hmm ashiok is too narrow for main play but good board card probably.
It's sort of a reverse domri rade, ie it's good against the domri rade decks with tons of creaetures where one + activation has a high chance of finding some goodies for a - activation on the next turn. Against most other decks it's just a crap mill planeswalker that needs too many turns to become active.
The hate cycle is fairly good except the blue one. Especially the kill mountain card can be pretty sweet given chained to the rocks will be a star in any boros based deck.
i love scrolling through here and seeing how many people say the PW is awful as if standard was the only format that mattered. i personally love the card. its got great synergy and flavor. ill be picking one up for edh. also the Erebos is my favorite god so far. has the most powerful abilities.
The flavor on the design for Erebos, God of the Dead is the most practical, simple, and elegant out of all the gods. No opponents gaining life? I gain wisdom and knowledge as long as I pay tribute to the god of the dead? I love it!

In articles they state, that Underworld has basically infinite gold, but no things to be happy about. Erebos trades one for another.
Erebos is a complete letdown - the worst of the gods cycle and EDH only card.
His lifegain ability is barely relevant and his Greed effect is horrible. Greed was never played in any format. I doubt many people in Standard will be able to use it more than once or twice in a game. 4 life for two cards is simply too much when you're already under attack, shocking yourself from lands and losing life from Thoughtseize.

Blue is going to be, by far, the hardest color to hit the 5 devotion on, as blue creatures begin and end with Aetherling. No more Snapcasters and Augurs to slam down early to activate the blue god, so basically you have a 3 mana enchantment that lets you scry 1 during your upkeep (Aetherling already has built in unblockable).
Glare of Heresy is fantastic, since it gets rid of many creatures and more importantly, detention sphere, white planeswalkers (elspeth, gideon), and also kills Heliod
And let's not forget Voice of Resurgence. The white card is very good. I like the cycle. Gainsay is probably the next best as it hits almost everything in Azorius Control which should be a good deck.

Black doesn't look easy to get proper devotion either and he is hardly worth it.
Best god is probably red given there are some actually playable cards in red that easily enable the devotion (BTE, ash zealot and boros reckoner mostly). After that blue god is alright since he is fairly decent even if not turned on but it might actually not be too hard to turn him on eventually with jace, detention sphere's, frostburn weird etc.
All gods seem mediocre as constructed cards though, the devotion mechanic is just such a win-more mechanic.

Gainsay cycle is nice addition, I really like these.
Ashiok feels very weak. Using +2 once (which does nothing if you didn't find a creature) gets him to 5 loyalty, which isn't enough IMO. 6 loyalty then I'd approve his -X (suicide skill). Ashiok's ultimate is also too slow.
Tymaret is ok for what he can do, very flavorful and supports GY synergies.
Erebos is weak and slow. Also I'd rather draw cards with like Underworld Connections. Preventing opponents gaining life isn't that great aswell..
I have a feeling his "No gain life" will become more relevant later in the block

In dunno, people wanting t3 walkers that take over a table by themselves are just really demanding. Something at the level of LotV will likely never be printed ever again. Get used to work for your value.
Also, she's really powerful in control v. control meta.

Underworld Connection is already a sideboard card mostly because it under performs vs. any kind of aggressive decks. Erebos is like a minor version of it.

funny how that hate cycle works. There is no really cheap and easy way to get rid of gods except for Heliod who is exiled by a two-mana spell.
And Thassa gets countered by a two-mana spell. Kind of a bummer that Chained to the Rocks comes together with something that gets rid of it, but probably should have been expected.
Hmm. I'm not sure what to think. I am an Esper and Grixis mage by heart. This planeswalker, in my meta, is potent. Stealing a threat of theirs on turn 5 for no mana seems nasty in a world with scry, but his +2 does not seem to protect him outside of just making his body bigger. I will have to see how he plays in my lists first.
Erebos is good. He makes their Sphinx a bad draw spell (to an extent), and makes Warleader's Helix a worse card. That alone makes me like how he plays. He just does not make a board impact, which is fine given we have enough black things to make those impacts.
Minotaur decks will definitely be a thing. I see Dark Boros decks trying their luck.
If any of them become creatures, Selesnya Charm does some work. Cyclonic Rift might start to see some more play too.
But only if they become creatures. Heliod gets exiled no matter what and he has the problem already that his activated ability costs 4 mana to put a 2/1 into play. Doesnt look good for Heliods playability unless there is another card that helps him.

I like that they made a Returned Planeswalker. I think they catched the flavor of loosing all purpose for the returned - what is he doing? Just trying to fill the void inside him. I think overall he is no supreme powerhouse, but could very well see some play. What encourages his playability by a lot is... Scry! Counters everything till Scry 3.

I get to watch worlds develop around me.
I get to watch great leaders, terrible oppressors, and trend setters rise and fall.
Limited, Standard, Modern, everything is a different playing field I feel I can observe, but will not actually touch.
I look forward to the stories I will hear.
