Interesting cards, all five are probably just not playable though not being too far off.
Bestow is an interesting mechanic but I had rather had it to be just a creature enchant instead which would lead to more interesting design options imo. Now bestowing is just better than casting the creature basically so bestow always has to be more expensive basically, I like it more when cards have multiple options which are good in different aspects so you get an actual interesting decision when playing them, now it's just bestow if you can (have mana and creature) otherwise use normally or perhaps save up.
Pretty much all in from these five suffer from the classic dies to removal too easily problem. It's just very rare that a creature without some garanteed or at least haste is playable at 4+ mana. Anthousa for example is cool but you can also just attack with a 8/8 trampler that grows to 16/16 next time without needing to target it..
Ember swallower would have been cool if the ability was just 1 or 2 mana cheaper so you could play it traditional armageddon style as top end in aggro.
Cheap Bestow creatures could really make Hexproof absolutely obnoxious (still!!!).
All of these cards seem swingy, but they all require a prodigious amount of mana.
That Demon is pretty awesome. Shadowborn Apostle for the win! Too bad they are sacrificed before the Demon cib.
All fog/wall effects are going to be amazing in Limited, since the swings are going to get huge with Monstrous, Heroic, and Bestow around. Sealed is going to be battlecruiser Magic at its swingiest.
I am going to get really annoyed playing Sealed in this format. Biggest bomb wins!
You don't call "dying to removal" if the removal is more expensive in resources than the creature. If you have to spend BG (Abrupt Decay), or W + basic land (PtE) to remove a 1G, that is not "dying to removal". Strictly speaking Goyf dies to removal, but actually your removal is dying to Goyf.
Monstrosity is going to be as bad as Level up for ccompetitive play. Even for all that mana i rather cast something else. Look at that overcosted mess! For just vanilla creatures!? I am afraid though of a mythic bestow card. It takes the stigma of auras away when your opponent targets the creature u want to enchant. I like it. Hopefully other colors get it.
2 2 drops and a 1 drop. I agree with him that monstrous will be pretty unplayable unless the format is super slow. RDW and Boros is still a thing so it will be though for these slow cards to see alot of play. It would have to be a cheaper monstrous creature.
The mass-LD monster works well with the mana-satyr. Turn 4 monster, turn 5 make it monstrous with your opponent set back massively while you attack with a 7/8. Not a bad start. Not too hard to pull off in limited.
That being said, all the spiled creatures have massive P/T relative to their mana cost. Seems hitting your land drops will be ever more important, else you'll find yourself dying fast.

My decks
Standard - RIP Cat
Modern - Death & Taxes
Commander - Mazirek, Trostani, Angry Omnath
Decidedly meh cards. Overcosted and uninteresting. Not even new set hype can make them good. Blech. I guess Disenchant is now premier removal in the format?
Bestow is going to b ridiculous trying to explain to new players
Big dumb crab is boring
Chroma failed to deliver once, so give it a new name and it doesn't still suck how?
7 mana triple Stone Rain that telegraphed for three turn. Yawn
Since they seem to be hellbent on making Standard as slow as possible th Green card might see some play
But overall, yuck. Terrible cards and mechanics. You have to be in full on 14 year old Justin Bieber levels of mindless devotion to WoTC to get excited about this junk. I guess on the upside it's another set I won't be spending $$ on. Another terrible, boring, uninspired Mark Rosewater set.
Literally all I see you do is insult Mark Rosewater's ability to design, and hate on the current state of the game. If you hate it so much, get off the forum and stop playing Magic.
As for the cards: I love them, myself. They're all interesting and the new mechanics make me happy. Devotion is Chroma it with more design space, and Bestow stops you from getting 2-for-1'd.
So Matt Tabak's explanation on Twitter that a bestow card does NOT get countered if the creature it's targeting dies means that the bestow cards can definitely be playable. If the creature they're targeting becomes an illegal target, they just enter play as a creature. The intro pack one is probably not quite at the power level needed to see constructed play, but hopefully at least one or two will be constructed-worthy.
The bestow cards should make standard pretty interesting. They make wraths a lot worse, since they'll become creatures when the creature they're enchanting dies. It also opens up some interesting decisions for the player who's playing the bestow cards. Do I play it as an aura so I can still have a board presence if they wrath, or am I more worried about having as many bodies as possible (to get past blockers, for instance)?

The cards are bad, the mechanics are cool. The design is good, the development is terrible. If you knocked off the mana costs of the cards and abilities 1-3 each, then these would actually be pretty exciting. Also, Bestow seems pretty easy to understand the basics of it, although the corner cases may be be nighmarish.
But mostly these are just overcosted as heck. Knock some mana off them and their abilities and I'd be excited.

The white bestow creature is not overcosted. It is at least a 4/4 creature with flying and first strike for 5 with attributes that will be favorable for the block. The black creature is pretty damn nice in multiplayer even without the ability. The red creature is a 4/5 creature for 4. Not world breaking, but it is still limited playable. the green creature is new player bait and is not inefficient. The blue one is grotesquely overcosted.
None of these are tier 1 cards, but in casual kitchen table gameplay, I'd consider the white, black, and green ones at least decent.
Level up were almost all 1-2 drops. There were only 2 that even had CMC 4.
Their level ups were and efficient. 4 mana for a flying 3/3 merfolk is not too bad when it leads to becoming a lord. Student of warfare was aggressively coated as well plus the green elf for mana. The dragon lord was decent. But aside from those the mechanic was Dawes in that u could only level up on your turn. The leveling cost way to much and sometimes the in between levels gave u nothing but a p/t boost.
While monstrosity can be done in instant speed, the mana dump is just too much. You are dumping 14 mana for a rather bland effect. I understand it can be spread through another turn but nothing is more demoralizing that u spent all that time and mana only for it to die or get bounced. That is why level up creatures were crap unless they benefited immediately upon leveling.

Amazingly enough, if you knocked 1-3 mana off every card in Magic they would be better. Thet would also be better with flash. Thankfully, people like you aren't in charge of card design or development or the games would be over in 3 turns and Magic would have died years ago because it would be terrible to actually play.

I am with you on this, the faster the game is the worse off it is. In Friday night events I barely remember the matches that took less than fifteen minutes to win or lose. But the matches where we played for 30 minutes for the first round in a match are the ones that really stick with you. It's like with food, if it is supposed to be good then it must be savored.

Well yeh. But the guy you are quoting could see his perfect cards spoilt and he will still complain. Look at his post history. He is one of that collection of "magic sucks now" guys. A few got banned recently but he is still around for now.
Nice to hear that, but at the same time it is sad to know that people want to be so negative.
5 cards spoiled end of the world worst set ever i hate you wotc stop ruining the game omgomgomg
that said while im big on intro pack rares and rares in general not having to be garbage... these are intro pack rares... theyre not going to make things as good as deathrite shaman the intro pack rare.
i like the chroma update because it can fluctuate promoting reasons to interact wiht the board rather than just a one time effect
anyway omg omg this set sucks im canceling my preorder maro can die in a fire abolish the reserved list this is edh garbage
Anyone else think bestow is a really cool mechanic?

As much as I'm against the OTT view that this card is going to solo tournaments, cure cancer and make Susan Boyle attractive I'm not really a fan of the opposing camp who think it slaughters puppies and sired Justin Bieber.

Why would magic be dead if Wizards stopped adding unnecessary mana costs to bad cards? Wouldn't the world be a better place if almost every card was standard playable? I honestly cannot think of a reason why that would be bad.

The mana cost of spells has nothing to do with the speed of the game. In a match of modern where my deck has 1 card that costs 3 and everything else is two or less against a deck that capped out at 3, we nearly went to time. And that's typical.
The only reason why cheep cards lead to fast games is that Wizards insists on making the boring cards competitively priced these days. Make the interesting ones playable and we'll actually have some fun.
That's a relatively undercosted creature for red to have. The Monstrous ability seems a little irrelevant but it's not typical for red to get a 4/5 for 4.
No kidding! It's not even legendary and doesn't have a single drawback.
WTF WOTC? What's next, a 4/1 for W? Stop with this obscene and pointless power creep.

No red deck wants that card, so they could have mad it a 10/10 for 4, and still that card might not see huge amounts of play. A red 4 drop needs to have haste or otherwise impact the board that turn. Without it, no mono red deck will want that card.

Power creep will happen even faster. The last time WotC tried this, we got Urza's Saga. Standard was full of broken combos, and tons of cards had to be banned. One or two deck will likely be overlooked, because there will be way too many different interactions to test out. Instead, not everything is a homerun, but we have an extremely diverse Standard that allows for brewing.

Because the game would become less of a challenge. The other formats could suffer from the sudden influx of fast paced standard cards. The Developers risk running out of good ideas and are less likely to experiment. And/or not every new card is made for standard but rather is meant to be reprinted for the sake of other formats.

That would be quite cool if it was some sort of wall.
Like 1W 0/4 wall / can't attack
2W bestow - enchanted creature can't attack.
I think thematically they want the creature enchantment and the creature to be linked like in bloodrush.
All of these cards seem swingy, but they all require a prodigious amount of mana.

Kargan Dragonlord was a RDW staple, Joraga Treespeaker saw a decent amount of play in green ramp decks (and is a cube staple) and Coralhelm Commander saw a lot of play when merfolk was a deck.
