wow a monstrous creature where the monstrous does not cost 7 or more....
good card. also when i kinda dont see why this creature is "monstrous" he looks like a lion/leonin and not a monster... so i kinda dont get the flavour.
Look up for Nemean lion. He was virtually unbeatable, Hercules had to defeat him by strangling the lion with his own demi-god hands, since swords, spears or similars were useless.

Would you like to read Commander stories? Check my latest stories, coming from Lorwyn and Innistrad: Ghoulcaller Gisa and Doran, The Siege Tower! If you like my writing, ask me to write something for your commander as well!
Its like the thread on the zombie king
Its a watchwolf with *reach*, the combined mana cost to go through the steps isn't whats important, its that your early aggro piece is scaling up. Thats what a certain kithkin I remember was all about

This can't be the Nemean Lion then, since you can't kill it in creature combat. Flavor fail.

The wedding is over. Now it's time for the honeymoon.
not gonna see play guys. a 3/3 body is a good deal for your mana, but nothing overwhelmingly good. you can respond to monstrous and kill him before any of those abilities take effect. that's a huge risk for your 5 mana, a potential nothing for it in fact.

Only if you are playing against black since red has no instants that deal 3 damage after rotation and Mizzium Mortars is a sorcery.

Yeah, if only he was in the same colours as a creature that turns every instant-speed removal your opponent plays in a 2-for-1 in your favour...
But that would just be too powerful, we don't want that!
I fear I won't have much time to play Magic these days.
I get to watch worlds develop around me.
I get to watch great leaders, terrible oppressors, and trend setters rise and fall.
Limited, Standard, Modern, everything is a different playing field I feel I can observe, but will not actually touch.
I look forward to the stories I will hear.
And more so to the ones I will watch unfold first hand.
Isn't the unknown exciting?
People dont like to play overcosted spells just like people played Ultimate Price or Victim of Night instead of [CARD]Murder
[/CARD] just because they were cheaper
it has the counter argument that you can make him monstrous in response to instant removal.
All that on top of him being a 3/3 for 2. Of course he will be played. "Decent" this card is far more than just decent.
Argument is weak because you can make him monstrous in response to removal....
well, yeah...
but monstrous costs 5 mana.... Doom Blade costs 2
if the guy playing black just keeps 2 mana open what will you do? keep 5?
of course, if he spends all his mana, you just make him monstrous and go for it.
He's a 4/4 vanilla that cannot be removed.
it's very relevant unless you're losing the race to a 5/5 flyer or they have a x/5 ready to block every turn.
Well, it's a very strong card, yes.
the best option for 2 mana slot? not sure.
He's up there and may be played, yes.
It's Fabio lion, minus the buzzard to the face. This guy is awesome, but dies fairly easy early game. Probably will see modern play. Issue is that there is a lot of 2 drops competing main deck. He'll, just run this guy. His value won't be over $10 cause this set will opened big time, and it takes 7 mana to get him at full strength.
Anyways to the last page of you can kill him with removal responses to this guy... You can kill hellkite with removal as well. You can kill Scavenging Ooze with removal. Even dark confidant can be slain by these said spells. The fact of the matter is cards such as these demand to be answered. This guy has the ability to close that window which is why I believe him to be very very strong.

watchcat all the way
This card is fantastic. Maybe not Thragtusk material, but still something I'm getting 4 of.
Regarding running a 4-color deck without fetchlands:
MostlyLost on Cockatrice.
Only if you are playing against black since red has no instants that deal 3 damage after rotation and Mizzium Mortars is a sorcery.
Annihilating Fire comes close.
annihilating fire
Standard: lol no
Modern: BG/x, UR/x, Burn, Merfolk, Zoo, Storm
Legacy: Shardless BUG, Delver (BUG, RUG, Grixis), Landstill, Depths Combo, Merfolk

Well if its the one i'm thinking of it took the son of a god to kill it.
Fleecemane Lion
Scavenging Ooze
That's a very strong 2cc slot for G/W.
Loxodon Smiter
Advent of the Wurm
The deck is building itself....
You don't even need Archangel of Thune or anything else to complement the rest of the creature package.
That's a strong deck.
Poor Boros....
