I was hoping for reprints of cards that would actually be more... Idk. On theme. Last Breath and Divine Verdict... Why? Seems a little odd. I hope each God gets a spell with artwork of them casting it on it.
I agree. Last Breath should have been printed in Innistrad block. Divine Verdict maybe in ISD block or a core set as well. "Divine Verdict" seems to imply there's a right and wrong side, whereas the Greek-based gods aren't exactly good or evil. Additionally Polis Crusher misses the mark for me in that it seems so very Gruul it could have easily been a plant for Theros block in RTR(minus Monstrosity).
To be fair there are things like Underworld Cerberus and other major flavor wins.. I hope we haven't exhausted the supply of sweet flavor cards at 108/249! (probably haven't)
As for constructed it looks like red will be the big winner is terms of removal. Magma Jet, Thunder Strike and the yet-to-be-spoiled magma burn spell art, but we shall see...

I believe MaRo stated that creature removal was slowing down a bit just for this block to allow more players to cast their Bestow creatures enchanting creatures more often in Limited. Auras often result in a 2-for-1 courtesy of removal, so Bestow combined with slower / worse removal for block means you'll have a chance to enjoy your Auras more often.
Well, then I'm glad I'll be in Afghanistan for most of this block
So they make these awesome god cards that are the focus of the set and then they make a ton of stuff that counters/exiles them?
I'm curious as to what you would rather have them do? There needs to be something that can get rid of, or stop them in block. Letting the gods be difficult to remove in any color wouldn't be fun for a mono-theme. Not having these things would make them put the resources into Huey or M15 when RTR cycles out.
Agreed, efficient removal is being made rarer, not ceasing to exist. It only really impacts Limited (and Pauper, I guess, but Pauper is well-provided enough with removal anyway).

I think you'd better find a source for this, because people are already quoting it, and I think you're in danger of creating a new urban legend about things Maro supposedly said. I can't find anywhere that he said what you're paraphrasing here, though I CAN find a post where he said they wanted to slow down the draft environment a bit to allow players time to use Bestow and Monstrosity. Slowing down the draft environment is often the opposite of "creature removal slowing down".
I think Divine Verdict and Last Breath are just examples of some of the second- and third-tier Limited removal that all sets have, not evidence that they aren't printing any first-tier removal.
I was expecting something like last breath because of VoR, it makes sense for standard
However, Annul I didn't see it coming, it's just too strong in a set where half the good cards seem to be enchantments.
I don't see red being able to deal with enemy gods yet, neither black cause they cant deal with indestructible
Ah yes, a third card in Theros that fights enchantments while we're still waiting for our first card that supports them...
I'll admit that this is kind of puzzling, but again, we have less than half the set (although we also have most of the rares and you'd expect some kind of rare pro-enchantment card there). Still, for a set touted as being all about enchantments, what we've seen so far has been all about other things, plus killing enchantments.
But come on, Annul is not nearly the apocalyptic enchantment slayer people are making it out to be. It's considerably worse in this format than Steel Sabotage was in Scars block, and I don't recall that breaking any formats.

When will BUG or UWR be the top best decks? It's always jund/naya vs esper!
EDIT: I forgot infect made BUG awesome, but what about UWR? How many UWR creatures are out there?
Annul pleases me. I was getting kind of annoyed looking at the spoiler as it stands right now as there wasn't really much I was excited about, but this unassuming little common has made me a lot happier. I hope it's not just someone trolling and it's actually in the set.

Right now R/G has a lot of fun ahead of them, it's UWB's job to take that fun away, and then lecture them about how to have fun lol.

I know
Requiring players to think about what kind of removal/counter they are going to play and which goes into the sideboard is such a chore
Why not just print a 5 colour hybrid spell for 1 CC that reads "exile target creature" or how about 1 "exile target permanent"?!
I mean is it THAT hard Wizards?!!?
