Giving out duals to players isn't beneficial to players? Who knew?

Oh, you mean incrementing a counter on an account so that your manufactured shortage of a key card for a format that on MTGO has issues firing a queue more than once or twice a day is lessened and maybe it'll fire a little more? Wow, such philanthropy!
I would like to be one of the few to say that I am excited about this! I loved drafting the powered cube when it was available (my first chance to play with the Power 9). Although I may or may not decide to play Vintage, I love playing on MTGO and drafting a set like this should be fun!
And to those who have expressed displeasure in the fact that Wizards has previously said they wanted to release the P9 in 2013 I say this: I would rather they do the release "right" than just release the cards to buy individually or in an under-developed set. Just as I prefer any video game I'm interested in to be delayed rather than to release "on-time" but be an inferior product.

Were they requires to give out $30+ dollar cards (or $100+ in the case of FoW)? No. They gave out cards to players that were worth a fair amount. If you don't think they are doing anything for players you are beyond stupid.

Really, so you'd have just lined up with all the other people to grind your way into a MOCS even when the season's promo was say, Supreme Verdict, Lotus Cobra and Minds Eye? Right?
Never mind that in that patch of "lesser" MOCS promos they also lessened the viability and profitablity of grinding by changing payout, making it unprofitable for players to redeem sets, and then just recently killed the profitability of release queues for many players.
But yeah, they're giving away more valuable MOCS promos to people who qualify by playing lots and lots of Magic Online purely out of the milk of human kindness.
I'm of course speculating, but it seems like a perfect fit in a common from a set called Vintage Masters.
Just like Modern Master would obviously contain Path to Exile, Spellstutter Sprite, Thoughts... Nevermind
Oh, I wouldn't be surprised if Hymn was in Vintage Masters, but it would rock Pauper if it was at common.
If they include the cards in this that need price dropping enough to make the format playable then this will be awesome.
I can reliably see Workshop, Wasteland or Strip Mine, Force of Will, Force Spike and other cards like that being in this set. Time to start socking money away even more than I already was.

I would guarantee that they had far more queues firing as a result of people trying to get QPs for the dual lands than normal. Plus, since there's basically no way to get the cards from WOTC themselves, they lose nothing giving them away. It's actually more charitable when they give away inferior, cheaper cards that are standard legal, as they're potentially losing themselves packs (if anyone actually opens packs online). Also, if they keep it up, they may manage to get a few more people to queue for Legacy events, bringing in more money.
10 commons
3 uncommons
1 rare or mythic rare
1 premium foil card (any rarity, including the extremely rare premium foil Power Nine card), OR 1 Power Nine card
Am I reading this correctly when they say the P9 will take the foil slot? Doesn't this make a regular P9 even rarer than a foil mythic? I can see this being a big barrier to entry for Vintage constructed, seeing as 6/9 of the P9 are essential in every Vintage deck.
I mean, it's nice that Wizards is doing this, since it means more Vintage. It still isn't enough for me to play Modo, but it would take a lot for me to go digital.

This is so far and away better than releasing these cards as a FTV-type set, it's not even funny. I can't wait to see what the rest of the list looks like and I look forward to drafting the hell out of it.
And for those who wonder why WOTC is charging $6-7/pack for infinitely repeatable digital code, consider that the limited design costs money. Furthermore, this will be a really unique limited environment that will only be playable on MTGO.

I see your point, but look at it from a more disgruntled player's viewpoint. A Dual Land or FoW costs Wizards the same as the Dimir Charm they gave to me as a new player a month ago.
The only way to acquire Duals or FoW on MTGO (or paper) is second-hand as Wizards doesn't deal directly in singles. Giving out a Draft Set, Sealed Event Pack, Event Tickets, EDH 2013 deck.. now those items have actual value to Wizards' bottom line. They are in the online store. Everyone they give out is another potential sale lost.
Note: not a disgruntled player, but I understand the ire coming from individuals who put a lot of money into an online game that prints money.
Because a lot of ppl don't play mtg online. Or even care about online magic. Thus it's irrelevant to them. I agree. I can care less about this.
You can care less? So you care a little?
Anyway, that's still an absurd stance to take. Just say nothing or be happy for the online players. Plenty of online players don't play paper, just so you know, and the vast majority of serious players play MTGO for more practice time.
Rebranding? If Master's Edition ___ wasn't already Legacy Masters, they'd have released that too. Modern Masters was huge, so it will probably be the title they use for such products for a while.

Plenty do and SCG is promoting/posting videos of pros/staff playing on there. Online magic is a great way to test. Due to the speed and availability. They actually make more money then paper in regards to scale. yes, you can care less - good for you. Times are changing. yes it is a pain to buy 2 collections. It is not for everyone.

They do something online players have been clamoring for ages, in order to actually make it possible to play Vintage in there. And people complain about how stupid WotC is that they're not doing this IRL as well.
Oh, people sometimes.
This is something for online players. If it's not for you, it's not for you. No need to be a jerk and try to rain on someone else's parade.
This is one of these times i really wanted to play MTGO and also one of these moments that i curse the R List >(
I would like to play vintage in real life ... why can't them modify the R List rules to alow a low number of reprints per year

How is digital Magic irrelevant?

As would Sinkhole at common. Hey, go big or go home, right?

I buy HP and Damaged cards!
Only EDH:
Sigarda, Host of Herons: Enchantress' Enchantments
Jenara, Asura of War: ETB Value Town
Purphoros, God of the Forge: Global Punishment
Xenagos, God of Revels: Ramp, Sneak, & Heavy Hitters
Ghave, Guru of Spores: Dies_to_Doom_Blade's stax list
