While I do hate digital art, I don't hate all digital art. Steve Argyle does neat looking pieces, and I like most of his cards. I just wish they'd allow a little more diversity within Magic art these days. Let people do pen and paper and ink and brush art again, it looks great.
In regards to me using Steve Argyle's work as my avatar here on the forums, the kiss he drew between Liliana and Chandra got a quick "no no no no no" response from Wizards, but I really am in favor of making the game more adult, more diverse, more inclusive, etc, so i kind of use it less as a "Isn't this sexy sexy? I like women women" and more of a "I support the idea of Magic being made for a slightly older audience, where we can acknowledge a little bit more of sex and sexuality than we can if we make the game for 12 year olds".
And in regards to Daxos, I am probably more excited about the card itself than any other card revealed so far (although I am liking this set quite a lot). I just miss old-style Magic art. I don't need it all to look that way, but I wish some of it could. Art like this is the exact opposite in terms of that pen-and-brush style.
To each their own. I'd prefer if Argyle would stop making Magic Art(I HATE his style) but, I do like this piece. Comes off as a Rogue/Cad/Swashbuckler feel.
This character is very awesome, and I especially like how he cannot be blocked by powerful creatures, giving him a form of evasion. Even better is his ability, which is very similar to that of nightveil specter, and I very much would like to have him for my blue/white deck, if he shall not be as expensive as a single as is Geist of Saint Traft, for example, who I definitely would have in my blue/white deck is he was not so expensive to purchase as a single.
To clarify the functioning of his triggered ability: when he exiles a card, his controller can spend mana of any color only to cast the spell that he exiled, and not any spell, I presume?
I do hope that I can open a copy of him from a booster at the prerelease, and if not, I shall trade for or purchase a copy of him, instead.

I would pay real money to have either Rebecca Guay do some of these cards (how perfect would she be for this set, right?) or just for Wizards to let their artists use pen and paper and ink and brush again. The rule that it all has to be digital art is just dumb.
Wait... there is actually a rule that they can't use physical media anymore and they have to do digital art? That just seems too farfetched. I mean I understand that they force everyone into this highly rendered style (which I personally can't stand), but requiring it to be digitally produced just seems... odd.

There's no rule (to the best of my knowledge). Terese Nielsen works almost exclusively traditionally.

Whoever said "digital art only" is wrong. I have been two a GP and an SCG open and talked to many artists. They still send regular 'ol art to WotC.
People who think the majority of Magic art is exclusively digital know NOTHING about art. A lot of artists work in traditional media, and many more only color digitally.
That's not so bad, as he'll be trading with most of them. Nobody ever plays 2/3 or 2/4 creatures in Constructed, (Kird Ape is the only one I can think of at all) you mostly just have to worry about first strike.
The real problem with him is many decks are going to have an awful lot of blanks. In addition to high-CC cards you can't cast yet, any land is a blank, any counterspell is a blank, any removal spells against a control deck are blanks.
So exiling a removal or counter spell from your opponents deck so they can't use it against you is bad? I'm so foolish. I figured that would be a good thing.
**** this site. I'd delete this account but that doesn't seem to be an option. The mods here are ******* useless ********s who ban people for simple ass normal words. **** them and **** this site.
Irrelevant. Daxos ability is equivalent to milling (ww/o GY shenanigans) and milling does not affect the card drawing of your opponent. You could as well mill a useless land, giving them a nice counterspell ~~
Daxos will mostly like see play in EDH and there the average CMC of almost all decks is 4+. a General with "Unblockeable" + life gain + Card Advantage can't be not good...

Except he dies to freaking everything. I know "dies to removal" is a beating the dead horse type of argument but I tried him out in my Geist of Saint Traft deck and he was not that good. It might be just my meta where there are plenty of tokens and weenies to get in his way. He is sorta like a bootleg Thada Adel... and I like her more since I can just steal sol rings all day.

To the people that say that a card needs to be a higher rarity because of Limited... I hate you guys so much. I present to you with this.
Making a voltron commander deck around him right now. I just need to find a way to give him hex proof so my friends grimgrin deck won't wreck daxos's face

At my pre-relase, I got Daxos. His use is very nice because of the mana clause, and I was able to take my opponents Fabled Hero and play it. When he attacks, he is very nice for taking other players stuff.
Are people still talking about this guy? I have yet to see anyone use him effectively and it seems like every time he's across the table i have an answer... Doom Blade, Shock, Magma Jet, Azorius Charm etc. He dodges nothing but fat blockers.
I understand the argument that cards don't stop seeing play just because of one perfect removal spell ("Vapour Snag says no" people are just wrong)
But when practically everything is a perfect removal spell you can kiss your playability goodbye. Geist this is not.
Lol, greeks used to fight ALL NAKED.

Try Lightning Greaves or Darksteel Plate. Being in white, Daxos has some good equipment tutoring cards at his disposal.

Feast and Famine is really good though because the untapped lands allow you to cast spells from Daxos.

P.S. I do agree that he seems decent in EDH.
