Wow, creature power creep meets removal power nerf is going to make for a real boring game...
I believe MaRo stated that creature removal was slowing down a bit just for this block to allow more players to cast their Bestow creatures enchanting creatures more often in Limited. Auras often result in a 2-for-1 courtesy of removal, so Bestow combined with slower / worse removal for block means you'll have a chance to enjoy your Auras more often.

If bestow ignores the 2-for-1 even from the stack like they're telling us, this isn't a real reason.
Sorry, can we get a bit more information on the source here? What is this from? I don't recognize this publication from this little snippet. As (I think) the only spoiler editor awake right now, I'd like at least some indication I'm looking at something reliable before I just go ahead and add these.
A bestowed Aura becomes a creature when it's "host" disappears. So no 2-for-1's that easily.
Understood, but my point was that Bestow came about for the same reason that creature removal was scaled back a bit: To make Auras more relevant. Also, it worked well, since you'd have more chances to see and use your Bestow cards as Auras.
Of course, there are non-Bestow Auras in the block, and likely quite a lot of them, and this is the Limited format where they'll actually have a chance to really shine.
Blue mages got Annul back in a set where almost everything good spoiled so far has either the Enchantment or Artifact type or both. They are hereby banned from complaining about being hated on by Wizards for at least 3 minutes and 47 seconds.

Why not try to make a stodgy last breath cycle at common instead of a hard counter for 1 mana for the set's main theme?
Exile target (creature with pow <= 2 / spell with cmc <= 2 / creature with cmc <= 2 / creature with tough <= 2 / artifact or enchantment with cmc <=2) and they gain 4 life for WUBRG respectively. Boring design but hey it's at common and you can create some tension in limited
Anyway, Annul at common in this set is a bit silly, I'd like to believe that they wouldn't have hard counters so imbalanced to the set's main theme... at least in MRD block the artifacts that needed to be countered costed 0 or 2 so a 1 mana counterspell at common could stop the rot, but here with the expensive enchantments (5+ mana) that r&d is pushing for this set, a 1 mana hard counter is a bit silly tbh. Not saying that ench creatures will run riot, but sheesh give them a chance for a few months? Or is there something that FFL has forseen going into the rest of the block and is giving us the tools now so that we're ready for D-Day?
Annul was a common in Mirrodin though, so who knows. Enchantments are not as big a part of this set as artifacts were in MIrrodin.
To people complaining, as usual, about the quality of the removal... if those are actually being reprinted, they're fine Limited common removal spells that will see a ton of play in that environment. They're not really for Standard, though maybe Last Breath is.

On average, Magic players are worse at new card evaluation than almost every other skill, except perhaps sideboarding.

And "making removal weaker to make our new mechanic shine" was listed as one of AVR mistakes in state of design article from that year. Some people never learn?
Although don't know how it happened that removal is intended to be weaker, there were some talks about making enchantment removal weaker, and Annul is here.
I was hoping for reprints of cards that would actually be more... Idk. On theme. Last Breath and Divine Verdict... Why? Seems a little odd. I hope each God gets a spell with artwork of them casting it on it.

I get the Last Breath complaint, but how is Divine Verdict NOT on theme? It's the judgment of a god!

Last Breath and Divine Verdict are perfectly fine limited removal.
They should have printed a variant of Gainsay for U.

Only in block. In Std M14+RtR prevents all fun to be had from monstrosity, devotion and heroic.
