Question: Do people think this would be better or worse if toughness was also linked to the instant and sorcery cards in graveyard. in other words, a */*
Chimera will see play in rogue decks I think. Young Pyromancer rogue for sure at least. Lots of abilities packed onto an uncommon though; evasion + pump + trample. On par with Unflinching Courage for the same CMC
You think a blue/red deck will have problems finding instants and sorceries?
The Yung Pyro likes this Chimera. A lot.
True story. Between Theros, M14, and RtR there are plenty of cheap instants and sorceries that fit with it. Its plenty powerful for the type of deck you intend to run with this guy. Just waiting on that cantrip.
[card=Dismal Failure]"Two magi could trade spells all day and never crown a victor.

I've been playtesting a U/R deck running Goblin Electromancer, Young Pyromancer, Guttersnipe, Purphoros, and a lot of burn, and this dude might just merit a slot or two. All I really need is a couple cheap scry spells to go with Magma Spray and the new duals.
U/R Tokens thru instants/sorcs Pyro/Master of Waves + God of Forge. try it!
Unless I'm missing something, this card is the absolute nuts. I can see this in some weird young pyromancer build in modern too although 3 isn't cheap for modern
Boy oh boy. So you fix delver-pike by giving a much more difficult
Casting cost but putting both effects on one boltable card. Leave mana up for Leaks which protect and make bigger. Sick.
Now, we need some izzet filter cards that either do damage or get you one of two piles of cards, either of which are gravy to just dumping cards in the gy.

Quicken fits the bill. At it's worst it's a cantrip. With this and young pyro... *whistles*
It's not the great 1 cmc spell, but it is decent enough for what you need.
I sorta likes that its toughness doesn't scale so if your GY blows up he doesn't die. Pretty cool creature! Haven't seen such a decent P/T creature in U/R without kicking u in the butt like Firestorm Hellkite

To the people that say that a card needs to be a higher rarity because of Limited... I hate you guys so much. I present to you with this.
Target Triton Fortune Hunter with as many cheap battle tricks as you canl, heroic procs and draws you a cards, Nivix Cyclops gets +3/+0 for each spell, then this gets a permanent +1/+0 for each. Sounds like a hilarious deck.
Was hopeful it'd play nice with Nivmagus Elemental, but then I realized that exiles the spell.

Trolljutai, YOLOghan, Swagumgar, Bromoka, and Derptarka, the Elder Dragons.
It is uncommon because most of the rarity is driven by complexity for new players and the appearance frequency in limited formats. Flavor also has to do with it. One of the many things Wizards does right. After all, you can get a playset of whatever for constructed.

the problem is that i'm not sure there are enough useful instants and sorceries which will be in the graveyard by turn 3 when you want this guy to come down. chances are that nivix cyclops is stronger in this slot since it has 4 toughness and doesn't depend on the right hand for it to have an impact. the thing with all these spell-slinger creatures (young pyromancer, nivix cyclops, the 2 gods that people want to play in these colors and the Master of Waves) all take up slots that should be for instants and sorceries. When it comes down to it, there might not be enough slots at 3 drop for this and cyclops and Thassa. I think the others will see more play tbh
Izzet have all the removal possible for taking this guys out before big damages on main strategy. I think Dryad Militant(burn spells are exiled even if they kill him) and Rest in Peace (UR don't have enchantment removal, well... we can counter it or something) are more dangerous.

Don't let the cmc fool you. This guy is a finisher in the proper deck, not a normal 3 drop. You could play Runechanter's Pike early too, but you used it to finish. He's much more attractive in an Izzet Blitz than a blue control.
I like this creature, but I dearly with that its power was based upon the number of sorceries and instants in all player's graveyards, not merely its controller's graveyard, since doing so essentially forces its controller to have a large amount of such cards in their deck in order to achieve this creature's full potential.

Blue/Red is just about the best combination for playing high count of instants/sorcs.
The same reason nobody uses Tarmogoyf in modern right?
This is no goyf. It takes a lot more work to give this 4 power than an equivalent goyf; comes down a turn later too, to boot. Basically no blue deck wants this when it can run clique.

I think that TwinSais is trying to draw a comparison to goyf in modern and this in standard. Since the power level is lower in standard, I believe it is a apt comparison.

Stop your words.....don't give them any ideas.

4x Kiln Fiend, 4x This, some Nivix Cyclops and Wee Dragonaunts and I got a fun budget deck done and I got tons of instant/sorceries to make it work
AWWW YEAAAH
Worse...An ooze or a Rest in Peace would instantly kill it like a Boneyard Wurm.
Almost like a...Blizzet

LOVE Master of Waves in it, goes really Nicely with Molten Birth too. So much silly fun!

It's also used to refer to magic. I'm guessing "Spell."
