i want to build sydri just because of the art. no other reason. just the art. i don't even know what i could do with the deck. maybe a pillowfort/stax that just gets out a bunch of artifacts and animates them after the board is clear. i don't know, but the art is way too good for that card to just sit in my binder full of legends collecting dust.
Is it just me, or does Sydri actually have a shot at being playable in Vintage (but not Legacy)? Restrictive colours, yes, but she's cheap enough, and pop all the Moxen, here I come! It's also nice to be able to Swords to PlowsharesTime Vault.
Ye old Mox Monkey strikes me as a far better suited for the job.
Curse of Inertia, Diviner Spirit -- More political cards! Hooray!
Surveyor's Scope also offers a much-needed reprieve to those poor ramp-less non-green decks. It's pretty cleverly worded to help those decks specifically too. I could see some swinginess issues, though -- say, a larger multiplayer game, and the last person in turn order drops this turn 3 pre-land drop, and gets 3-5 lands plus their drop. It's kind of a niche case, but still a bit annoying.
Artificer is ok. Don't really see the appeal or use, but it's a respectable artifact general without Sharuum's stigma. She'd be a bit more interesting if she was an artefact creature herself, but there's prolly not enough room on that type box.

Ye olde Mox Monkey is red (and is not a good enough reason alone to splash red). Ye olde Karn, Silver Golem's converted mana cost is 2 more than Sydri's. I believe Sydri may have a niche in Vintage (and turning your Sol Ring into a supreme blocker is funny).
I'd run that spirit with Notion Thief, Plagiarize, Underworld Dreams, Consecrated Sphinx and/or our new grixis lich friend. Not terribly fond of the esper legend beyond minor political games you can play by granting another player a surprise deathtouch blocker. Art is indeed nice though. I'm actually not impressed by that explorer's scope. Could be because I'm usually running things like Land Tax and Azusa, Lost but Seeking. The curse is okay, pretty sure it's safe to assume that's going to be in the bant deck.
I never get how to abuse or use cards like this. The whole turning noncreature artifacts into creatures doesn't really appeal to me. What type of combos does a card like this bring to the table? The second ability is cool, if you are really into artifact creatures.
Mycosynth Lattice turns her first ability into U: Destroy target land.

Yes sir, I take fantasy art and character design commissions, PM me for rates.
Given the Uncharted Realms story she was derived from, I'm surprised Sydri's not an Assassin. Although the black element certainly makes sense. (And, in a strange way, the white...)
I'm not sure if she's supposed to be from any of the planes we've had a block regarding, though. Names are wrong for Theros, there's no High City in Innistrad, Zendikar, or Ravnica, and this DEFINITELY isn't Mirrodin. MAYBE Bant after the Conflux let black mana back in, but it's doubtful.

I take this back, I thought it was like Land Tax and was for ONE or more. :/
You can manipulate the land count a little bit using fetchlands of various sorts (sac the fetchland, bringing your land count down, and activate it in response)
Or the borderposts or the karoo lands, or Crop rotation
If the play goes like this: 4 player game, you play last
turn 1
-each other play plays 1 nonbouncing land. (they have 1 each)
-You play any land. (you have 1)
turn 2
-everyone else plays a second land (they each have 2)
- you play a karoo land, bouncing your other land (you have 1 land)
turn 3
- everyone else plays their third land (they have 3)
- you drop the scope, pop it and search for 3 lands, play a basic land, and you've got 6 mana total, 4 mana untapped.
Similarly
T1
- everyone plays 1 land (1 land)
- you play a land, tap it to play a borderpost
T2
- ditto (2 lands)
- you play a land (1 land)
T3
- ditto (3 lands)
- you play a basic (2 for you), either cast the scope now or wait for next turn
T4
- ditto (4 lands)
- pop the scope.
I wish my 4/4s with haste and first strike that acted as Goblin Warchiefs were better and didn't die to instants and overshadowed all other 4 drops in the format. And that they had evasion too, and some way to dodge wrath effects.
There is too many stupid things that can happen once card like Training Ground drops early. It's just a one card? Well, Mind Over Matter in Azami was one card, and she have black.
Yeah. It's gonna be next gen "Oh great, she is on the table. I'm not playing."
Sydri should spawn some really crazy (and annoying) decks to play against. Tons of artifact stuff in esper colors like Memnarch, Tezzeret, and Baleful Strix to name a few.
Not sure how good scope is. Has to be good in the right deck.

Huh? I don't get it. training grounds doesn't affect any of the spoiled cards.
sydri will be like Teysa - a reasonable general, who has one combo that defines whether the deck is casual or competitive. In Teysa's case, darkest hour, in Sydri's case, mycosynth lattice.
She's an Artificer, not a Wizard.
But that never stopped Stoneforge Mystic (Kor Artificer) from linking arms with her.
She's also a Human, which means Cavern of Souls naming Human also hits Bob (Human Wizard) and Snapcaster Mage (Human Wizard)!

Why not dream big and run lands like Azorius Chancery and others...
The card also plays extremely well with Lotus Vale or other sac land for certain effects things.
Feel free to bid on my cards here!

some of these may require the ability to turn things into artifacts. Easier than it sounds.
Use on artifacts that want to die.
Use with cards that want to interact with creatures.
Just a few thoughts. There is also creature denial through making it damn near impossible to play creatures! For example, you'd run Portculis, Lethal Vapors, Spreading Plague, Tainted Aether , Aether Barrier, Aether storm, and Invoke Prejudice.
You could turn your opponent's land into artifacts, and then use her to turn the artifacts into creatures.(that's pretty mean though.)
