I kinda wanna derp the field with a wrath after having this out and a darksteel plate-ed flamespeaker shaman (or whatever the card is that gets +2/+0 whenever you scry). Obviously edh. And no I will probably never actually do so.
Side note: yay! Gorgons!
No angels tho I hope there's more dragons coming be cool to get a devotion dragon for red.
Why is this set doing a better job of Multicolor than RtR did?
THIS is the kind of power you're supposed to get with Multicolor cards, that's the whole point - harder to cast but generally better cards.
Must be because we're gonna lose the M13 duals and the new ones won't be quite as good.
The reason that multicolor cards here are more powerful than in RtR, the multicolor block, is actually exactly what you said - they're harder to cast but generally better cards.
RtR had at least two levels of color-fixing: gates and dual lands. In addition, Gatecrash added the land Aura that adds mana or any color, and Green in RtR had mana fixing/mana ramping from the defender that tapped for 1 of any color per defender you control. Because of this, in RtR (Limited at least) you never really had to worry about getting the right color mana in a 2 color deck; it was only really hard at 3 color or more. Also, there were a lot more multicolor cards; putting together multicolor and hybrid cards, 1/3 of all of RtR was multicolor cards. Because of this, you had a large selection of multicolor stuff, and you had the mana fixing to never really have to worry about having trouble getting the right color of mana; therefore, the multicolor cards were easy to get, and so they couldn't all be really powerful.
Theros, on the other hand, is a dedicated monocolor block, where multicolor is a weaker mechanic because it does not help your devotion as much and because there is not nearly as much color fixing (so far as we know) as RtR had. Therefore, hitting multiple colors of mana is tougher, and depending on how much reliable sources of devotion there are (# of them in Limited, and power of them in Standard), multicolor stuff may be weaker overall because they have a harder time working with devotion (with the exception of busted hybrid cards like BTE and Boros Reckoner, who were already really good before devotion anyway). Therefore, multicolor can have a little more bang for its buck than in RtR, because it's harder to get the fixing and there's less fixing to go around in general.
Death triggers always prove a little dissapointing (Sangromancer and Harvester of Souls and friends have never really gotten anywhere. They had to reprint Falkenrath Noble as the two mana Blood Artist for the effect to see play), so this gals cool and all, but whether she'll pan out in the beefy environment remains to be seen.
I wonder if the creature size is a plant for the next block...a combat or big-small theme or something? Wilds of Muraganda? It seems conspicuous enough that they're probably doing it for a mechanical reason.

that's not what happened at all. kamahl stabbed phage, akroma, and some old lady and they became korona. then korona got stabbed by her "prophets" and kamahl got drunk with a mutant centaur

Pretty much this. There doesn't appear to be any Common cards that are Multicoloured in Theros, as it's not a theme of Theros and thus should not appear at Common. So, going on there being no Multicoloured Commons, one can expect the overall quality of the 2 coloured cards in Theros to be higher. It would not have been feasible to make all the Multicoloured cards in Return to Ravnica at a power level comparable to that of the Multicooloured cards in Theros without grossly destabilizing the block and likely doing irreparable ham to RtR's Limited format.
@Saruman: Not a bad point, but I think a 4/5 for 4 that can kill almost any creature in combat and dodges removal is part of the sell here. Not that the added abilities guarantee this seeing play, but the death trigger on top of the rest of the card definitely points it in that direction.
Geeze. Dodges doom blade and ultimate price, and any targeted removal if you keep 1G up? How the hell is Control supposed to deal with this creature? I guess hope you have Thoughtseize in hand and they have this guy in hand and luck out hitting it...
With the crappy array of counterspells we have, I think I might end up having to run 4 essence scatter main and forfeit a few percentage points in the control mirror. So many tough to deal with creatures you don't want on the battlefield who will kill you damn fast.
Other than contextual factors, I can't see what's the catch with this card. It sits reasonably on curve simply with its base stats, and then it has (reasonably costed activated and useful) abilities?
I can't believe anyone is excited about this card. It is absolutely unplayable. I wouldn't even play her in LIMITED. Easily the worst walker printed since the green elf one. Absolutely terrible.

The new black instant speed removal takes care of it, so does putrefy if they tap out, so you've got that at least. Lifebane can still rip it into exile too, which is good.

This set reminds me a lot about Invasion block. Pyre zombie, fires of yavimaya, multicolored cards, monstrosity = kicker.
I hope we're not getting FTK variant.
I'm also not sure if you noticed but UW which has been doing fairly well recently is running 2-3 essence scatter MD at the moment.
In an era of 30 creature decks, Essence Scatter does get better, but as far as a counterspell goes, it's not that good. Yes, SV, but UW is looking weaker than UB is right now due to lack of targeted removal. What are you going to run besides SV? Detention Sphere gets hit by your own Renounce the Guilds which is an OK spell I guess, but it is quite narrow (more narrow than Doom Blade / Ultimate Price). Detention Sphere is also an enchantment in an environment of 'enchantment matters' so we're likely to see more enchantment removal played, and Destructive Revelry is quite good, as is Naturalize.
I think we just need a good target removal in W and B that isn't so narrow and isn't so expensive. They won't though as Wizards is pretty adamant about creature creep and making removal (unfun) worse. I'd be pleasantly surprised if we get anything half decent.
1) Reasonably costed in ramp colors
2) 2 solid activated abilities that don't require
3) resilience with value even if it eats removal
4) me gusta... will probably see standard play in a midrange jund deck

There are 10 types of people in this world, those that understand binary and those that don't.
I fear I won't have much time to play Magic these days.
I get to watch worlds develop around me.
I get to watch great leaders, terrible oppressors, and trend setters rise and fall.
Limited, Standard, Modern, everything is a different playing field I feel I can observe, but will not actually touch.
I look forward to the stories I will hear.
And more so to the ones I will watch unfold first hand.
Isn't the unknown exciting?

Why does that name sounds like the one for the set I made sometime ago (Which happen to be a Combat Based set)...XD
Only at rare The commons and uncommons are normal sized... It's a really annoying way for them to do power creep. Just randomly punishes casual players who don't want to buy tons of rares.
This is how Wizards makes money.
