As Identity Nemesis enters the battlefield, choose a player.
Identity Nemesis has protection from that player. (This creature cannot be blocked, targeted, damaged or enchanted by a source controlled by that player.)
Wow!! That's new. So, this guy is a Merfolk, is cheap, has good power, unblockable and extremely hard to kill. I wonder if this guy might actually see Legacy play? I hear Merfolk is a big deck there.
One of the better cards of the set so far. I wonder if it will be good enough for Legacy. Only way to kill it is to give all creatures -1/-1, wipe the board, or cause them to sack it. Beyond that, it is a beast that can provide a very quick clock with the right assistance.

RIP Batman guy. I hope somebody picks up the slack now that you are gone. Sick children need their Batman.
I interprete protection from player only does this:
gives hexproof to targeted instants and sorceries but does not give hexproof to acitvation of things like Icy Manipulator or ETB effects like Acidic Slime because in all these cases the source is the permanent and not the player.
Prevents all damage from global effects controlled by the player like Pyroclasm.
It can still be blocked by creatures the player controls.
Not sure this is playable in legacy merfolk, I doubt it.
Sure it is good with Jitte and counters already on it but every creature that has a jittte and counters on it is a big pain.
The card literally says "sources controlled by that player". Icy Manipulator, Acidic Slime, etc. are all sources controlled by that player so this card is protected against them. Literally the only thing that kills this dude are sac effects and wrath effects (global bounce like an overloaded Cyclonic Rfit should work......I think.)
Also, note that it can be targeted/damaged/etc while his ability is in the stack and the player hasn't be chosen.
There is no chance to damage it once it comes off the stack, as the choosing of a player is "As it enters the battlefield" as opposed to "When it enters the battlefield".
What. It's like they interviewed me personally and asked, "what thing would you like for your Sygg, River Cutthroat deck? Oh I see, 3 power, unblockable and a rogue. Got it."

-This signature intentionally left blank to increase general intrigue and mystery-
Those are still effects controlled by your opponent. In 1v1, this is just a 3/1 Invisible Stalker that also takes no damage when blocking and can't get pacified by Zur or Sun Titan.
Kind of funny that it is also decent against insurrection, your creatures can still block it if you voltron it up.
Seems really powerful. If you're playing a multiplayer game, the chosen player is going to be begging the others to kill it. I like it for Legacy Merfolk.
Also.
This raises questions about Progenitus. Since the big Hydra has protection from everything, isn't a player considered everything now? Since it's part of a protection now? I think it should be included now that this is a card.

That doesn't actually change anything about Progenitus.
Wizards print good rares, players complain about cash grab. They print underwhelming rares, players complain that the cards suck. They spoil the best cards first, players complain about the insane prices of preorders. They spoil the meh cards first, players complain that this is the worst set ever.
So. I think I understand now.
As far as these forums are concerned, WotC can never do anything good because:
Card that is new and probably good = "pushed"
Card that is new and probably bad = "EDH/casual fodder"
Card that is a reprint = "lazy"
Card that is a better version of an older card = "power creep"
Card that is a weaker version of an older card = "worthless"
Does that about sum things up?

No, because Pyroclasm is a source of damage controlled by the chosen player.

I expect this to start popping up in our Legacy group come November 1st. That thing's going to be annoying with a Jitte on it.

Man... that's even better than protection from all colors and artifacts in a duel, and it's on a 3/1?
Besides sac effects and wraths, there's no easy way to stop it.
In a duel, barring stuff like running your own Pyroclasm, is it identical to Progenitus's ability? Are there corner cases where it's not?
There is no chance to damage it once it comes off the stack, as the choosing of a player is "As it enters the battlefield" as opposed to "When it enters the battlefield".
See Phyrexian revoker and Pithing needle to see how exactly the ability functions.

but it has the "hexproof" version of Progenitus ability.
this guy is bananas.
I can see it replacing Geist of Saint Traft in every legacy deck that plays it.
