Preventing life gain isnt very relevant in the current meta.
I really dont understand how you can say that... Um... are you playing the same standard that im playing in? The new black god shuts down or at least hurts the following:
I mean how many more cards do you want me to name here? The new black god's static ability is DISGUSTINGLY AWESOME for today's standard environment, and this WILL be going in my jund deck, at least as a sideboard card for SURE. Probably the god im most excited about
Erebos is good and will be playable in standard. Anyone who says he's not great is just simply wrong. Black devotion is easier to get than the other colors, he's a huge indestructible body, and pay life for cards.

I Play Esper And I Got To Say That This Planeswalker Is Aweful. I Like That Your Trying To Replace Nephalia Drownyard But Turn Three YoU Want Counters In Your Hand To Keep The BoarD In Your Favor. All This Planeswalker Gots Is The +2 Ability. The RestIs Aweful And The Ultimate Is The worst yet. Isnt A Win Condition At all
I like how the planeswalkers ultimate helps out its second ability, nephalia drownyard was used in u/b control lists she might see play in those.
Then again downyard was a land, a bit tougher to get rid of instead of a planes walker.
Maybe she'll just go under the radar?
Ashiok and Erebos are both very VERY good. Erebos will be an engine for mono black control, and ashiok pushes mill to the cusp of standard viability. Just watch standard evolve. it's *going* to happen.
drawing cards for life as an instant speed effect is *always* good, even at 2 for 1.
The walker reminds me of Drownyard but there are obvious tradeoffs. He can mill for free and a couple of other game-ending tricks but he's not a land (harder to remove) and sorcery speed (no charm shenanigans)
Well...
The walker is not DAT bad maybe. Ermmm.Against midrange is sounds pretty good if you exile any creature with it's first ability. You can steal a 5cmc bomb on the next turn. It will be a sideboard option I think. I want to use it on a WB deck just because it's cool, it's art is so freaking beautiful!
The single mana hate cards are... Why they printed in uncommon? I want removal for limited! What I will do with a green removal for green creatures? Or an inverted doom blade? WTF are this cards?
The god is really good. Repeatable card draw for 2 mana on a indestructible enchantment?
I don't understand the Ashiok bashing. Yeah he's a little durdly, but for 3 mana, seems like he could be fairly strong as long as the opponent is playing creatures.
If your opponent is playing creatures it's actually the opposite. He'll go down in flames. And fists. And swords.
He has neat art and I love the design, don't get me wrong, and they at least had the sense to give him a +2, but he looks like he's just going to be on the field durdling.
Rakdos aggro will probably use Erebos as a top end finisher. Draws cards, shuts down life gain, and it is a 5/7 indestructible for 4... what more could you want. The life gain hate is extremely relevant against Sphinx's Revelation, Archangel of Thine, Scavenging Ooze, etc. With things like Rakdos Shred-freak and Rakdos Cackler, the black devotion should be fairly easy. Hmmm.... I've got a deck brewing.
The planeswalker will be amazing in limited, and probably terrible everywhere else. This is an extremely niche planeswalker, that eats into Jace's space, and doesn't even do the job as well. Exiling is nice, but we have enough mind mage planeswalkers. Makes me wish they had reprinted Tamiyo over Jace this core set...
Anyways, the legendary creatures previewed today will both make fun EDH generals (though Erebos may only have a little while before she's banned). Overall, good day.

It is nigh-impossible for Ashiok to have any board impact on the turn he/she/it ETBs.
It is very dicey whether or not Ashiok can protect him/her/itself, as that ability totally relies on your opponent's deck.
Ashiok's ultimate is expensive and, again, has zero board impact.
Those are three pretty well-established strikes against any PW. I still love the design, here. Ashiok is a total "break me" card. But one of the hallmarks of a good "break me" card is that it, well... basically sucks, from a competitive standpoint. And this card does suck from that perspective.

yeah, Nephalia is much better. There are so many ways to remove a planeswalker. with so many creatures deck, control decks will have a hard time trying to protect Ashiok

Hmmm. I think Erebos might be pretty good in B/W Angel Post. Even if you never can hit his devotion in that deck his life lock on opponents while being able you to draw more cards is pretty good for that deck.
Just for the record, Ashiok is very likely based on Phobetor (Icelus) from Greek mythology. The god of nightmares, is the son of Nyx, and can appear in any guise. Seems likely.

Surprised this is the first mono-black reference we've seen with her when that's usually the deck that everyone goes to about how it's saved now. It might actually be true this time even since it's been missing good card draw more than anything else recently, and this is definitely good card draw. Also, Corrupt exists.
The murder king is so bad. I would have thought that was a nonlegendary uncommon creature. That card is some Legends or Kamigawa level of bad. Yuck.
Lolwut? That card is excellent, and would have easily been 4 of in BR Zombies when it was around.
Unless I'm crazy, most aggressive decks would LOVE the ability to nuke their own people to get in the last few points of damage.
Only got your opponent down to 4 life by turn 5? And now they're going to stabilize? Too bad.
Oh, wait! How about I just sac 2 dudes and win the game?
And even if they kill him, he STILL can easily come back and give you reach just by getting rid of one of your dudes. Imagine how amazing this card would have been in conjunction with Gravecrawler.
Ashioks ultimate is pretty much the only thing that will have any play in the competitive area. But it will only be used against control strategies and even then I'd prefer running a freaking divination over it.

I believe Erebos is male. They refer to Erebos with male pronouns. Also, Ashiok has me pondering. Xenagos is of course a shoe in for Standard, but I'm wondering if Ashiok hurts enough in the Control matchup to warrant SB spots. Then again there could be a U/B Aggro deck that uses Ashiok to combat bigger creatures. We will have to wait and see.
I suspect Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver won't see standard play outside of mill, because the high cmc of good creatures however this may prove to be a good card in eternal formats. In eternal it's -x is much more resonable and lets you slip creatures in without casting them so they cant be countered. Out of all the plainswalkers ever printed with a +2 ability only one has not seen significant standard play and all of the 3 cmc walkers ever printed have atleast seen fringe play. It will definitely retain value seeing as how it is a 3cmc walker with a +2 ability that mills. Every casyual player with a mill deck will want 4.
