to actually do so.
It's just been all take and no give... which is probably why I've been opening the client less and less these days.
Plus its not like they have to pay anyone to make these packs. They dont go to a printer, distributor, stores. Each would normally take a piece of the action so to speak. This set is 100% profit for Wizards. Each 7$ booster you buy goes right into Wizards pockets. They just copy paste some code and boom, infinite boosters they can sell at 7$ each.
I came to laugh at the incessant hyperbolic whining. Was not disappointed.
Can't wait to see what all they're including aside from the power 9. Wizards were at the top of their game with the modern masters draft format, hopefully vintage masters follows suit.

Yep. Especially after all the BS about how "The Power 9 is going to be on MTGO, and will be released this year, as soon as we figure out a way that's epic enough".
Yeah, selling packs of what's basically a cube with crap creatures is really epic, huh?

Thing is, is it really hyperbolic? What has Wizards done lately on MTGO that's been to the player's benefit moreso than Wizards?
In this thread: Lots of people who apparently wouldn't pay $7 for real life packs of P9. I'm assuming all of these people never buy any packs in real life or MTGO whatsoever, because whatever they're getting in their $4 packs isn't even close to the value of what they'd be getting in $7 P9 packs.
In fact, it seems like there are about three total people who are excited about this. Everyone else seems to be having a fit over the fact that Wizards isn't printing out $500 bills for them to buy in real life.
Thing is, is it really hyperbolic? What has Wizards done lately on MTGO that's been to the player's benefit moreso than Wizards?
Yes, it really is. Everybody's whigging out about how Wizards is somehow screwing them by printing this online and not in paper. This release hurts, quite literally, nobody. If you don't want to buy it, then just don't buy it. Why try to spoil it for those people who will actually enjoy it? Would you rather Wizards just released nothing so that nobody would get to be happy?
MM was amazing to draft, I expect this will be too (hopefully even more complex!). Would love to do some of this in paper; I don't really use MTGO so I guess cockatrice will have to suffice.
Modern masters raised/lowered the rarity of cards as needed to help the limited environment, I don't see how this set would be different in that respect.
I can't imagine a healthy limited environment where Hymn is a common.
He was asking "if", so clearly it's a speculative question.
While it's clearly a speculative question, it was unclear which part was speculative when read in context. The previous sentence said "If this is going to be a draft format", when it has been confirmed that Vintage Masters will be drafted.
Thanks for posting just to adjust your monocle, though, smartypants.
I don't know if WOTC has said that this will never happen or if this is something that people on here have discussed in depth (so stop me if either of those is true).
Has anyone explored the idea of sanctioned paper proxy tournaments where you are required to register a deck on MTGO to enter? This would functionally remove the restricted list without printing paper versions of the cards. I feel like the implementation might be weird at first but definitely not impossible to figure out.
If a system like this emerged then announcements like Vintage Masters would be a lot more interesting... at least for me.
Well this is an announcement that is extremely unimportant. If this was done in a real paper version instead of "online only" then maybe more people would care about it. Real cards are where it's at.
You sir lack any kind of foresight it would seem.
Vintage and legacy are going to become more and more active online formats in the future, because of the nature of digital products:
-Anything related to reserve list doesn't apply.
-No availability issues.
-No counterfeiting/fakes of expensive cards
-No card loss, degradation or theft
-Pricing will be far more lower than cardboard product
-Easier to find people to play with
-Rebirth of limited make popularity soar
-etc
Real cards are where it's not IMO. I was never interested in vintage / legacy because it's hard to find people to play with, but online, I'd definitely do it knowing that every day I could join a daily or draft...I'm certainly not alone like that. I'd sell my cardboard and buy tix with it...
Too bad it's online only or I might care. I don't want to pay 7$ on virtual cards. I would pay 7$ for these and be generally excited if it was real but I'm not attracted to fake cards.
Breaking news.
There will be no Tibalt, Tamiyo, Tezzeret, Garruk, Chandra, Liliana, mini-Jace, big-Jace, Garruk again, or Sarkhan in Theros either.
There will also be no Black Lotus.
