Hmmm, in trying to make the gods the focus on those playmats, they kind of lose their epicness because you can't really get a sense of scale for most of them. Especially Heliod.

Good to see they used the best depiction of Elspeth for something (the binder), but I wish it was a playmat - hell, I wish it was the actual card art. Deschamps is my dude, but he dropped the ball on Elspeth 3.

Yea in this iteration, it seems she's being depicted as some sort of teenage rebel. That's the vibe I'm feeling; not the mature, charismatic and powerful Joan of Arc type of lady I was expecting her to be.
Red should be burn, Goblins, Dragons, draw/discard, and Standard-unplayable 5CMC cards with insane, lengthy effects that take 10 minutes to figure out what they do and another 20 to actually make their effects work on the field.

From the perspective of a Simic player, the mat's mix of green and blue is really appealing.
Plus, the trees at the bottom really still help to indicate her astral divine status.
I've always been a fan of Nylea's art because her starry shadows really line up to make her look like a constellation, which I wish was more true of the other gods since it goes so well with the Greek theme.

Yes! Thank you for saying this. Something about Nylea's art always seemed especially Greek-mythology-appropriate to me, and while I hadn't thought about it very hard, I couldn't quite put my finger on it except that it had to do with her pose.
That's it exactly: the placement of the stars in the art, especially having bright ones at key points like her eye and the tip of her arrow, make it look like she's superimposed on a constellation that represents her in the same pose.
So dull and predictable. Why do we never get mats or sleeves or boxes with artwork NOT of Planeswalkers or the big "Chase" cards like Gods and Titans? How about cool artwork from spells, instants, sorcery, artifacts? Was so happy that we at least got the shocklands last set, but that was such a rarity. le sigh.
