I know that people are going to jump all over me when I say this, but this is creature power-creep at its finest. We have a crappy dual lands cycle, almost no good enchantments (even though it is an enchantment block!), barely any good instants or sorceries, and no good artifacts (other than the god weapons). And what do we have for creatures? Stuff like Underworld Cerebrus, this, and Fleecemane Lion.
This is exactly correct. Wizards is basically taking the huge segment of their playerbase that enjoys interactions beyond "turn big dudes sideways" and telling them to get lost. It gets worse and worse every year.

Well, the whining does. For some reason, this "huge segment" of about five people don't ever actually get lost, they just get more and more passive-aggressive.
This card kind of reminds me of Olivia Voldaren in that if you untap with it you're in an extremely commanding position. I love this card and BG is looking insane for this season's T2.
So this might be played as a 6-drop as a Golgari aetherling equivalent, right?
Not close to as resilient as Aetherling (doesn't dodge sweepers or suddenly unfavorable combat) nor does it have the unblockability. It also doesn't do as much damage (Aetherling can pump up to 8). That said, it dodges most removal even without the hexproof ability, scrys for you, and can deathtouch anything that it can't outright kill in combat.
It's really a stretch to compare two cards that are this different.

Trolljutai, YOLOghan, Swagumgar, Bromoka, and Derptarka, the Elder Dragons.
Yeah this card looks super great and fun to play with, I would say a design home run.
The people complaining about power creep is just nonsense- Sure he is stronger than most 4 drop creatures 10 yrs ago- but if you made him too much worse, he wouldn't be playable, and we would all miss out on this great card in Standard mtg.
Most creatures get hit by targeted removal before they see a combat damage step, and this guy would be pretty lackluster if he were just a 6 drop with permanent hexproof- so its still vulnerable enough to removal, add that to the fact that to keep it having hexproof, you need to keep 2 mana up- which is not always the easiest to come up with, and the opponent can always catch you with a 2nd instant speed removal when you don't have another 2 mana. It also has no form of evasion so it isn't like it can't be dealt with in some sort of fashion by any deck.
This card seems perfect power level, and involves more strategy than turning your dudes sidewise (on a direct level- scry, and subtle level- leaving mana up) without having to have an etb ability and still being powerful.
Could Golgari Rock be a thing? I mean it has a strong suit of removal, resilient creatures, and card advantage spells. I think I want to put together a list.
Seems very strong, though I kind of wish that hexproof were a forced block instead. But it's still a nice design. Hopefully Lure or a card like it will be somewhere in the block.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
Most of people on salvation will hype the biggest turd just because "muh flavour", "edh" and "it fits into my casual deck". Thats a fact.

I fear I won't have much time to play Magic these days.
I get to watch worlds develop around me.
I get to watch great leaders, terrible oppressors, and trend setters rise and fall.
Limited, Standard, Modern, everything is a different playing field I feel I can observe, but will not actually touch.
I look forward to the stories I will hear.
And more so to the ones I will watch unfold first hand.
Isn't the unknown exciting?
I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.
Is that the "snake-gorgon-on-a-skull-throne" art then?
I'm a big fan of gorgons in general so I'll probably try and get them regardless of playability.
yes, thats the one. Turned out to be the lamest mythic up to now, which saddens me a lot. Daxos, Anax & Trophywife are good legends at rare, I dont get why a black mythic legend at that high cmc has to be so much worse.

The reaper feels like it could end up like Deadbridge Goliath. Good in limited, but outclassed in Standard. We'll see.
And flavorwise, I don't approve of needing to pay for deathtouch. All gorgons should have some passive kill ability.
The difference being that the Gorgan has protection and the ability to stack your deck...until it hits the GY, the Goliath is just a 5/5 vanilla that gets chumped all day. This guy serves the beat-stick function, but can also net you cards you need. You can also look at it effectively giving all of your removal scry......and scry stacks...so the more you have in play, the better it gets. I could be wrong, but deck manipulation in GB aggro that activates merely by playing like an aggro deck seems decent.

It is mythic because it has a board wipe ability that leaves you with a 7/9 creature.
The mythics in Theros are all pretty decent.

Honestly I think it'll come down to which side has the better Heroic triggers, and so far Bant is looking better.

It's like some folks here just lose their minds that others might be excited for cards that are bad in standard.
(This card is actually pretty cool for EDH, tho; scry is useful and lots of things will die in a four player board)

Wait, Erhnam Djinn has a drawback? and isn't even a 5/5 for 4? (which come with upsides since rumbling slum)
