What a boring art. I wonder what the art description was. "A boringly shirtless man boringly swinging a boring sword with the most boring stance in the most boring background"
With Shock and Magma Jet in the format, I don't think this guy will see a lot of play.
People didn't suddenly stop playing creatures when Path to Exile was in standard, and that was a much better removal spell than shock. This guy will see play.

thank you +1. remember "Vapor snag say no."? /facepalm
LOL I guess snagging the top two cards with double strike would be fuuuuun.
I am seriously contemplating this guy as my next general. Boring art and all!

Looks fine. I bet if it was a Bikini Clad woman with a sword you'd be fawning over it.

Cool story bro.
My point was that he's a smaller creature with minor evasion, no immediate impact and has to connect for his ability to work. His lower P/T makes him susceptible to more removal, which is why I was thinking he may not see a lot of play; he can very easily be kept in check.
Just an opinion/guess. I'm probably wrong and he'll be a $30 rare.
Hmmmm... Please don't let this get expensive. Regardless, theros is turning out to be an original block. Have never seen a variant quite like this and really like it.
This is why I keep waffling on how much to buy! This set has me happier than I have been in awhile for a set release.

i think the truth is somewhere in the middle with this guy. hope youre wrong just because i dont want him being that high. Theros seems to be loading up on cool gimmicky stuff. broad range, but i think 7-15$ eventually. I know nothing though

For a guy with so many interesting abilities, it would befit him much better if the art looks more magic-y. And actually, I'm getting sick of all the unreasonable lack of cloths lately.
Any 2-power guy can kill him. He has no protection at all. He costs 3 mana. I don't see what's so particularly great about him.
That's not so bad, as he'll be trading with most of them. Nobody ever plays 2/3 or 2/4 creatures in Constructed, (Kird Ape is the only one I can think of at all) you mostly just have to worry about first strike.
The real problem with him is many decks are going to have an awful lot of blanks. In addition to high-CC cards you can't cast yet, any land is a blank, any counterspell is a blank, any removal spells against a control deck are blanks.
The only way I see this as playable (even though I love the power of the card), is if UW Tempo is a thing, with Thassa, Him, Lyev Skynight, Azorius Charm, and whatever else the block gives us. Part of me is just hoping that this doesn't happen because tempo decks have the most chance of becoming oppressive. (and luckily all 3 of those cards are 3 CMC so that lessons the chance) He's quite easy to get rid of though.
Greek we're some of the, or the most heavily armored soldiers of their time.
What the ****, Greeks did not fight half naked.
They did sometimes. The Spartans would fight COMPLETELY naked if they thought they were about to die. Also if you look on any ancient Greek pottery warriors are almost always depicted naked, so this is well within that tradition.
A) Being half-naked is appropriate for the setting.
B) If straight men and lesbians get half-naked women on card art, fair is fair.
C) Greek mythology block = probably not a good year for you, art-preferences-wise, I suspect.
Just a little good-natured teasing here, BTW
QFT
Except for some Terese Nielsen art (see Blessed Orator, Swords to Plowshares and her Gerrard drawings) it's hard to find sexy dudes on MtG card :sadbanana::p

Duuuuuuuuude,
I want more naked guys. I want more cards like Rakish Heir, loved that card! I want cards that counter our horrible sexualization of women with cards that appeal to women and gay men. Go diversity! Go sexy naked men! Yay!
I don't like the photoshopped look. It looks...just...ugh. It doesn't look like a fantasy illustration, instead it looks like an add for an action figure based on a movie. Too realistic, I guess. Uncanny valley? I like a more traditional pen and paper look....for those sexy hot shirtless men.
Seems like a good constructed card, I think there is a slight difference between this and Geist though. The ability on Geist is much more offensive, and can win games faster, whereas this seems more gimmicky. Also, Geist has hex proof, which is important to remember, and isn't totally blocked by things like wall of omens.
So how would this guy's ability in EDH work? Since normally if you tap a land for mana not in your commander's color identity it'll become colorless mana, does Daxos' ability here override that rule temporarily?
So, I've been contemplating this card for a few hours. And now I think I get it. Allow me to present a vorthosian possibility:
"Daxos never trains his body, tightens his armor, or sharpens his blade. He's mastered a new technique. When he strikes, he studies the armor, weapon, and technique of his opponents to such a degree, that by the time they feel the sting of his blow, they believe they are facing their very own attacks and expertise. Nothing filla Daxos with a higher sense of vigor than slaying enemies with their own weapons."
Would this be believable?

I fear I won't have much time to play Magic these days.
I get to watch worlds develop around me.
I get to watch great leaders, terrible oppressors, and trend setters rise and fall.
Limited, Standard, Modern, everything is a different playing field I feel I can observe, but will not actually touch.
I look forward to the stories I will hear.
And more so to the ones I will watch unfold first hand.
Isn't the unknown exciting?
If you have a geist of st. traft voltron deck and you are playing against newer people, you can replace him with this guy and you have a power downed version that is probably really fun to play.

Or ya know he could just be a Gish? Perhaps a Fighter/Spellthief build with a level or two of monk thrown in there to acquire some AC while being Shirtless.
Legendary Creature - Human Soldier
~ can't be blocked by creatures of power 3 or greater.
Whenever ~ deals combat damage to a player, exile the top card of that player's library. You gain life equal to that card's converted mana cost. Until the end of the turn, you may cast that card and you may spend mana as though it were mana of any color to cast it.

this plus a way to make it bigger and trample is not fair hahaha

It wouldn't involve that rule at all. Your still tapping the mana for the appropriate colors, you just spend them as if they were something else.

Check out the thread for my cube if you have the time, and tell me how terrible it is.
Generals meant to be drafted first in a single pack of 6 cards.
And here is the actual cube, meant to be drafted in 4 regular sized packs. (60 card decks)

Useless except against U and/or W EDH decks.

Seriously, though, this card is not as good as Geist, but it is still the replacement.
I look forward to playing with stupid cards like these....

If he was drawn in the style of Koth's courier but male, I'd love it. Koth's Courier looks like a Magic card. It looks illustrated, not photoshopped.
