North America gets 21 (-3)
Europe gets 12 (+2)
Asia-Pacific gets 9 (+5)
South America gets 4 (+2)
- Prize payout up for all events; larger events get more prizes and pay to more participants
- No Saturday registration for any GPs
- No Byes for Team GPs
- Team Sealed Day 2 will be fresh Sealed decks to the Top 4,then Team draft Top 4

November 14-16, New Jersey, USA... I could see Rhode Island being downgraded from a State to a City, but the ocean hasn't reclaimed that much of the Garden State yet.

May your games be chaotic and your decks be Rogue.
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.
Well like anything that changes and fluctuates there are positives and negatives. The first worthwhile positive I can see is the pay structure increase. It's about time that more players have the option of making some money on day 2. Even if it takes a large amount of players to do so. No mention of changes to Pro points being handed out to top players so I think we can assume no change there. The elimination of Saturday registration is definitely one change that I'm not sure how I feel. Starting the GP on time Saturday is paramount, but not giving people the chance to show up and register? There has to be a decent amount of people that this would disadvantage? (Even with online registration.) And 3 less North America GPs? I think that sucks a bit even though there's 6 more this upcoming year than 2013.
And Savia, the article says Batterskull for ALL of 2014. Not just the first half. While I look forward to getting that Alt Art foil batterskull, but a split like 2013 (Prime Time and All Is Dust) seems much neater.

5 in Europe in the first half and only barcelona - modern and paris - legacy are attractive
the other being team sealed, sealed and block contructed.
This may be a result of the scaling prize structure. If I recall correctly, Germany's been an issue for them and other TCG companies in the past, with physical prizes having to be used instead of cash.
I'm surprised it took so long for someone to make a thread about this.
Only two Legacy GPs? Laaaaaaaame!
there will be a time very soon, when there will be not a single legacy gp. wotc is dropping legacy more an more as a supported format. soon we will only have: standard, modern and limited as supported formats.
Seems like a pretty good list of GPs. Adding prizes to the bottom seems like a possible loophole to some countries laws that would prohibit it (although stricter countries probably still block it).
I wish I had a viable Team Sealed near me, Providence was a blast this year but as an American I get more GPs than most so I can't complain.
EDIT: Someone questioned why the GP New Jersey is called as such, its probably because either they are still working on the venue or its a no name kind of place like Somerville (where SCG had their invitational this past time).
Well, at least the one GP within 5 hours is Team Sealed. The other are Standard, which is a crapshoot until the meta and sets are released. At least i have 9+ months to plan at this point.
As far as I remember, there was a GP 2012 in Bochum. 2011 there was none and 2010 in Hamburg or Bochum. The trouble starts 2009 or 2010. The prizes in 2012 were lots of booster boxes for the $300 places and air flight + hotel registration and something like that for the winner. For regular players the booster-box prizes where nice, cause even if you sell them undercosted (like 70€ instead of 80€ you had an higher payout). But everything beyond that was just awfull.
According to the law, magic is gambling, and in order to keep the monopol for gambling at the state, there is no gambling for money payout allowed.
Since I live in the south east of germany, Praque is about 2hr away and even closer to me that something like Bochum or Hamburg. Everything more in the west is very far away. Vienna seems okay but I dont get it this year. But next year in march seems like a good option.
To be fair, there may be hope for MtG in Germany, it seems the Schleswig Holstein area of Germany did not sign on to the new gambling laws and is allowing private operators to run stuff. Yes it was later repealed, but the licenses are still in effect. Maybe a GP in this area is the future?
Really good news, i'm super excited!: This year we have a GP here in Santiago(Chile) on Nov 1-2-3 and we got other GP next year. Two years in a row??, terrific!!. Buenos Aires(Argentina) and Sao Paulo(Brazil) are really near too. I can see me playing 4 GP in a year. Super Happy. Please, cry with me, haha
Its just great to hear Wizards cut another physical promo. It feels like wizards just hates physical players. Best promos we can make you are standard junk that you wont ever play or if you will its a year too late, yet MTGO gets Underground Seas and Force of Will.
Seriously, can the midwest get a limited grand prix? I'm pretty sure the last one we've had was GP Minneapolis in 2009. We've had the modern grand prix for like 4 years in a row...
I dont really understand why this law affects a magic tournament.
Other tournaments, all sorts of sports and similiar have cash prizes too and are possible in germany...
also would it be so hard to award magic cards instead of cash prizes.......
I know in my region in Germany there was a local magic legacy tournament last month that did have cash prizes.
which sorts of sports do you mean? also sports is not considered gambling.
but i dont get why the magic people are not able, to abuse the law like everyone else does.
i mean there are sportbetting shops on every corner. also there are poker tournaments all over the place and so on..... why are magic tournaments affected by this law, noone else cares for?
Nj legacy gp chance for the largest legacy event ever?

GP Vegas: It was once in a lifetime!
On Vault of the Archangel
Technically we get semi standard through block constructed, not quite as good but it'll do
Also, no not manchester and london, London and Edinburgh would be better, you know, so Scottish people don't all have to travel 200 miles.
This may be a result of the scaling prize structure. If I recall correctly, Germany's been an issue for them and other TCG companies in the past, with physical prizes having to be used instead of cash.
I would expect GP: Vegas II in 2015.
Current post- Grand Prix KC Modern Postmortem (7/7/13)
The changes are good, but I'm unexcited about the schedule - the closest Limited GP for me is Warzaw
Edit: nevermind, Utrecht is limited. So that one's closer.

i wish i would live in southern germany, so vienna wouldnt be too far away^^
They are however scheduling events in places like Vienna and Strasbourg to try and serve the German market.

They said they are doing 1 MM GP, period. Just one. That one was Vegas. Though I wouldnt doubt for the next MM set we see more GPs for it.

I wasn't going to go since this is during finals weekend, but this thing looks like a freaking tremor, now I guess I will.
They make the most money on sealed GPs.
