So.... not that I'm complaining, but does anyone else feel like this supposedly mono-colored focused block is sporting quite a large number of multi-colored cards? I mean, I definitely like it, just seems a little much. I love my UR, RUG, WB, GU, and WUBRG decks, but the RTR block satisfied me enough. I appreciate having more than the 16 gold cards than the entire Innistrad block had Wizards, but you didn't have to do this just for me...
BLASPHEMY. This guy is certainly going to be working side-by-side with my cyclopic friends though. However, I still don't know how I'm going to replace the Think Twices and Artful Dodges and Flings in my Izzet Blitz deck....
All this time, and no one's noticed she can armor herself up with the Visions Chimerae? I know it's probably not on anyone's mind for Spike-compatible schemes, but...
(Yes, she. At least, the original Chimera--one of the spawn of Typhon and Echidna, and apparently used as a superweapon by some bellicose polis before being killed by Bellerophon/Chrysaor and Pegasos--was regarded as female, despite having a MALE lion's head.)
So this makes Steam Augury not as terrible as it used to be, right? They either fuel your Chimera or give you card advantage. It's still not great, but it's interesting that you can cast it during combat the turn after playing this guy.
Hmmm, so swing with this, then cast steam augury? Essentially get an additional card with your steam augury if they send a bunch of instants to the yard, I like it.
Are you seriously comparing this to Tarmogoyf? That's like comparing Jace TMS to Xenagos... Oh wait, people actually did that...
Yes, because obviously he said "This card is just like Goyf" and was not using Goyf as an example of powerful cards linked to the GY still seeing play despite ample access to GY hate in the format.
I just don't think this deck will ever work. It's full of small beaters that are dependent on you playing instants and/or sorceries. Not only does it need an aggressive curve, it also needs to achieve a seamless balance between spells and creatures because, let's face it, all the cards are crap unless you have both.
I'm not going to say this card will work, but there ARE instants and sorceries that create creatures and that was why a Bant delver tempo deck with a load of "creatures" worked. I highly doubt people will be able to play three colors and above with the land base we have, but it is still a possibility. I know this guy doesn't have hate, but I can see it do something similar to what Magnivore did back in the days with counter burn. Ooze is still a problem, but now that Cavern of Souls is rotating out, countering the ooze got much easier than before.
wait... its an uncommon? why does this uncommon feel more like a rare than most of the rares that've been spoiled?
Must be something in water on Theros.
Tou 3? Somebody totally isn't afraid of Swansong token and, as it was said, can trample through it. Also her power buff is permanent. Yeah, definitely like this Chimera.
I think he's referencing the fact that the card is being translated as Demonheart which A) doesn't sound blue/red and more blue/black and B) at 204 it doesn't fit the name and number crunch. Now if anyone wants to go back to the OP and re-title it SPELLheart Chimera, then there may be less confusion.

but still, he could see MODERN play. Flample is very, very strong. Never underestimate it. Run him as a 3-of finisher/mid-curve beater, and remember that you're in the color of counterspells! Removal coming your way? Just say no. In standard, the Searing Spear retread could be a pain, but just play around it, and be ready with a counterspell if you need to.
Negate is a card. Bring it in from the board if you're up against midrange or other decks loaded with removal.
It boosts devotion to blue AND red. It's cheap, so it's a cinch to leave mana open for counterspells and removal on your opponent's turn. Spellslinging should be viable, especially with the scry spells and card draw in this set. I don't think we've seen the last of Grixis or America Control. If they give us Preordain, I'll be dancing in the streets.
I still can't believe this is an uncommon. I share the majority's opinion: this could have just as easily been a rare. And I love how this amazing card will be more affordable because of this! Thanks, Wizards. You're finally showing Izzet some love after the letdown of RTR block.

That. That's a good start.

Its like they thought that Mizzium Cyclops was lonely and decided to give him a buddy.

Spellheart Chimera? That could work.
—Lim-Dûl, the Necromancer
Two drop: Young Pyromancer
Three drop: Chimera
Four drop: Fluxmage
Add in Barrage of Expendables for reach, Lightning Strike, Magma Jet, Mizzium Skin to protect him and that's the core of the deck. You could even throw in some white for Warleader's Helix and Boros Charm if you wanted but maybe two colors is best.

This guy is amazing for pyromancer though.
holy hell I love this card.
its everything I would have hoped to come from the chimeras, wacky UR spell shenanigans. now with extra goat heads.
