I'm pretty sure Reverent will require a god hand to be exceptionally good, and Gift will probably be a bit over costed for standard play, but you never know. Also, Gift may see some play in edh, especially decks like Zur, where it's exceptionally easy to get to.
I like both cards, but I don't think they are especially good in constructed.
Gift of Immortality can be good against deck without any form of removal, it's very mediocre against decks running burn and destroying removal, and is awful against decks running exiling or bouncing. Not only that, but the creature can get removed from the graveyard by Scavenging Ooze with the aura's trigger on the stack.
Reverent Hunter is better, but it just isn't as reliable as a trusty Loxodon Smiter. It can be big, but even when it is, it lacks evasion or any form of protection, and that just isn't worth the risk of having games where this card is just a Nessian Courser or a Gray Ogre.
You know that is pretty much true of all enchantments ever. Yet somehow they still see play.
As for the Hunter, the upside is just so damn huge for this. An Ogre is an Ogre is an Ogre, but this thing can be straight redonkuless. Not sure how much play it will see yet but mono colour looks like it will be a thing so maybe we should wait and see before we dismiss it, no?

If you're not casting BTE on turn 2 then you're doing it wrong.
Unless you happen to top deck BTE on turn three (and already planned on casting the hunter), you will probably never cast the hunter off of BTE.
Emissary is just not good on turns 3+.
Here are the little self-imposed guidelines I'm working with for the multiplayer decks I've been building:
• Must be cheap. Total price tag < $100, preferably < $50. Ideally ~$30. No one card greater than about ~$6
• Format: Modern (makes getting the cards somewhat easier for the play group, and almost all my cards are Modern-legal)
• Must be relatively interesting in 1:1 games. I don't need to win against Splinter Twin, but I should be able to play duels now and then
• Avoid instant-win combos; they only serve to make me target #1, and then the deck is worse than useless because I get killed first, every time
• Must have a funny name!
Gift of imortality, on the other hand... will probably see play, IMO. I can already see putting it on a geist of saint traft and riding it to victory.
Wow that's just gross :wow:.
Thank god that's out of standard.

If MTG is a part of your life, the formats are like relationships:
Standard/Block = The on-again, off-again holiday fling
Modern/Vintage/Legacy = Stable, homely. A ***** after absence/misreading
Limited/Sealed = Heart breaking free spirit
Commander/Cube = Agreeable, needy and expensive
Pauper/Peasant = Sweet, kind, practical, but shy and boring
Wow, Gift of immortality has strong enough synergy with ajani's chosen that they could very well see standard play together **assuming sufficient other support for enchantment control**
Gift of Immortality is pretty easy to play around. When the guy comes back, just kill it before end of turn triggers to stop the shenanigans. Pretty sure this is a $0.99 rare.

There's stuff that's hard enough to kill the first time that killing it AGAIN won't be so simple. It's in that interaction that it shines.

"Easy to play around", but spending resources to kill a creature twice is going to hurt if you have to do it more then once.

Revent Hunter is not that great. In good scenarios (t1 elven mystic, t2 kalonian tusker) his a 5/5 for 3. A bit better then Leatherback Baloth. In all other cases (including playing him after a wipe) his worse. He could be better (in mass elve decks) but that leaves you open to some huge blow outs. His good and will see tests in monogreen.
Gift is just great in hexproof decks. Like, rly strong layer of resilience !!

Yeah, but why waste a card that's good if the creature dies? This card does nothing on it's own. In Bant Hexproof in Standard for example you probably want to put a Armadillo Cloak 2.0 or something on the hexproof guy instead (not that that deck will be viable when Theros rotates in but...)
I have nothing against the card in general, I just don't think it's good enough to see serious constructed.
Gift of Immortality seems very nice with a lot of cards. Of course, you'll have to draw and play those cards, and then play Gift on them, hoping your opponent doesn't blow them out from under it.
I just can't shake the feeling that if I were to make a deck utilizing Gifts of Immortality -- outside of some sort of sick self-sacrificial combo deck -- I could always make a better deck by taking the Gifts out and replacing them with more threats.
Threats are always good.
I think nal2 has this card pegged.

But not in standard
Wow, that's just stupid good. I hated Geist in standard, now I have to hate it in modern, too.

Yeah, I was just going to post scenario 1 when I saw your post.
Scenario 2 doesn't work because BTE generates RG but your could still toss a Scavenging Ooze out. Or even Brushstrider for 13 power on the board.
(I don't expect it in Theros, because I'm not sure if there are elves in that setting.)
